quartz rec kicks off the new year with >a man lost in time< by fragmentor. the italian, japan-based producer is a resident at mind off, tokyo, and recently started his own imprint follow the flow with a jonas kopp ep for which he delivered a stunning remix. here, he delivers two thumping acid tracks: >a man lost in time< comes first, bleeps and hisses unraveling on a booming kick, followed by >blowtorch< with its escalating frenzied acid lines on the b side. >synthetic rain< the ambient cut closing this ep illustrates even more that fragmentor is a master in creating slowly building atmospheres full of twists and eerie sounds and a producer to watch for. >a man lost in time< will be released on grey vinyl limited to 200 copies on january 21st 2019.

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

francis harris is a founding member of the scissor & thread label a brooklyn-based imprint established 2011 as an outlet for deeper, more personal sounds, as well as music from a range of associated artists including black light smoke, bob moses, frank & tony, dj aakmael, desert sound colony and aris kindt, to name a few. harris own output has gone from tightly wound tech house cuts as adultnapper in the early days, sublime deep house as frank & tony, intricate and expressive musical journeys as evident in his two solo-albums ‘leland and ‘minutes of sleep, and ambient shoegaze with two aris kindt albums, co-produced with gabe hedrick. most recently harris branched out with a new label kingdoms a home for his love of a more adventurous sound. now we are proud to present his new solo single, the first since the release of ‘minutes of sleep, ‘minor formswhich includes two remarkable remixes by valentino mora. more we cannot do is a perfect example of harris feel for depth and dynamics a track that feels submerged in a warm amniotic fluid cocooning the listener in a thick subby bassline, providing much of the groove, with skittering percussion on top and intricate fragments of melody throughout leading to a wonderful moment with live vibraphone provided by new york player will shore. minor forms, the eps title track is cut from similar cloth emerging from a subtly distant place to inhabit a melancholic, beautifully evocative space somewhere between ambient, jazz and the dancefloor. joining harris is greg paulus on trumpet, a long time friend and collaborator adding his signature touch to an already moving piece.

antique fragments ep is the third release of our kommuna tapes imprint. the a side starts with a quirky fast-paced track created by a mysterious producer named schematix in 1997. thinktank, an electro/breakbeat act who signed his first and unique ep only a few years later in 2000, takes us on a punchy yet dreamy techno journey. on the flip side, after schematix undusted his hardware to extract the stems for the occasion, wizard sergio moreira mastered the challenge of creating a slower and deeper version of the track, while upcoming madrid talent javier moreno closes the release with a bouncy acid burner. track by track, we build a kommuna of artists who share our insatiable appetite for music discovery, guided by a certain vision of the dancefloor: deep stripped-down grooves, sometimes challenging, always with character.

japan is our first collaboration. the ambient sounds on this record are fragments from our month-long stay in japan during spring 2015: hundreds of tokyo ravens in yoyogi park, an old song found in an old man s small shop in kyoto, the bird-like traffic signals in naha, okinawa, blending with the distorted voice of a man with a megaphone and a message... back in stockholm, these sounds became documentary elements in our music as well as sources for creating new sounds. the small, beautiful bowl we had brought home went to pieces, and the sonic character of the ceramic pieces turned into a delicate drone.

more than less, started from seoul, south korea, came back with 4th vinyl release “folka ep”, composed by joton, owner of newrhythmic records, based in north spain, leon. he is also part of more than less records, releasing “fragment ep” with soolee remixes in 2014. it had great success and been supported by many producers like surgeon, pacou, dvs1, invite, lakker, paul mac, samuli kemppi, unam zetineb, jeroen search and many more. “folka ep” has two new tracks, called “frontier” and “sendice”. these two tracks are remixed by japanese techno hero, dj nobu, and korean techno pioneer, soolee, again. the “folka ep” represents the conjunction of asianeuropean techno, which more than less has been pursuing. “frontier” has pure anlalog synth sounds with addicted melody line, based on rough sound textures. it’s obviously for the peak time of the dance floor. “sendice” has unique grooves which joton’s trademark and adding rhythmic loops gives numerous dance feelings. “frontier”, dj nobu remixed, gives hypnotic raw sounds and exotic feelings. it has subtle rhythmic factor and people can’t help moving their body. another remixer is, more than less records owner, soolee. it is 9 minute track, consisting with full of hypnotic sounds from the first to the end.

while she may be based in berlin now, shanti celeste has deep roots within idle hands. from working behind the counter when the shop first opened to playing the label parties and co-running the neighbouring brstl label, shanti s contributions to the bristol house music scene have been ever-increasing as she has grown as an artist. having put out our her second ever 12inch,days like this, back in 2014, it gives us great pleasure to welcome her back as an internationally respected producer with a relentless gig schedule and a rich back catalogue of warm, heartfelt dance music that kicks where it counts. shanti s stylistic palette may have broadened over the past four years, but she s also retained a natural, unpretentious quality in her tracks that can span all manner of grooves and tempos. make time certainly chimes with her earliest house productions, but it s also offset by a wistful, meditative maturity. swooping pads, distant vocal threads and delicate fragments of breakbeat flirting in an aqueous soundscape whatever city shes based in now, this is surely deep house infused with a quintessential bristol ruffness. -thoughts- meanwhile speaks more to the artistic development shanti has undergone over the past few years, bearing the influence of melodic techno, electro and broken beat while striking a unique chord in the process. it s a hypnotic, alluring track that eschews basic dancefloor demands in favour of a more intimate headspace shaped out by snaking, polyrhythmic synth lines. both make time and thoughts stretch out over extended running times all the better for losing yourself in the heady atmosphere shanti has created on her very welcome return to idle hands.

