„spectral decay” is a collection of musical reflections about the paradoxical contemporary state of humankind, whereas its own technological, social, cultural and economical development seems to entrench the possible points of a structura downfall. the narrative of „spectral decay” starts with heavy, mesmerizing industrial vibes. due to the notable sound design techniques of japanese artist tetsumasa, his hefty piece „nex” evolves into a harsh but still amazingly cinematical music sculpture. subsequent mid-tempo composition „onzour shayatini” by meer dynamically follows the dark, experimental path of drone and noisy structures. violent accents smoothly lead to the deconstruction of drum & bass patterns and turn into strident 90s metal riffs. the track progressively penetrates obscure subterranean abysses and becomes a perfect introduction to the next theme by yuji kondo – „hades”. in greek mythology hades was the ancient god of the underground kingdoms, darkness, death and metals. therefore, kondo’s music piece turns into an infernal portrayal of the underworld where tenebrous layers of bass frequencies, raw textures and drexciyan sounds build up an enormous and lasting tension. side b begins with the track „anthropocene” produced by arboretum co-founder – mogano. the whole composition refers to the present geological epoch we live in, characterized by environmental pollutions, depletion of fossil fuels and accelerated urbaniza- tion of the world. it is a deeply conceptual soundscape of a powerful system, that incorporates both – the destructive forces of technology and the infinite energy of the whole universe, that interweave in a devilish dance of post-techno, breakbeat and dub tones. thereafter, ~raw in his piece „poly bios” pictures the interference of human structures in the nature. creating a mosaic from indus- trial and tribal, organic sounds, he tells a mystical story of fear, hope, escape and primeval instincts. the narration concludes with an atmospheric composition of nwrmntc – solo project of ana quiroga from experimental ambient duet lcc. „beyond” is a boundless, spectral reflection on collective human consciousness, where haunting vocals evoke a recon- dite, ineffable pain, leaving the listeners in a profoundly meditative state. laura polan&#769,ska

the red hook grain terminal is a post-industrial unit overlooking brooklyn that serves as a pillar of the recent work of sound-artist, jordan edge. inorganic is a collection of organic sounds that have been degraded by inorganic spaces and working methods. the listener is situated in a three-dimensional world where the deterioration of sound is equal to the creation of the content itself. a world of dampened acoustics, half destroyed spaces, dead room tones and manipulated environmental surroundings.

fayze came of age in windsor, ontario, a diverse, gritty canadian city in the immediate shadow of detroit. during the 1980s, this fortunate geography placed the local scene in the inner orbit of the emergent detroit techno scene. from that starting point, fayze fell deeply in love with experimental, original sounds. today, his innovative, genre-defying soundscapes flirt occasionally with global schools like avant-pop and krautrock, but his sound is all his own. fayze s new music uses vintage analog synthesizers, which he s been collecting since the early 1990s, to build organic, textural compositions. an idiosyncratic collection of ambient, dreamy soundscapes, the album features inspired collaborations with detroit, windsor, and toronto artists. its myriad influences include aphex twin , stereolab , led zeppelin , and boards of canada . a well-travelled creative professional by day, fayze previously made music with marc houle and marshall sfalcin of king kool flipped . this is his first major solo project.

xixa balance ep (apa002) abstract places audio elusive producer xixa delivers the second abstract places audio release. balance is a three-track ep where the co-founder of the label packs a solid techno sound drowned in complex and evolving atmospheres. as first label’s release (clip - gebre, 2016), this is not a 100% club record, we can hear ambient and idm influences, but a1 and b1 are perfect tracks to keep a techno set full of rhythm and tension, and will get its place on any dj record bag. a1 balance is built around a distorted but controlled techno beat. patiently, a wide palette of drones and other-worldly artefacts are growing next to carefully crafted percussive sounds. 1984 opens the b side of the 12”, with a 4 to the floor overdriven bass drum and a reverse reverb announcing its main synth sequence, accompanied by organic hi-hats and clap sounds. a collection of ethereal drones and noises is also used, giving the track a sense of cohesion and gluing its different parts. life inside a snow ball is xixa s personal take on ambient. some of the drones and artefacts from a1 are now mixed with new quasi- harmonic emotional textures and subtle noises emerging from a deep unknown space and forming a complete new sonic experience. balance ep is a very solid second release by abstract places audio that confirms the label sound and philosophy.

the first release on youth - a new label from andrew lyster, comes from portland based artist yard. hailing from the dark woods of the west coast of the united states, yard brings together a collection of tracks from the archives alongside some new material. canopy and white fog were originally released on the album deciduous flood plains, and have been reworked for this release. marshall acid is pressed to vinyl for the first time having previously only been available digitally via event horizon. yard’s gritty sound evokes a spectrum of gnarled city life to organic atmospheres. the release comprises of field recordings, micro-cassette mangles, bass kicks, a live jam between x0xb0x and a modded tr-606 and water drops percolating through the mixes to get that urban hum and grit running up against the forest.

