After last Autumn’s ‘Knowledge EP’, Héctor Oaks returns to KEY Vinyl with four more solid dancefloor fillers of the kind we’re starting to expect from the Berlin-based upstart. Now several records deep and with his fourth Berghain set firmly behind him, these days his sound is about as honed and gratifying as skills from the booth. And ‘Kepler 186f’ is the proof. On the A-side “Dissolve” sets its sinews to march on this taut, tough and punchy number. “Radial Clicles” then reins in the muscle a bit in favour of a more skulking, spectral slow-build. Meanwhile on the B-side, “Stone Storage” sends cool cymbals and crunchy hats on a sinuous, calculated romp. Leaving “Avoid Reality” to close in noisy, bombastic fashion. But watch out—this one’s a bit of a tease.
