outplay mainstays fouk & junktion continue to hone their craft, shedding the extraneous & chiselling out the raw forms. direct, lean and ready for the floor.
from the outplay camp comes their new sublabel 24 carrot! its for the other tracks the bits that dont necessarily fit in on a regular outplay ep. whether it be edits, loose pumping house tracks, or just straight up weird stuff. whatever takes our fancy. 24 carrot 1 is a collection of tracks from outplays own junktion and fouk. on the a-side junktion comes at you with the search, an uplifting piano vocal disco tune which will be sure to make those feet move! the flipside is fouks turf. thats pretty vague amps it up as a groovy bass line house track, broken with toughened up synths. the tongue in cheek vocals lighten the mood, while staying pretty vague. what the ... is he talking about? paahdy says it all, straight up house with nods to chicago, perfect for a paahdy.
when fouk & glenn astro remix a new artist you know what the vibe is: dirty diy house with a heavy funk vibe. mangabey is the new kid on the toy tonics family and he is a master of this style. he lives in lyon/ france (and is a good friend of folamour who remixed his first ep on toy tonics some months ago).
after their butterfunk ep from last year, fouk are back again with their new offering mating call ep. as the name suggests, this three track ep is made for the hot & heavy moments while dancing away, during those infinite summer days. the title track mating call is a funky beast, driven by a very infectious bassline and live instrumentation, edging the line between disco and house, as has we have come to expect from the duo. the next track on the flip furthers the fact that this release is all about the groove. housey vibes with a classic hint, rhodes floating on a solid rolling funk bass. just feel good ? yup! finally we come to down below . you might wonder what s down below? well, there you can find a dreamy thumper, driven by the compact kick, repeating drone and deep bassline, while the synth pads in the middle tie it all together.
fouk might have been curating outplay since 2013, but their butterfunk ep is in fact the duos first proper ep on their own imprint. its not that theyve been resting on their laurels: they ve drip-fed a handful of eps on the likes of heist and house of disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on kolour ltd and razor n tape that stormed the charts. it s been fascinating to see the dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production. the butterfunk ep is fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dancefloor funk. things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious hammond lines of organ freeman. title track butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. flip over for the bumping wong way, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. the finale of the ep is winter, a fantastic slice of 80s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.
fouk are finally back on heist after their great ‘kill frenzy’ ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘fouk’ sound to the next level. fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor ‘n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam’s “claire” and paris’ “concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent ‘with lasers’ ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘f3000′,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track ‘with lasers’ is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. lots of them. the b side ‘see you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds “mount liberation unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.
long awaited 2016 repress! a collection of four deep, warm and fuzzy house tracks by outplay co-owners daniel leseman and junktion. while both daniel leseman and junktion are showcasing their individual talent on the release, their new collaborative project fouk sees the light of day for the first time! influenced by the soulful house sounds of old chicago and detroit, this vinyl debut from outplay shows you what they re all about.

house of discos vinyl only edits imprint hodstash is back with four cuts for the floor with tracks from label regulars fouk, snack & harry wolfman and a track from someone totally new sdwtrx.
following the success of joey negros produced with love album, four of the album cuts get the remix treatment from an all-star cast of producers each with their own particular flavor. kicking it off chicago legend ron trent takes the original funked out, arthur russell flavoured, distorting space time and turns it into a deep house groover complete with a strong walking bass alongside adding a soul & richness to the elements that only he knows how. crackazat step up next to take on lactican boogie crafting it into an uptempo piano driven, emotionally charged stomper sure to do some damage this summer. flip it over and lay-far delve into in search of the dream adding squelchy synth stabs and a deep bass to give a more hard hitting edge to the track whilst retaining that disco flavor with angela johnsons emotive vocals. closing out the ep fouk come full circle, bringing their hazy, jazz tinged style to distorting space time building the remix around those warm rhodes chords, shuffling rhythm and dynamic bassline. gold once again from the z records camp!
LATE NIGHT STUDIO MOVES EP (THE MOLE REMIX)(180 G VINYL)
12 Inch 25.06.18
as a dutch label, were proud supporters of the homegrown sounds of guys like nachtbraker, frits wentink and fouk. adding another dutchie to our list of exquisite producers, we present you pitto with his debut on heist recordings. pitto is a musically omnipotent creature, venturing into deep house with the underground hit richklap on wolfskuil back in 2012 and dreamy electronic pop with his album breaking up the static on sonar kollektiv and virgin. he has also moved beyond producing his own music, running studio stekker, a dutch music festival that focused on freeform creative interactions between musicians where the artists performing on the festival locked themselves up a week in advance in kytopia (colin benders synth paradise) to make new music together. through this, hes worked with people like kyteman, matthew johnson, sebastian mullaert and colin de la plante, better known as ‘the mole, who is also present on pittos heist debut with a remix. the ‘late night studio moves ep is one of varied styles, where pittos inspiration from african music, jazzy and soulful samples becomes evident. he finds his ‘funk in repetition, clever sample combinations and combining electronic and live elements in the most organic way. ‘late night studio moves finds its basic groove in an african percussive loop.
nashville s dusty funkateers magic in threes return to rnt reserve with a triptych of low-strung grooves, each complimented by a superlative remix. chupa cabra, a sweet soulful joint, is reimagined as a devilishly pulsating and funky burner by rnt mainstays fouk on their remix. parisian patchworks takes the 70s-cop-show funk of work tapes straight to nigeria with a beautifully crafted highlife remix. finally there s come on down, reminiscent of classic donald byrd in the larry mizell days, which is beefed up and readied for the dance floor by analog wizard lay-far. a lovely package for listening, or bumping!

our fourth 12- vinyl release, again a full 4 track artist ep, comes from young dutchman cleanfield. relatively unknown at the start of this year, we listened to his demo s and signed them on the spot for a vinyl release. they are really that good, and fall into the same category as the output of fouk, nachtbraker, and more..... while waiting on the production of this release he s made quite the entry as newcomer on the deephouse, nu-disco scene with a first digital release on delve deeper, that s still doing really well in the charts. we re really excited to release these super funky, groovy tracks on beautiful black wax.

a special collection on a limited 2x12 inch vinyl edition including brand new versions of some of the classics of the label in the first ten years.
the package features remixes from some of our favourite artists. the don of chicago deep house ron trent gives his timeless classic touch to without me by tevo howard feat. tracey thorn.
newcomer cody currie looks to better listen records to host his sophomore ep after lighting things up with his debut on pusic late in 2016. the effort is stacked with deep disco stylings similar to that of sample + synth maestros brame & hamo and fouk. its an exquisitely layered effort from the london kid, one which will please the intellect and dancefloor demand equally.
