mona musique returns with more delectable deep house for its second release: the debut ep from veteran dj lea lisa, featuring rich medina. consistently flying the flag for house music for over 15 years, lea lisa is one of those understated djs responsible for pushing the sound, regardless of electronic trends. a mainstay through her residencies in lyon and toulouse and integral involvement in respected record store innerdisc, lea has been cultivating her production skills for some time behind the scenes, until now. a long time friend of label boss nick v, playing each other s parties back in 2004, mona musique presents its second release walking la mona. inspired by the work of her mentor larry heard and her close friend kerri chandler, imagine that is classic house: simple, effective but above all emotive. complimented by the haunting deep tones of rich medina, his conscious spoken words echo discontentment around the current political (or global) climate. on the flip side lea reminisces of the early 90s with a revived spirit on intention. certainly one for the dancefloor, it is lea lisas subtle production work in the beats, synths and organs that make the difference here.

originally released in 1984, identical-twin-brother duo aleem’s release yourself gets a timely repress. this is an early electro masterpiece that goes a long way in showing what subsequent trends have inherited (vocal sample re-pitch, reverence for drum machines, etc.) and what, for better or for worse, they’ve largely discarded (infectious, funky positivity). they don’t make it like this anymore. comes with free titular advice to any artists struggling for label deals.

when wph boss red d heard toriton being played by ken ishii during a wph radio takeover on belgiums studio brussel radio station he ran to the booth and knew this track had wph written all over it. not abiding to any trends, just devastatingly beautiful house music. some licence negotiations and months later satoshi fumi agreed and made lalalalaland, a brand new track to go along with toriton and make up this ep the title track has that unmistakable detroit feel that takes you from melancholy to euphoria and back, while lalalalaland has been described by people hearing it in red ds sets this summer as japanese sunset trance or end of the night eyes closed hands in the air stuff. whatever the words, its the music that counts and satoshi fumi takes his place among the wph family in style!

these songs were not born in the club, nor were they written by producers’ algorithms. so where did these hits come from? maybe from poolside changing rooms (aldona or&#322,,owska is the polish champion in butterfly style swimming)? or maybe from opera singing lessons with professor olga olgina, the melodist born at the beginning of the 20th century in tsarist russia? she feels as good in performing on yachts as in beautiful churches. aldona marries the virtues of an opera singer and a disco star. she creates together with her husband, an outstanding instrumentalist and unconventional producer. they don’t care about trends, they go where the music is. for a quarter of a century they’ve been splitting their lives between malmö and mallorca, swedish piano houses and beaches. aldona or&#322,,owska.

gost zvuk marks tenth release with a new full-length by vtgnike, arguably the most influential producer on the russian electronic scene who is also partly responsible for shaping the label’s aesthetics and sonic identity.
during the years of his practice vtgnike meticulously sculpting a sound unique to himself finding a gap yet unexplored - somewhere between current hardcore continuum trends and the sounds of classic idm era. but despite falling somewhere on the uk music territories, collection creates a space of its own - the one inspired by the al the splendors and miseries of post-sovietness one cannot get rid of.

this time is ricardo rodrigues aka industrialyzer who lands on the court of damon wild with three tracks perfectly aliened with the label s philosophy, synewave has been at the service of real techno for over 20 years. it all begins with analogue planet a 130 bpm journey which rouses the dance floor whilst stimulating the mind, giving both of them no mercy. the second track, -multiple walls-, carries the flavour of an old school small march with a hammondesque synth which revolves around the groove from beginning to end. the atmosphere becomes dark and acid in the third and final track on this release. orbit x is an emotional roller coaster which develops in different phases, everyone of which takes the listener by surprise. with this release industrialyzer reminds us that, after all, new york, detroit, chicago, berlin, amsterdam or lisbon dont really matter, quality techno is a global affair and synewave consistently confirms this with releases above all schemes, movements and trends. monumental.

