The Nuremberg duo Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider are already widely respected around the world for blending progressive electronica with blues, jazz, soul, latin and dub elements. But now they have absorbed contemporary folk-rock arrangements and classic songwriting into their deluxe musical tapestry. ‘Same Sun’ is a gorgeous fusion of acoustic and electronic textures, a marriage of organic folk melody and futuristic studio sounds. It features a guest vocal by Boozoo Bajou’s most exciting new discovery, the young British singer-songwriter Rumer, whose voice was described by BBC London as coming “straight out of Laurel Canyon”. Wrapped in luxurious electronica, Rumer’s haunting voice on ‘Same Sun’ recalls the ghostly beauty of Karen Carpenter, the golden glow of Sade and the fairy-tale magic of Goldfrapp. The four wildly varied remixes on the 12-inch take ‘Same Sun’ on an epic journey from sparkling dancefloor celebration to moody dubstep deconstruction. Norway’s royal ruler of psychedelic disco, Prins Thomas, expands the original into two super-sized transformations: first with 12 minutes of bliss-filled beats and dreamy vocals on the mighty ‘Diskomiks’, then a further 10 minutes of throbbing acid basslines and trippy sound effects on the hypnotic ‘Karaoke Versjon’. DJ and remixer Andy Votel, of Twisted Nerve label fame, brings a more 21st century rock’n’roll feel to his ‘Music Minus Music Mix’ with mashed-up guitars, booming breakbeats and backwards vocal samples. And Germany’s underground techno minimalist Quantec strips ‘Same Sun’ down to a powerful dub symphony, full of dark shadows and spaced-out reverb.