lessismore record label, founded in 2003 by the dutch dj and producer alexis tyrel together with mbc, has been home for mostly his own releases under all his monikers and various artist compilations. “return to planet alpha” continues in this tradition, being a second long-player of alexis tyrel after his debut “newtradition” from 2011.
“return to planet alpha” is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn’t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

originally founded by kisk back in 2009 apparel music set out to offer something truly singular in focusing their musical output predominately on jazz whilst venturing into its integration across the landscape of electronic music at the time.with a zealous release schedule, they racked up a healthy collection of eps between 2010-2015 from artists such as delano smith, scsi-9, sarp yilmaz and the label owner himself amongst many others. now after a year-long hiatus, the label makes a return with a slick 4-track va that fans both old and new will relish. strictly limited to a pressing of 200 on 180 grams of wax, their re-launch brings with it a jazz-suffused 4-track record featuring voyeur, ivano tetelepta & eugeÌne latumeten, kisk and kerem akdag. voyeurs swinging for theo kicks things off with organic, brushed drums and a walking bass line set off to a tight, swaying rhythm. glassy rhodes keys bleed into the mix ahead of piano stabs and 909 hats that propel progress when combined with a thickened low-end. ivano tetelepta & eugeine latumeten follow up with je suis reconnaissant a bass-heavy groove that lays soulful vocal samples over filtered piano chords and loose-limbed hat patterns. kisks just u then drives a crackly drum loop through distant, flexing synth tones. arresting vocal samples then take the foreground in a rich, smokey mix before istanbuls kerem akdags closes up the package. akin to the styles of producers such as henry wu and max graef, akdags friend melds playful drum patterns with thick chord stabs and smooth vocal lines that wrap up a stellar return for apparel music.

the durian brothers consist of rising polyrhythmic talent dont dj, outernational adventurer harmonious thelonious and salon des amateurs resident marc matter. following their excellent outings on kontra-musik and diskant, the experimental trio build on a burgeoning relationship with emotional response by gathering together some of the best of their intense, globetrotting sounds. theres a great focus on cyclical rhythms, not least on the wonderful planete sauvage, while mille yeaux takes a more spacious, groovy route through wooden percussion and pinging organic tones. considering the scarcity of the original diskant pressings of these tracks, this collection couldnt come quickly enough.

for alec koone, the 20 year old, pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in new york at the time of his first release, >wander / wonder< is a coming of age album that sees him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with. in koone s own words: it s an open ended album, and i think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. it s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a bach cello suite, i see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. it s also an album that should be listened to loudly. wander / wonder is a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it s own making, balanced between the ecstatic wonder referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself, like shards of light flickering through a blanket of fog, and even though wander / wonder is undeniably an electronic album, it feels strangely organic, rooted in nature, synthetic textures and distorted voices harmonizing with an ever present oceanic shimmer. wander / wonder was written and produced by alec koone in new york and pennsylvania. mixed by alec koone and sam haar (member of blondes) in new york city.

cascabel gentz is an ambitious side project of two producers who are always on the run - los angeles resident apendics.shuffle and dilo from buenos aires. since 2009 they get together in the studio and create an individual mix of house, techno and minimal spiced with their own vocals and guitar riffs. this very personal and organic mood reflects on the new record >electric high<. the original tracks are complemented by an excessive remix collection. gurtz and alejandro mosso play their part to make this ep a prime example for todays music culture network.

permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.

with labelboss pheeks album >en légère suspension< being loved by many for its eloquent detailing and organic, electronic psychedelia, we are happy to bring you a collection of remixes of select tracks from the album. for the remixing purposes, archipel called two favorites to compile a colourful mix between warm afterhours and peak time music. >aye aya ashawa< gets treated by mathias kaden and molded into an exotic, humid cloud of hypnotic, densely layered quasi-tribal percussion with the original vocal presenting itself in a very visual hypnagogic manner. the excellently driving and hypnotic >orage solaire< gets put through the wringer by tim xavier who highlights the hypnotic nature of the original and darkens the tone a little more into a jittering, pulsing aural storm.

trulz & robin are trulz kvam & robin crafood from norway. good friends with lindstrom & prins thomas (eskimo), they produce a mixture of totally deranged nu-disco & killer techno with detroit influences (which they rightly called >acid-house gone organic<) on their own planet noise imprint they run with ost & jex (crosstown rebels). they head for the suicide headquarters with a collection of trax, produced together, separately or with fellow producer christian cook and featuring some vocals by bassman. from killer dutch-influenced electro (>chest of gold<, the title track) to seriously hitting acid-techno (the weirdly-named >gummi tarzan<) and superb techno/electronic house (>feel techno<), this is a mixed bag of really original & crazy scando-med asylum dance music for your feet and your soul

!k7 are pleased to announce forest swords as the next curator of the ever essential dj-kicks series. following acclaimed albums on ninja tune and tri angle, soundtrack and installation work, and remixes of the likes of bjork, matthew barnes aka forest swords has curated a 25-track compilation that draws a line between past inspirations and his current peers. like much of his own output, his dj-kicks skirts around pristine electronics and embraces more organic textures: 80s post punk (anna domino, dead can dance), classic 90s british electronica (orbital, mira calix), and smokey digi-dub (rhythm & sound), all rub up alongside some of the most forward-facing producers working today (demdike stare, laurel halo, fis). the compilation sifts through rhythms, shifting speeds and emotions: from pop icon neneh cherrys primal thudding to the zombified throb of exclusive forest swords track crow via deena abdelwaheedÕs clattering deconstructions to the euphoric two-step of djrum. its a collection of tracks that feels as restlessly curious and weighty as barnes own work.
