The brothers in house Fritz Zander and Sven von Thülen have made themselves somewhat scarce over the past year. After having impressed in 2008 with their EP >Get Up<, remixes for artists including Ratman, Elphine and Oorsprong, and tracks on the Watergate 02 compilation, their audible activities the following year remained confined to Fritz Zanders superb 12 inch >Connection< and successful compilation appearances on >Ten Years Cocoon Ibiza< and >Time Warp<. Now there is finally something new, and the current Zander VT release certainly lives up to the promise of its title: >Some More< picks up where >Get Up< left off. Its fourno-frills house pearls prove resoundingly that continuity doesnt have to entail standing still.

Zander und Sven von Thülen haben sich im vergangenen Jahr zugegebenermaßen rar gemacht.
Nachdem sie 2008 mit ihrer EP ”Get Up”, Remixen u.a. für Ratman, Elphine und Oorsprong sowie
Tracks auf der Watergate 02 Compilation überzeugten, blieben die hörbaren Aktivitäten des folgenden
Jahres Fritz Zander mit seiner großartigen 12" ”Connection” und Erfolgen auf den Compilations ”Ten
Years Cocoon Ibiza” und ”Time Warp” vorbehalten.
Endlich gibt es Neues – das aktuelle Zander VT Werk hält definitiv, was der Titel verspricht: ”Some
More" setzt unmittelbar an ”Get Up” an und beweist mit vier schnörkellosen House Perlen eindrucksvoll,
dass Kontinuität nicht mit Stillstand gleichzusetzen sein muss.
A1) Entsprechend bewegungsfreundlich zeigt sich der Titeltrack mit druckvollem, aber klanglich federnd
weichem 4er Beat, unprätentiös programmierten Offbeat-Hihats und -Chords. ”Some More” setzt
auf bewährte, klassische Zutaten und mixt daraus einen ebenso wohlschmeckenden wie anregenden
Dancefloor-Cocktail, der zu jeder Tages- und Nachtstunde bestens zu genießen sein wird.
B1) Die zweite Runde geht mit ”Changes” ein ganzes Stück tighter zur Sache. Der Sound ist nach
wie vor klassisch minimalistisch, aber spürbar härter und direkter, das Tempo wird deutlich angezogen.
In der zweiten Hälfte des Tracks durchsetzt eine geniale House-Chord Figur den Track mit deeper
Athmo und verleiht ihm seine äußerst hypnotische Kraft. ”Changes” funktioniert als absoluter
Tanzflächenschieber und ist sicher der Höhepunkt der EP.
B2) ”Holding On” tritt ein wenig auf die Bremse und präsentiert sich, zumindest anfänglich, wesentlich
mehr laid back als der Vorgängertrack. Aber auch ”Holding On” kommt schnell und nachhaltig in die
Gänge und lotet mit einem zunehmend funky betonten House-Piano eine weitere Facette des Zander
VT'schen Sounduniversums aus.
A1) As you might expect, the title track gets bodies moving with a pumping, yet cushioned 4/4 beat, unpretentiously programmed off-beat hi-hats and chords. “Some More” opts for tried and tested ingredients, blending them into a
tasty and stimulating dancefloor cocktail that can be enjoyed any time of day or night.
B1) In the second round, “Changes” takes a considerably tighter approach. The sound remains in the classic minimal mould, but noticeably harder and more direct, whilst the tempo is pushed up a fair old notch. In the second half of
the track a brilliant house chord chimes in to add an extra atmospheric layer and instil the track with a great hypnotic power. “Changes” works as an out-and- out floor-filler and is surely the high-point of the EP.
B2) “Holding On” puts on the brakes a little and introduces itself, at least to begin with, as a considerably more laid back offering than its predecessor. But “Holding On” quickly finds and sustains its rhythm and, with the increasingly
funky tones of its house piano, explores another side of Zander VT’s own sonic universe.
