returning to hypercolour with a second volume of his sugar cane chronicles, gary gritness lays down more devastating funk and classy riffing over his trusty roland 606. after the first volume, released last april, sold out its vinyl run, gritness delivers more explorations and adventures into his unique and soulful world. having elusively built his reputation as an outstanding session player, live producer and fantastically dressed funkateer, gritness has delivered a handful of releases on labels like clone crown ltd, nyami nyami and his own diy and cassette-only slikk tapes. steady choosin gets downright fusion-jazz and gritness fires out seductive melodies and latin piano playing of the highest order whilst countin up with starr delves into a darker well of synth mania, with a sexual groove reminiscing of rick james, all the while retaining garys signature licks and riffs. runner joes revenge on the flip ramps up the hysteria for a gritty and colossal production that typifies his love of cyberpunk soundtracks and the drama and narrative to be found in this style. the sugar cane chronicles vol. 2 closes with the low-slung pool shark loot wrapping up on a mysterious and captivating tone, its wandering bassline and melodic touches carrying all the signature gritness sounds, with the p-funk sleaziness on top.

mr. k turns to the funkier side of disco on the latest 12-inch from most excellent unlimited, working his magic on a couple cuts that still retain the same power to fill dance floors they had back in the day. - love the life you live is one of those rare songs that was big for me when i first started djing, and still jams today,- notes krivit, who gives another stripped-down, bass-heavy edit to the irresistible kool & the gang classic. one for the b-boys as well as the loft heads, mr. k s edit gradually builds on the hard-charging rhythm with a slinky keyboard solo, punchy horn riffs and breaks, breaks, breaks. gary toms empire ruled the summer of 75 with -7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (blow your whistle),- and progressive djs looking for a follow-up soon discovered another mover in the band s repertoire. -drive my car- is a lennon/mccartney cover that bears little resemblance to the original, and indeed most fans would be hard-pressed to identify any similarities at all in danny krivit s reworked version. stripping out the vocals and chorus and leaving just the rumbling low end groove, mr. k s edit motors along for a cool 7 minutes, laced throughout with short change-ups to elevate the energy. both tunes spread over their own sides of a 12-inch to ensure full-frequency clarity and power!

the italian artist has been a fixture of the underground since her precocious teens, clocking up many miles in control unit with ninni morgia (“it’s like catherine deneuve dumped two cases of post-repulsion psychiatric notes over pere ubu’s dub housing, lit the fuse and, ahem, stood well back” – julian cope), including collaborations with the likes of smegma, factrix, gary smith, aki onda and gate (michael morley of the dead c). through her own label, ultramarine, she has released music by the likes of raymond dijkstra, blood stereo and bene gesserit.

red laser seems to be attracting a wealth of young parisian talent as they release more heat from paris via red laser new comer romainn bezzina. bezzina has worked closely with bent producer simon mills to create and compile this ep of sultry analogue baleario disco especially for the manchester label. bezzina s remix of gary low s i want you has already appeared on the recent red laser disco compilation and now gets a re-press on this heavyweight twelve for increased sound quality. bezzina also drops fly away jack, a splendid shuffler reminiscent of van mccoy or bebu silvetti with a touch of love unlimited thrown in. these accompany 2 more tracks of sensual synth deepness including an exclusive vinyl release of bent s exercise 4 to make even the icy sleet of salford turn into the sweltering sun of st tropez.

red laser conductor general il bosco once again turns his beam on 8 tracks of mind melding italo. providing a another superb double vinyl release of tracks that have been inspirational to red laser records and the labels releases. this isn t by any means your run of the mill italo selection. il bosco knowingly selects a set that shows the true girth of style and fashion in the genre. face grillers are ramped up next to sleazy pop sensibilities. goth-synth disco frottages with 8-bit machine gun bass lines. chugger masterpieces salivate on crystalline new romantics. as the compiler says truth is, loads of italo is shite but when its good it s up there with the best electronic disco music you will ever hear check this album and you ll agree. for maximum disco potential several red laser protagonists have suitably revamped and edited some of the selections with kid machine & il bosco uniting in the cut, flemming dalum sprinkling his magic dust over a bonafide classic & parisian romain bezzina repairing an old banger. as always red laser pay close attention to detail with all tracks carefully restored & remastered whilst the vinyl comes in full colour heavy card inners with two riso print poster sleeves & a gatefold pvc cover. limited to 500 & no repress !

this one is a killer! what a release for newcoming artist tino boa: powerful basslines, shuffled grooves, precise bassdrums and creative, inspiring breaks team up and leave a absolutely fresh approach to techno. this one will hit the playlists of really everybody, be sure, especially as uks technohereo gary beck delivers another proof why he is expected to be one of the hottest exports of the island. grab it, chances for getting a more fat techtune are low :-)

alex finishes some dark experiements in the lab with this first outing the black series from credo. from time to time you can expect some really dark approaches to the technoside of life. the kick off now with the dark summer nights, pt1 flows constantly and pushed forward through some low chords which finally return to a super low bass-driven drumming pattern. the second part is kind of fragmented, alsways evolving and finally finding the way to an rolling end, somehow even more dark than part one. this is gets huge support already from the likes of len faki, speedy j, chris liebing, gary beck and the other usualy credo-suspects. the bacl series will be strictly limited to 500 copies onlyfor each release!!!