xcpt music rises from underground electronic music event series taking place in the suburbs of matera, south italy, as mature development deeply rooted and inspired by the uk 90’s scene. it kicks off with label’s manager and co-owner nothus first release, fragments of loneliness, a 12” limited press coming out in the end of september. his first release illustrates a mixture of breaking beats, jungle vibes and detroit soul textures, coexisting in balance in all the tracks with a special broken beat reshape made by italian artist andrea (ilian tape), one of the most interesting newcomer of european techno scene. label artworks represent specific corners of the beautiful matera city, recently rewarded as european capital of culture 2019, and cradle of the label sound.

the vienna based imprint noiztank delivers the second statement of his design sound manifesto. label head zosima supplies three original tracks accompanied by a remix of industrial-esque pioneer kareem of zhark recordings. a lady from siberia moves around the cutting-edge agenda of current techno aesthetics. driven by an aura of melancholy and depression, only fragments of drama and uncontrolled violence break the stimulus of chaotic stubbornness.

the second release of inkblots involves three great artists deeply active into the international techno scene: the japanese go hiyama and the berlin based duo i/y. on side a, go hiyama’s first track ‘recur’ delivers sinister atmospheres matched with a tough kick and industrial bleepy elements. slow and paranoic drones get in and out contributing to enlarge the sound perception. the second track ‘prop’ introduces elegant hi-hats and strident synths. a captivating kick perfectly embraces the shrill synths waving together with the sharp drum, what remains of the first side is just tense ambients, forewarning the journey is not over. side b smells like a dark club firing up, indeed i/y’s aim is not different at all. ’thesys 0000.001’ debuts with a thin bassline and distorted grave surroundings. the track evolves with clean slap hats sound in an empty echo chamber. deep timbres rise and fall, turning the entire route gently aggressive. the second track is an idm experiment which keeps a trippy approach and the clarity of claps and hi-hats. solid as the first one, ‘thesys 0000.003’ sets itself as an hypnotic but pleasant moment where suspicious fragments quickly appear and disappear: a sparkled trip to be enjoyed anytime but not by anyone.

we are very happy to announce joton for the first album of kickstarting more than less, (aka less n less) the finest underground techno label in south korea. joton is one of great techno producer used to work with many world-renowned producers like ben sims, oscar mulero, pacou, bas mooy, radal and many other. he made some serious tracks and a representative korean techno producer soolee has joined for the remix for joton.

yore returns with yet another deep master piece. javier alvarez, a madrid based producer and proprietor (along with his younger brother dubbyman) of the underground label deep explorer music, brings his relaxed above smoke sound to the yore imprint. in the first of four warm and atmospheric mood pieces, awfully drapes dense synthetic winds over a deliciously grooving, bass prodded deep house pulse. get down does exactly that with five funky minutes of rhodes chords, disco hi hats, and synth swirls, a percolating bass line lends the track a propulsive charge, while crowd voices give the cut a party vibe. on the b sideÆs ôthe fixö javier scatters chopped fragments of the spoken line, i ve got a lot of shit to say and i cant say it all in one day, i cant say it all on one piece of tape, over a funk house groove, after which dubbyman offers variations on the theme in his remix of the track, dubbymans version digs deeper into the cuts bass science and warms the tunes slinky pulse with hand percussion and claps. old school in its embrace of classic house sounds, above smokes ep is tailor made for those who like their material laid back, groove centered, and funky.

hailing from montpellier, rodriguez jr. makes his return to leena with “kids of hula,” bringing the coastal sounds of his hometown along with him. after the success of “rubbo swingo”, his first release on leena, rodriguez jr.—who also comprises half of f communications’ the youngsters—went on to release records for boxer recordings and mothership. on leena’s 11th release, he has returned for a second round, once again displaying his softer side as a housey, psychedelic producer. “kids of hula“ begins on a strongly melodic note with airy, exotic chords leading the way and occasional accents of tropical percussion lining the backdrop. old-school throwbacks also have their place here, as the track climaxes with the use of psychedelic vintage sounds that recall the work of space disco giant lindstrom until they ultimately fuse together with the track’s initial harmonies to create a complex and layered final product. the b-side “pandora” begins with a more stuttered beat and a warbled, static-laced environment. the track reaches its high point with psychedelic sounds comparable to those heard on the a-side that possess a more hypnotic, melodic, and spacey twist. digital exclusive “offshore” fills its landscape with fragments of vocals and high pitched bleeps, blurps, squeals that alternate in time with one another until vintage synthesizers enter the picture. as the track progresses, the old-school synthesizer sounds and vocal snippets unite and begin to work together in unison, by the time the track reaches its peak, the vintage synths have taken on a completely new sound and direction, guiding the pulse of the track until its ending.

good fun horror themed disco lp from germany. featuring members of the boney m family this rare lp first hit our shores in 1977, and has become synonymous with the horror disco lps from the likes of simonettis goblin. containing 7 tracks ranging from even vampires... and dracula goes dreamy which are slower instrumentals, to the more upbeat terror on the dance floor which features bizarre crowd noises and sleazy overtones. the major track on the record, soul dracula has every cliché one would expect from a dracula track: maniacal laughing drrrracu la, catchy background gimmicks that drill themselves into your head and sleazy overtones. this track recently found its way onto quiet villages fragments of fear mix cd!

deep and fresh innovative minimal house/ techno 3 tracker. from the first beat on the bass drives through the stamping groove, tears away vocal snatches and sound fragments like acoustical driftwood and heads straight for the peak. the flip side comes along a bit calmer without being less powerful and surprises with a deep vocal theme. the package is rounded by laufmasche s forensic remix which again reflects his unique style.

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection, the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.
