ROAD TO NOWHERE

Brazilian singer-songwriter Roge reimagines Talking Heads' 'Road to Nowhere' as a swaying samba-soul anthem, the first glimpse of BBE's upcoming Naive Melodies tribute. Now based in Los Angeles, Roge has long been a standard-bearer for Rio's samba-rock vanguard, and here he trades the original's quirky tension for earthy guitars, syncopated percussion and smoky, saudade-soaked vocals. Produced by Tommy Brenneck, the track carries the raw warmth of 70s MPB, shot through with existential overtones that stay true to David Byrne's lyric. Where Talking Heads looked toward uncertainty with irony, Roge reframes it with grace, swing and rhythmic uplift. It's a bold opener that sets the tone for a project dedicated to refracting the band's catalogue through global Black traditions - samba, funk, dub and beyond.
