Tallinn jazz-funk collective Estrada Orchestra blur the lines of psychedelic groove and avant-garde. Formed in 2013 and anchored by producer and bassist Misha Panfilov - who brings influences from film scores, deep funk, and obscure Eastern Bloc sounds - the five-piece set also hears keyboardist Volodja Brodsky on Clavinet and Rhodes, flutist Ilja Gussarov whose spirited solos lead the charge, saxophonist and percussionist Sashko Petrov, and drummer Madis Katkosilt driving the rhythm with precision. After a sold-out self-titled debut in 2015 and 2017's Jazzbeatjaatis on France's Stereophonk, they followed up with Vaba in 2018. Now this record's free-flowing, psychedelic jazz razz matches their raw live energies, and cements their growing rep beyond Estonia's borders.
