mr. k turns to the funkier side of disco on the latest 12-inch from most excellent unlimited, working his magic on a couple cuts that still retain the same power to fill dance floors they had back in the day. - love the life you live is one of those rare songs that was big for me when i first started djing, and still jams today,- notes krivit, who gives another stripped-down, bass-heavy edit to the irresistible kool & the gang classic. one for the b-boys as well as the loft heads, mr. k s edit gradually builds on the hard-charging rhythm with a slinky keyboard solo, punchy horn riffs and breaks, breaks, breaks. gary toms empire ruled the summer of 75 with -7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (blow your whistle),- and progressive djs looking for a follow-up soon discovered another mover in the band s repertoire. -drive my car- is a lennon/mccartney cover that bears little resemblance to the original, and indeed most fans would be hard-pressed to identify any similarities at all in danny krivit s reworked version. stripping out the vocals and chorus and leaving just the rumbling low end groove, mr. k s edit motors along for a cool 7 minutes, laced throughout with short change-ups to elevate the energy. both tunes spread over their own sides of a 12-inch to ensure full-frequency clarity and power!

the tel-aviv based label parallax brings yogg and pharaoh together for their 8th vinyl release. it starts off with the epic title track, a laid-back bassy groove surrounded by crispy hits and shifted electrical noises, building up to a climatic second part which fuses a lot of the producers unique soundscapes, all on a hypnotic pounding rhythm section. this is followed by a quirky broken electronica short, -ompti-, chopped-up modular sweeps and lush melodic hints create this uniquely structured a2 track. the b-side starts of with -maurice-, a more direct and intensive techno cut, which also breaks into an energetic – wobbly 2nd section which also features many of their unique sound explorations in a dramatic final section. b2, -abadei- has a deeper buildup approach for most of it, starting from a pure yet uneven rhythm section, and growing into a mass of counterparts and layers of noise and crackle. the ep ends with an unlisted locked-groove, an intense and dirty industrial-techno groove.

emerging producer patrick conway delivers the goods on the second ep to be released on art e-fax. e-fax002 is a selection of submerged breaks, dark and spectral bass grooves and washed out melodies all combining to make release that is as eerie as it is infectious. a producer who describes his influences as being -transcendental meditation, uk rave, sheffield bleep/warp records, carl craig circa the early 90s, silent servant, shabba ranks and joss sticks smoking out the studio-, it s not hard to hear the shadowy, dense smoke and heavy calm that unifies those inspirations.

* big, bad and heavy! two of pinch’s biggest dance floor bangers, remixed by one of uk dubstep’s hardest hitters, kromestar. guaranteed rewinds. * ‘the boxer’ first appeared on tectonic back in 2010, fusing grime and dubstep with tribal drums and tearing squarewave bass. kromestar stays true to the original but switches his stance to swing hard with a left hook, southpaw style. after a moody build up, the intro breaks away into a brief moment of calm, before bass comes out fighting, throwing knock out punches hard and fast. tried and tested dancefloor damage of the highest order. * flip then for an equally dangerous remix of pinch’s deep medi release ‘swish’, from back in 2011. simple, effective and deadly, kromestar gives this classic an update, setting it up for another few years of wheel-ups

frigio consistently plumb the depths of electronics to find new material, and this time the madrid imprint has unearthed, in the murky currents, a real gem. tecwaa is the solo project of york based producer paul fawcett, a musician who discovered his sound in the british warehouse parties of the early nineties and went on to nurture it with movie scores, detroit techno and homegrown electronica. his debut brings together three pieces of original machine music alongside a very special remix. the menacing -the eighth circuit- broods into being. looming synthwork is further darkened by distant vocals, house percussion keeping time in this sinister opener. -mantra & machine- has similar attributes. adopting clean rhythms, the track refuses to sit comfortably in any genre pigeonhole as tecwaa weaves a work of cerebral depth. charles manier introduces the flip with his take on -fervour-, tadd mullinix returning to frigio for the first time since his superb remix as jtc of juanpablo s -dream- in 2010. a funk laden work of hip hop breaks and industrial distortion where manier explores blackened moods and horrorshow grooves. the original of -fervour- closes, showing another side of fawcett s style, bpms drop as foundations are laid bare in this stark conclusion.