mister mellow moves further away from the synthesizer-heavy sounds of the recent washed out releases and more band-driven sound of his work on iconic labels sub pop in america, and domino in europe. on mister mellow, greene draws from the experimental collage techniques of musique concrète and plunderphonics artists such as the residents. combining styles as diverse as free jazz, house, hip-hop and psych together with interlude-esque voiceover samples, often pulled from anonymous youtube vlogs, he creates a busy, chaotic, and caricaturish mix that mirrors the claustrophobic, hyper-stimulated psyche so familiar to young adults. as he continues to carve out his innovative sonic identity, influenced by the world around him but unafraid to buck trends, it’s fitting that greene has partnered with legendary hip hop label stones throw records, long a home for beat-loving musical rebels. his approach to releasing music is every bit as individual, too: in an environment where compiling singles into an album format or working with a single video director are the norm, greene has chosen to commission eleven different artists to bring the visual aspect of his fully-realised album project to life. on mister mellow, washed out steers clear of emotion to empathise with the minutiae of the world around him. ive been much less interested in sentimentality and emotion for the past couple of years, says greene, in some ways, i think its a reaction against getting older and having more responsibilities. maybe i’m just nostalgic for a time in my life where i could just relax and block out the world for a moment. though mister mellow is an intensely personal album, its ideas and observations speak to the lived experience of so many young adults, an experience that we come to see as both funny and sad.

didier allyne embodies a certain kind of underground already in the mid 90 s : a record store clerk, distributor, artist and dj, he cross-cuttingly approched the scene even back then, when -french touch- was massive. embracing the new trends from a sideways perspective, he emerged with his own blend of broken beat, soul jazz and warp style electro, always keeping the groove in sight, basicaly what techno is all about, as deep and singular as it gets he began the parisian shop traffic records in 1998. this compilation will be in several volumes that have been flagship pieces of this shop influenced by fat cat records, wally s groove world in others ...this first techno volume highlights the influence that didier received at fat cat by the introspective piece stasis -so-lar- on time in right in 1993 & ritchie inkle, one of the designers of nu loop & whose piece - happy face -represents the techno sound represented by traffic records

olim in latin can be used to indicate a time in the past or in the future. it can mean ‘once upon a time’ and ‘someday in the future’. a name and a project to try to move away from trends and genres, by taking inspiration from the past but at the same time leaving it, moving forward to shape a different and more narrative sound. the first attempt to do so is recursively: an 8 track album, opening with a sentence from bunny marrett sampled from an old documentary about st paul’s and the jamaican immigration in bristol during the 80’s. inspired by those intro words, recursively is a journey born from many years moving around, packing and unpacking suitcases, leaving villages, finding cities,leaving friends and finding more, emigrating, integrating. it’s a story about an entire generation trying to find the peace somewhere, somehow, sometimes by repeating the same steps in a loop of actions which seem to be the same but ultimately never are. it’s a soundtrack of those feelings and at the same time a message of hope to continue the journey through the faith that the meaning is the infinite journey itself. an infinite loop masterfully represented in carol rollo’s illustration. a story to be continued.

alemayehu eshete is considered the golden voice of ethopia. since his first hit single seul in 1961 he has become the father figure of the soulful stream of ethopian music. in ethiopia no other musician adapted the newest trends from the us soul scene as consequently as alemayehu did. with this new 7- he continues his soulful approach on ethopian music. his funky classic alteleyeshegnem is here re-interpretated by the philophon house band in an even funkier way than the original. a tough beat is crisscrossed by mystic harmonies and a pumping bassline. temar ledje points out the sweet side of master alemayehu. this is another classic tune that comes dosed with a rejuvenating cure by the philophon production team. just listen! the cooperation between alemayehu eshete and philophon was initiated by listros e.v. berlin with support by the federal cultural foundation of germany.

