XTALK
(TAPE / CASSETTE)
Tape / Cassette

The tape comes housed in a spot gloss cigarette packet, with a risograph inlay printed by Goodpress.
Limited tape drop from the crew behind our favourite Glasgow nightspot, EXIT from HommAges. Haunted electronica meets EBM-tinged techno.
Xtalk is inspired by crosstalk, the unintended signal bleed between adjacent analogue audio tracks on degraded audio tape. Due to their tight proximity, magnetic audio fields are not perfectly contained and can leak beyond their track boundaries producing faint reverse audio hauntings across either side of the cassette. Recorded through modified cassette players and a vintage HH Tape Delay, analogue synth and drum machine sequences entangle with text-to-voice synthesis, their sounds becoming increasingly
unstable and hysterical. Signal bleed becomes both process and metaphor to explore the porous dynamics between autonomy and surrender. Tape noise, saturation, and head flutter become points of intimacy and friction, positioning the cassette itself as both instrument and fetish object.[info sheet from distr.]
