South African sensation Black Coffee, AKA Nkosinathi Maphumulo, returns from extensive, highly successful touring around the world and ground-breaking stadium concerts in his homeland, blurring the lines between orchestra, band and DJ, to introduce the first stunning single, Rock My World, from a brand new triple-disc album due out next week, Black Coffee: Africa Rising. Released by the ever influential Foliage Records, Rock My World is Black Coffee at his smoothest yet, gentle ripples of percussion and slowly-building pads sweeping elegantly beneath co-producer Soulstars passionate vocals and delicious snatches of sax and horn to create a powerful, soulful paean to game-changing love.

The single’s accompanying remixes offer slick variation, a smart nod to Coffee’s immaculate deep vibes but each with its own ingenious, wholly emotive agenda. Tribe chief Zepherin Saint fashions harder electronic edges, firm drums and metallic yet melodic synth-lines utterly bouncin ‘n’ hypnotising, whilst rapidly emerging South African producer EnaWadan generates drama via a submarine, African flute-led soundscape that puts Soulstar and song in intensely effective ‘dream-like’ relief.

Unstoppable Louie Vega protégé Boddhi Satva rounds things off, his mighty Ancestral Soul re-rub arriving on a magic carpet of lush strings before touching down with sassy Afro skank, enriched by crisp percussive kickbacks, further string sweeps and the saxophone neatly imagined as bassline. It’s a brooding, moving take adding so much more to the overall package.

DJ, producer and master keyboardist, Black Coffee started out in his high school choir during the mid-Nineties before forming urban soul band Shana and, in 2003, joining the Red Bull Music Academy; a pivotal experience that switched him on to the delights of deep afro-house. Next year’s new album will be his second, following impressive 2009 debut Home Brewed. Black Coffee has earned several hit singles during his recent house career, not least Superman (featuring Bucie) and Crazy (featuring Thiwe); the latter released on Foliage last year.

Rock My World should rock your world. Its deep intimacy applies as much to loved one as it does dancefloor, a stirring reflection of all that is good in house music and, of course, life. Once again, Black Coffee shines musical light on our souls and banishes the darkness. Things, surely, can never be the same....