off the back of their first ep release, super fun bumper editions trends, which received support from the likes of xl8r, thump, future classic, and bradley zero, beats of no nation is now gearing up for its second release by the chord memory band. chord memory band is a recent collaboration between michael medlycott (from the band vulture street tape gang) and dom bird (bonn co-founder and member of the live disco 4 piece mitzi). at the end of 2016, michael and dom caught wind of a cave, nestled beneath a sacred mountain, deep in the australian outback. the rumours described a cave filled with nocturnal animals and ancient flora, but more importantly, a stash of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. guided by whispers and caught up in the mystic mystery of it all, the duo set off with a dusty four-track tape recorder in an attempt to capture these mythical cave vibes and place them on a record. michael and dom surfaced several months later, with four recordings and no memory of what had occurred. these recordings became their synergistic third eye ep – an analogue journey into the spiritual world, with one simple message, the answer is inside.

after a 10 year absence, portugals question of time records returns in 2012 with brand new vinyl and digital releases. the label was a hugely influential house and techno imprint in the mid 1990s, with everyone from sven väth to carl cox, laurent garnier, mr. c, tony humphries, and dj pippi having supported its groundbreaking releases in the early days. the labels first release of 2012 comes from qot label boss and long-serving portuguese dj hero j. daniel. the >change it< ep features four wildly different mixes of daniels new single. one of the mixes comes from the co-founder of the new qot - ambient house techno experimentalist aqob. overall the package is an entirely absorbing, intelligent and unique club ep that is impossible to categorise. it firmly sits outside the realms of todays club trends.

we are really proud and honored to present espectrum, a year-long effort to put together a compilation of the best dub techno. the idea was simple, but ambitious: ask some of our favorite artists for one track to epitomize dub techno—the style of music we’ve loved and continued to develop since our birth as producers and a label. with a very precise idea of what we wanted to collect, the compilation was carefully built with hypnotic, obscure, dense, and magical sounds with an eternal hook. these are the kind of tracks that will never lose their appeal, because they go above and beyond labels, styles, and trends, resisting the passage of time. after the first tracks starting coming in, the idea grew more and more special, and the concept even stronger. we knew we were onto something really big. and, finally, here it is.

this is idle033: the sound of an accomplished dancefloor producer stretching out. these aren t straight dance tracks, neither is this a ponderous ambient lp. this is vivid, vital electronic music for modern times. tracks to cut through the monotony of depressingly average house and techno releases. the music shimmers with warmth and humanity, a testament to karmil s personality as well as his skill as a producer. one can sense in the tracks that this a musician who has travelled and absorbed much along the way: long drawn out winter nights in sweden with the studio barnhus crew. years spent in cologne with its distinguished electronic sound, a city which has given so much to the world with kompakt and more. last but not least you can sense karmil s upbringing here in the uk, the roughness and rudeness all added to the mix. idle hands has never been a label to follow trends or to take the easy path. it has strived to keep people guessingand to remain in awe and wonder at new music being produced. inmatt karmil it has found a producer whoembodies this notion.

mono junks dum records has been dictating trends in the world of minimalistic techno since the 1990s, and its 34th release is as special as any. this one comes from label boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk vs mesak, who is better known as fellow finn, tatu metsätähti, aka one half of mr velcto fastener and someone who has released on dexter & steffis klakson. together the pair serve up three mixes of their jam and an additional track. title track deep in my mind is a paranoid techno cut with freaky vocal riffs repeating the title as gurgling synth lines and sleek drums rumble below. twitchy synths and high pressure perc add to the hypnotic effect, and overall its easy to see this one making for some perfectly weird dance floor moments. the mix by mono junk is completely the opposite: in his hands it is a beat-less, serene and beautifully styled electro cut that takes you deep into brain soothing space. the electro mind version is then a full on electro jam, with plenty of aqueous synths and fluid lines all squiggling along in classic detroit style. final track sysdrum is back to the raw, with angsty drum lines, crisp and slapping snares and oodles of reverb all making for a brain frying trip.
