There is a new name on Cargo Edition, but by no means an unknown one. As a DJ Markus Schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the Berlin Club scene. Markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo EPs and collaborations with Tom Clark on Highgrade Records and Opossum Recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. And now for his first EP on Cargo Edition, Markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. Drippin is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of Sean Andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. In contrast Flippin gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of less is more. As a perfect ending Restart surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. A truly versatile EP from a truly versatile producer.
