ende der 1950er hauchten antonio carlos jobim, vinicius de moraes und joao gilberto mit samba-rhythmen eine neue sensibilität in die musikalische landschaft rio de janeiros hinein, die einen derartigen einfluss auf us-amerikanische jazzmusiker hatte, dass der bossa nova zum dominierenden stil der ersten hälfte der 1960er jahre wurde. der sampler -jazz bossa nova- reflektiert mit 22 aufnahmen von quincy jones, lalo schifrin, stan getz, klaus doldinger, cal tjader, sergio mendes, ramsey lewis, charlie byrd, u.v.a. diese epoche in hervorragender art und weise.

fredfades is a norwegian producer specialising in the uncut raw hip hop. here’s his debut solo album, “warmth”. (vinyl includes download code) in 2013 he dropped a classic with ivan ave called breathe on kingunderground records. warmth is his debut solo album following a long line of singles, collaborative albums, cassettes and load of independently released projects. the album has 16 tracks made from jazz, soul and boogie samples with gritty drums and a dash of synth stabs, mixed by fred and mastered at strype audio in oslo by christian obermayer. the title track warmth is the last track on the album and was sampled from a live recording off one of fred’s favourite jazz records that is always on heavy rotation at the crib. guests at the table include med (stones throw), mndsgn (stones throw), ivan ave, (jakarta), moruf, koreatown oddity (stones throw), chester watson and more.

after a longer than usual break gamm enterprises is back on black plastic but more important... we got a brand new design! for those who don t know gamm has been delivering dance music of the blacker kind for almost 15 years but always with the same look. basically, a visual facelift was long overdue. but we think you ll feel it as much as we do and it really works beautifully with our musical ideology. so, for the (new) premier release we got an incognito producer that is rumoured to come from a small town in mexico. having finally agreed for a brief skype call he appeared wearing none other than a bright luchador mask and giving one-word answers with a strong mexican accent. no matter how convincing that was we still can t help thinking his name sounds pretty close to another producer that is to put it mildly, pretty hyped at the moment. musically the ep is ranging from percussive carnival disco (carnival in manchester) to brazilian fusion grooves (jazz in italics) and independent disco/funk (dues paid fast). either way you ll definitely find something that will work your party. gamm is back and back with musical vengeance!

i know, i know… these tunes can really not be classified as house tools. martin beume, who also released the fabulous texgreen ep on outils, presents three unorthodox house tracks packed with the two winner components: weird melodies and mighty basslines. step right up! - the first cut on this release, gives you the feeling of being in a khole in the middle of a freak show carnival. catchy and odd melody snippets rotating diffusely on a never ending marching groove - absurdity in its most elegant form. slowly but steady – its a telling title! old school to the core, this track builds up steadily and adds layer for layer of jazzy samples until the tune is completed to an alluring dancefloor killer. flowing ribbon – what a lovely and sweet tune.

christian and his band also apply their open-minded jazz attitude to the minimalist house throb of groove la chord by the stockholm-based aril brikha. a crescendo of liquid beats and feverish drums, the track builds to a breathless carnival rush, then sinks back to pure pulsating rhythm again. magnificent.
