B2 Recordings delivers its fifth release this April, entitled ‘Players Paradise’ and coming courtesy of Greek producer Lex. Athens, Greece based producer and DJ Alex Andrikopoulos aka Lex has been a key figure in the city's underground electronic music scene, founding the now defunct Radical Soundz record store, running numerous events in the country and also the imprint Quantinzed Music. Here we see him deliver his latest work under his Lex guise via Bengoa's hi-rising B2 Recordings. Title-cut ‘Players Paradise’ leads, a ten minute journey through popping organic percussion, snaking funk-infused bass lines and an amalgamation of bright piano chords, wandering resonant leads and cinematic strings. Following is ‘Just Realised’, embracing a similarly organic aesthetic via swinging natural drums, a walking jazz-tinged bass line and intricately intertwined, keys, strings and synth licks throughout. ‘In Your Eyes I Never Tried’ then rounds things out, stripping things back rhythmically to shuffled, off-kilter drums while sharp piano melodies, bright strings, vocal chants and choppy sub bass notes wander amongst the bumpy groove.[info sheet from distr.]
