cowboy rhythmbox return to phantasy with a new set of recordings, following last year s celebrated debut two-side, we got the box and * rattle*, which gained international dj support from the likes of barnt, carl craig, seth troxler, roman flugel, kim-ann foxman, jackmaster and lena willikens, as well as featuring on erol alkans acclaimed fabriclive 77. fantasma s distinctive three tracks continue from where cowboy rhythmbox left us, a trident forged from the sweat of a thousand lost nights spent dishevelled beneath tarnished mirror balls.

fantasma, the latest project of south african innovator and creative pioneer spoek mathambo, is a five-man collective which weaves together electronica, hip-hop, traditional zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, south african house, psych-rock and punk to form a unique, original and fresh hybrid. the godfather of bacardi house, producer dj spoko joins with former machineri guitarist andré geld- enhuys, drummer michael buchanan and maskandi multi-instrumentist bhekisenzo cele to complete the line up. fused by spoek mathambos futurist vision, fantasma pulls inspiration from all corners of south africa: the sounds and spirits of townships and cities as well as the rural countryside. it is diverse not only in its membership but also in its forward-looking music. the 2x12 inch vinyl includes 2 bonus tracks and download code.

a landmark album from late 60s brazil! this is the first – and the wildest – album by this legendary group that was one of the founding forces of the tropicalia movement – a brilliant musical statement that easily ranks with some of the most groundbreaking late 60s american work by the velvet underground, captain beefheart, or the stooges! the music is a wonderful blend of 60s rock and early mpb – hard-driving with plenty of guitars, but also produced with beautifully baroque touches that echo through simultaneous albums by caetano veloso and gal costa – both of whose 1969 albums are strongly resonant with this one. in fact, caetano contributed a number of tracks to the album, including -panis et circenses-, -bat macumba-, -trem fantastma-, and his great -baby-, which is done fantastically here. great stuff all ’round!

an 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of grammy award-winning latin revival orchestra grupo fantasma, brownout has evolved into a musical force all its own. this 45 features two cuts from their latest release, over the covers, on limited edition transparent red vinyl.

for their second release losers with attitude provides another four track compilation:losers are the new black. there are losers everywhere these days, all over the world. you losers need a sound track for their lives and lwa is here to celebrate you! you are truly the new black! the artists helping us with this release are: from argentina, contrasilencio - a project formed by two long time producers, tom o hara (bassfactory, minimal: impossible, 909 tom, contrasilencio, kinze jam, 1.5,9.13 music) and luis pompa (pompa, contrasilencio, kinze jam, 15c, suculenta, club fantasma). a progressive, intelligent, and slow burning acid track, hasta el martes marks their 3rd appearance on various compilations and their 4th overall release. though the project may be new with over 35 years of experience between them you can be sure to expect big things.

third root is a central texas hip-hop collaborative that focuses on black and brown overlapping culture and identity. the group consists of charles peters (easy lee), marco cervantes (mexican stepgrandfather), and dj chicken george (djcg). peters is an accomplished poet and educator, cervantes is a producer and ph.d. who teaches at the university of texas at san antonio, and djcg is a world-renowned dj, musicologist, designer & jazztronica! peddler. their latest album, libertad, produced entirely by grammy award winner adrian quesada (grupo fantasma, brownout, echocentrics, spanish gold), reflects today’s current mobilization among black and brown communities in the face of debilitating cycles of police brutality, ?awed educational systems, privately owned prisons and detainment centers, corporately owned politicians, and racist judicial systems. the album delivers a mix of social justice and jam session with each song designed to raise questions, incite discussion, and promote healing and liberation. “reflection of the times” and “soul force” are the leading singles from libertad.

...and in the end, not a great deal is known about the spanish duo futuro. the saga begins with the discovery of a cache of test pressings deep within the shelves of a very dusty record shop near the plaza del toros de valencia. as is the case with these things there was no promo sheet or any other information outside of three clues etched into the run-out groove: futuro, jollyman, mcmlxxxvii. through deduction and reasoning it was soon realised that jollyman was a short lived italian record label that closed it s doors in 1987. there were rumours for a while that jollyman was a mafia wedding gift to a music enthused female family member, but as the journey continued it became slightly more likely that this was a tax write-off for it s owners, as the label itself was never very successful, and was more likely an afterthought rather than a full on passion project. that is not to say that there were not gems hidden within it s small catalogue, most notably from noted library musician, composer and arranger alessandro signoretti, without whose help this release would not be presently in front of you. alessandro s assistance led us to the infamous hafenklang studio in hamburg, germany. the very same studio used by boytronic to record their classic lp the continental (some of the same dx presets can easily be heard on both albums) and despite the insane amounts of musicians that have passed through those doors the owner clearly remembered the duo and finally the mysterious futuro had names: javier c rayón and raúl láynez.

too late for the italo boom, and too early for the sonido de valencia craze, the recordings of futuro have sat on master tapes since 1987 finally awaiting their much deserved audience. bordello a parigi are more than proud to present this lost late slow-mo synthesizer italo masterpiece onto the world.

tensnake makes a welcome return on wax with his first release of 2016 desire via his own imprint. on the a side, tensnake brings us a slow and low 112bpm dancefloor burner. written during a travel to a very warm and sandy place, desire is a dreamy groove with hazy vocals, airy guitar and exotic synths that will stick to you like glue. the flipside, fantasma, is a trippy acid disco number infused with oriental influences. flirting with balearic and psychedelia, this record sees tensnake going off the beaten path and sets the tone for what should be a great year in music for him and his label true romance.

mannequin records is proud to present the second volume of der zeltweg - italian tapes industrial music 1982-1984 , the legendary musumeci s tape label existed for some few years in the early 80 s. edition of 500 copies on 160 gram black vinyl. coloured vinyl. while the a-side is filling all the music produced by some of their side projects (errata-s-corrige, gasdehyde and herpes-z) that we already introduced in the first volume, plus an unreleased musumeci very early studio track apologia/musumeci , the b-side is presenting for the first time the full reissue of the psychophatic blossom - il fantasma della libertà tape (der zeltweg 002), an unexpected guitar-bass-noises experimental album, permeated by philosophical declamations in italian language and short pulsating rhythmic compositions.

record store day is synonymous with exclusive and limited releases and this year is no different. featuring a collaboration ep with adrianyounge from venice dawn and black dynamite fame and adrian quesada from the echocentrics, ocote soul sounds, brownout and grammy-winning grupo fantasma. a first name is not all adrian younge and adrian quesada share, they also both have an equal love of the psychedelic, the cinematic and at the root of it all, soul music. so it was inevitable that a collaboration would eventually come to fruition. mutual admirers of each others work, they first met at the sxsw music festival while on the same bill. both began their production careers on mpc and taught themselves various instruments to further capture the symphonies heard in their heads. fresh off his current solo project something about april under the moniker venice dawn, adrian younge found time to create all new tracks with adrian quesada who just released his echoland tribute to timbaland with the echocentrics. although both are distinct artists in their own right, they are cut from the same cloth with a signature sound thats equal parts morricone, early portishead, wu-tang and 60s psychedelic cinema soundtracks. their combined efforts on this ep guarantees a double dose of the sound we have come to expect from these talented individuals.
