garage bands suddenly obtain cult status and become the antithesis of their initial appeal’ garage class were a group of reluctant outliers who produced one of the finest contributions to the wave of uk diy music that emerged during the late 70s and early to mid-80s. hailing from alsager in north west england and comprised of tim shutt (vocals) phil murphy (lead guitar) clive williams (guitar) lynne sanders (bass) and phil bourne (drums / bass on studio recordings) garage class originally went by the name of the pits before their then manager steve hurt imposed an alias which, though unpopular within their ranks, would nevertheless reflect the shambolic art they would eventually capture on their first and only single.

garage shelter aka signal st is a french producer who did mainly tracks for skylax under the name garage shelter that has been praised by ben ufo, move d or mad rey (d.ko). he signed also some eps on midi – deux & house puff (dj steaw). he s also behing the bleu blanc house project (with hardrock striker label s head honcho). we ve been following him for years now, the result is obvious : another storming disco house classic. bangers! skylax records 4 ever

concept e25 is back! wax classic 15 sees concept e25’s third release on the label in the space of just a year! the demand has been overwhelming for more garage house hits with that added subtle, french flourish. we heard those cries, so here we have another slammin four track record from the man himself! the opening track of the ep, sing!, is destined for greatness this summer on dance floors everywhere. for me, this will be the go-to track of the record for most djs out there. on this track, concept e25 combines a pumping kerri style bassline with beautiful sustained chords, feel good vox cuts and the occasional sax line. proper hands-in-the-air vibes here! giving it takes the ep into a deeper realm, one that evokes images of late evening summer sunsets. however, the garage swing and signature concept e25 bass sound is still present. lies leads with moody chords before introducing a vocal that will be stuck in your head for a long time! again, we have a smooth sax line to accompany the vocal up to the track’s climax. rounding out this solid release is feel this way. here, the punchy bass hits are united with an acid line that bubbles underneath, before being unleashed halfway through the track in a warehouse-reminiscent burst of resonance.

last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

reissue of in demand classic.dubtraxx was new on the scene back in 2019 when they dropped this ep which has since become something of a mini-classic. it came on their own label rhythm n vibe and now this is seriously heavyweight gear gets reissued. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the -2000 tribute mix- of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

repress , unison wax 01 as a whole is an exercise in classy, reduced house for the summer generation. a-side -seize- crashes into force, with unapologetic bass that seems to be breaking at the seams. perfect for building or taking it down, its simple, four-four quality as dusty hats scatter and float around the top. then the keys hit, sizzling and singeing at the edges like they’ve been left on the grill too long, before the whole thing melts into the break. its hot summer garage house for late evening breakdowns. flip it over and the vinyl takes on a distinctive darker flavour. -groundhog- plays smooth, reduced house elements against a driving, deep bassline that rumbles and pushes you on. around that coils softly pulsating synths that swell in and away from you before the tooly, smooth finish reduces to a close. -special treatment- is smoother though. dusty shakers, jacking claps, druggy synths and a rolling, questioning bassline shows a deeper, darker shade of berlin house before it casually pumps its way to the close... and of course vinyl only
