new to the stay underground it pays gang, the 11h release on the label comes from one of the most elegant japanese producer we ve heard in ages: motomitsu! we get the chance to get 5 cuts on one ep which is almost a mini album introducing you guys to his astonishing sound. born in 1977 hamamatsu, japan motomitsu is a japanese artist, dj, children s book author, musician, poet, event organizer living in paris. he crosses freely the border of music and arts, literature. he is publishing his children s books and releasing his music. he plays dj as a member of dj team-cracki- in paris, also play the keyboards and accordion for some bands. his art work is influenced by music and poem. he has released tracks on various labels such as cracki, soirée records (detroit) & cherry juice. all in all, another wonderful release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue. skylax always.

byron the aquarius fires up the mpc for a journey into the stratosphere, bringing the heat for ele records 3rdedition with planet rock, a jazz infected keyboard jam with chopped hip hop samples echoing into the cosmos. cozy bear follows with nudi riddim a delectable mix of african percussion, jazz samples and acidic basslines. on the b side we find more hip hop infused methodology, with glenn davis digging into salsouls back catalogue with his huge summer anthem holdin on. finally, unknown artist is back on ele following on from the huge anthem ru$h. this time it s back to the mpc with a daft punk style 90s disco banger fade (never know).

new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

archive records for its 15th years anniversary decided to celebrate properly with a compilation entitled the crystal collection. it displays some of the works from the label and its artists that go mostly from 1999 to 2004. not necessarily the most popular tracks from the catalogue, but a selection we strongly believe has to be heard in 2015!

after hyperdubs first compilation of 10th anniversary dancefloor heaters, -hyperdub 10.2- features some of the labels best songs of the last five years or so. hyperdub is often associated with dark and brooding instrumental music, however, this mid-summer collection sheds some sunlight over that dread filled reputation, showcasing an underrated cast of talented songwriters, vocalists and producers. the album is laced with brand new cuts from kode9, cooly g, morgan zarate feauring. eska and ghostface killah, jessy lanza, dean blunt & inga copeland, and dva featuring zaki ibrahim. ranging from melancholy r&b, garage, funk, footwork and icy pop, -10.2- covers this overlooked side of the labels back catalogue. the album opens with dean blunt & inga copeland-s grime lullaby signal 2012, one of their final collaborations, moving into burials dubbed-out r&b on shell of light from his seminal album untrue, and jessy lanzas stand-out cut 5785021, before sliding into the digi dub meets r & b slow jam of south londons cooly g with obsessed. king britt features next, with his fhloston paradigm project, on the deeply emotive never defeated- featuring rachel claudio. after their collaboration on his pretty ugly album, dva is joined again by south african singer zaki ibrahim with their brand new summery mutant garage track solid. dam funk jumps on ikonikas funk bomb -mr. cake-, adding a fun, party vocal. continuing the -80s funk vibe is morgan zarate and roses gabors ice cold prince-influenced pusher taker, the lead track from his 2013 ep. jessy lanza contributes some more sparkling r&b with the brand new you and me, followed by another track from morgan zarate, a lost dub featuring the soulful eska and wu tang clans ghostface killah. the tempo raises in the final stretch of the album with dvas and fatimas collaboration just vybe, terror danjah & melekas shimmering r&g cut you make me feel and the 160 bpm soul of the late dj rashads only one from his acclaimed double cup album. the cd closes with the lo-fi, bashy mutation of kode9 & copelands lies lies. 10.2 calls on hyperdubs sirens to balance the moody energy of 10.1 with fourteen slices of hyper soul. let them lead you astray

july sees radio slave’s rekids invite britain’s renowned swayzak to the roster with a cold war themed release entitled ‘odessa calling’ ep. a name associated with quality, swayzak’s ability to retain their signature sound whilst producing across various sub-genres has cemented them a solid reputation since their humble beginnings in the 90s. their impressive back catalogue includes six studio albums and appearances on labels like k7, m_nus, curle, ellum and swayzak’s own label 240 volts, which was relaunched in 2017. originally a duo comprised of david brown and james taylor, brown has been helming the project solo since 2012. he now joins respected berlin-based imprint rekids with two inspired productions. ‘odessa calling’ is a mysterious track with hypnotic synths, mesmerising pads and enigmatic vocals that combine together to create a celestial aesthetic. on the flipside, ‘numbers station’ continues with the otherworldly feel employing shimmering percussion that wanders alongside a brooding bassline for a well refined finish to the package.
