On January 24th 2011, LCD Soundsystem will be releasing their 'London Sessions' through dfa/parlophone records on cd/dfa vinyl. ‘London Sessions’ is an unique john peel session style 9 track encapsulation of one of today's most acclaimed acts in perhaps their rawest and most original recordings to date.
The session itself was recorded in one day at the pool/miloco studios in south London on June 29th 2010; the week following their triumphant Glastonbury 2010 performance. Fans of LCD Soundsystem will know that radio sessions are something that have never been a staple of the band’s career thus far because of the belief in the necessity to maintain the highest quality of all sonic recordings released into the ether.
The set, which spans the breadth of their career to date, perfectly captures the intuitive live evolvement of LCD as a band. Notably, nothing is replicated with computers. Instead, everything is recreated in real time; creating a tougher, looser and less clinical performance. These sessions feature tracks from all of their studio albums to date, as well as long lost b-side classic 'yr city's a sucker'; a must for any fan of the band. The tracks were subsequently mixed by James Murphy in NYC at dfa’s plantain studio & mastered by his longtime cohort Bob Weston in Chicago.
‘London Sessions’ will be released as a standalone album set on iTunes/CD & vinyl as well as being a part of a special deluxe repack of their massively acclaimed third studio album 'This Is Happening'. Released earlier this year, it forms the perfect companion piece to what has become one of 2010’s most loved albums. The deluxe edition also includes the surreal video directed by James Murphy of their cover of Alan Vega's 'Bye Bye Bayou', seminal dance act Paperclip People’s 'Throw', and their overnight internet sensation video for 'Drunk Girls' directed by Spike Jonze & James, which in true LCD fashion, was made in a weekend with friends, no budget, treatment or script. Just chaos.
Since the release of ‘This Is Happening’, the speculation has continued to build that this is their final album and the prelude to the end! Anyone who witnessed their sold out April tour as well as this summer’s triumphant festival headline shows at 02 Wireless, Electric Picnic, Reading/Leeds & Bestival or the aforementioned Glastonbury performance, will know that LCD are still one of the most explosive and relevant live bands around today. The band has been an omni-present live force across the world since their new line-up debuted at Coachella back in march, selling out the legendary 14,000 capacity Hollywood Bowl in LA (twice) & stealing the show everywhere from bonneroo to fuji rocks via Australia, France, Germany, Tel Aviv and beyond. LCD Soundsystem have just completed an extensive tour of the UK & Ireland and will finish the year with shows in Miami & Mexico next month.
