vocalist and mult- instrumentalist family thebroomfield s might be new to you but deepfunk heads know the deal. the six broomfield siblings (vocalist, diane and her 5 brothers) released some of the best rare groove 12s and 45s in the 1980s (although this 45 was recorded in 1979) as well as recording with betty wright, kc and the sunshine band, timmy thomas, little beaver, julio iglesias, michael sterling and many, many more. championed by keb darge and others on the deepfunk scene in the early 2000s, this record has remained agonisingly elusive, despite being very popular as both sides are brilliant. so, with the help of symphonical records we got in touch with aaron and made this happen, look out for aaron s 45 dropping soon as well.

edna wright’s idiosyncratic “oops!” is one of the most sublime vocal refrains in soul music history. anchoring its host album’s leadoff cut, it sets the tone for a uniquely satisfying modern soul lp. indeed, whilst many of its ilk come laden with filler, wright’s one solo record is an exercise in elegant restraint, a concise killer. officially licensed and beautifully remastered for vinyl by celebrated engineer simon francis, it has been pressed on audiophile 180g vinyl for the first time and features the original iconic artwork. each copy includes a printed inner sleeve with a sumptuous black & white photo, full lyrics and heartfelt notes from edna herself.

impossibly rare sweet soul & funk from the vaults of miami s bold records (a subsidiary of the mighty t.k. disco label). there s scant information on reid inc as a group but the album boasts some gorgeous soulful melodies from the all female personnel and features stellar string & horn arrangements from miami studio stalwart mike lewis (blowfly, kc & the sunshine band, latimore, fern kinney) & is produced by the mighty clarence reid who has written, recorded & produced too many records to list here (betty wright, wilson pickett, dusty springfield, bobby byrd, gwen mccrae) throughout his 50+ year career. this is a real rarity, a record that fetches top, top dollar ($500 plus) on-line among soul, funk & disco aficionados. -what am i gonna do- has been comped numerous times but this is the first time the whole lp has been re-mastered & re-issued on vinyl (having previously only been re-released on cd in japan) brought to you in conjunction & with the permission of t.k. disco / henry stone music, miami usa.

milton wrights perfect deep soul classic *keep it up* has always been a top shelf record, everything about it is almost flawless! whether it is miltons silky vocal delivery, the incessant guitar driven back beat or the total space funk vibe of his omnipresent arp-2600 synthesizer this record has it all. originally released on tk discos more soul and funk orientated alston label which was home to many legendary artists and records, this 1975 sunshine classic never fails to make people move. a classic rare groove indeed. *the silence that you keep* takes up side-b, a jazzy, flute driven love song that again features milton s perfect voice and some fantastic arrangement. a real gem of a record, with the original 45 changing hands for over £100 a time in used condition. this is the first time *keep it up* has been re-issued in its original 45 rpm format with the original alston label artwork. it has been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of tk disco / alston records, miami florida, usa.

massive uk techno / electro mover !! a teenage fascination with the outer reaches of contemporary music (beefheart, psychic tv, non, pharaoh saunders, the fall) and stints in various bands saw wright ditch the physics degree and return to york university to study music technology. by the start of 1992 he had made the jump from enthusiastic amateur to record his first tracks with john dalby in the local finsbury park studios in york under the guise of germ.

first official reissue of the extremely rare full-length album by lagos-based bandleader shina williams. clean copies of the original currently sell for up to £500. the record was born in 1979 when shina put biddy wright, fred fisher, saliu alabi, prince bola, tutu shoronmu, tunde willimas and several other decorated nigerian musicians – who played with the likes of fela kuti, sjob movement, sonny okoson, king bucknor amongst others – together to record. the result is ‘african dances’, a timeless fusion of afrobeat, electronics, boogie and disco. includes his most well-known song, ‘agboju logun’ that williams knew was ground breaking – “i want to show the whole wide world that africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,”. this album version is a different mix to the two-track 12” that came out under on earthworks, rough trade in 1984. official mr bongo reissue. replica original artwork. licensed direct from shina williams.

the 1970s saw winston wright working closely with dynamic sounds studios nucleus of musicians cutting material for all the top producers of the time including numerous sides for bunny striker lee, which we have focused on for this set of tunes. from 1975 onwards winston wright was a member of toots and the maytals touring band, but we celebrate here his mighty fine studio work. adding his touches to many a fine rhythm as only winston could we hope you enjoy the set.

brooklyn based madteo returns to meakusma after his critically acclaimed >sinister ministers< 10inch released on the label in spring 2009. his signature stylistic approach still borders on deep, ambivalent and engaging house music and hiphop influences. the five tracks here are some of the strongest material he has produced, with basslines, melodies and moods shifting in and out of focus all the time and once again setting a rough yet subtle mood. the >bangin on the ceiling< track features a new collaboration with hiphop legend sensational. for fans of deep and different club-oriented music.
