My Favorite Things was one of John Coltrane's bestselling LPs ever. This landmark jazz date made in 1960 was recorded in less than three days, during several marathon sessions that produced still more music that would later be issued on subsequent albums: Coltrane Plays the Blues, Coltrane's Sound, and Coltrane Legacy. "My Favorite Things", the title tune, belongs to Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II's play The Sound of Music. Prior to Coltrane's reading it had already been recorded in a jazz setting by Benny Goodman. However, it was John Coltrane who brought the song to the attention of the jazz world with the reading contained here, recorded on October 21, 1960.
