2017 was a serious year for von d, with releases on a number of great labels including our long-format imprint khaliphonic, plus amar, moonshine, lion charge and more. for zamzam, von d has delivered “over” -- a brooding, burning 140 anthem providing serious heat as we head into the dark winter months. “over” features a powerful half-time reggae riddim built from von d’s signature warm, enveloping bass and restrained but powerful drums. tambourine and guiro add flavor while the snares slap, and meekman’s kete drum rocks throughout, adding a swing and live feeling missing from many contemporary in-the-box sound system tunes. melodica and synth skank in unison, underpinning a dizzying spread of analog signals & sonics...

fallow presents his debut ep on the freshly established chow down label 6 typically epic and emotive tracks from the semi-infamous manchester-based dj & producer. on side a fallow serves up 3 gigantic grime instrumentals with all the bravado, theatrics and outrageous samples the genre has to offer. the tracks are as cinematic as they are energetic, weaving pulse sounds, choirs and dreamy sino samples into breakneck dance-floor gear to great effect. on the flip fallow adopts his dj chalice moniker to explore his softer side. still bursting with colour and melody, the tracks are as indebted to sunny dancehall records as they are a raw uk sound. peppering carefree mallets and flutes with angelic chipmunk vocals, chalice still captures the producers unique ear for bold melodies and vivid sounds.

in the midst of the storm brings together two exceptional talents and two generations of reggae musicians. jah9s previous release 9 was critically heralded as one of the most re-freshing reggae albums of 2016. and now, fans will get the fully de-constructed, dubwise version of the album with nine newly recorded dub sessions from the legendary dub master, mad professor. he s renown for hundreds of productions with the who s who of jamaican veteran artist like i.e. lee perry, u-roy, the congos, horace andy, and did also great dub re-mixes for massive attack, sade, depeche mode, grace jones and many more. this release marks the first mad professor title with vp records as well as the first commercial recording of mad professor and jah9 together. the press and media coverage will include interviews with mad professor and jah9. the great original cover illustration is by artist richard nattoo!

momentous album from 1982 building a bridge between roots reggae and dancehall. a conscious compilation with a variety of youth deejays, including lee van cleef, prince hammer & trinity chanting down babylon over a selection of the very best roots radics rhythms.

lucky number seven for good company records is the o.g.ep, roza terenzi s cheekily-titled debut. three tracks of doof-approved club gear from the perth-born melbourne resident, plus a bonus sunday-morning-coming-up megamix from vancouver s jayda g. with a sound like windham hill gone hardcore, this record promises fans from black rock to berlin. after the driving, new age electro of opener the right zone, terenzi declares yeh yeh yeh with a bush-bashing jeep of a bassline, blasting roxanne shante as the posse pile out of the whip & into the function. later, higher place sparks the chalice for a pre-dawn dip into the spirit realm. sometime after that, designated driver (and freakout cult-leader) jayda g takes the wheel, pulling into the church car park with her deep in your soul remix, a piano house kick-on of all three roza terenzi originals. feels good, right?

hanna is the soundtrack album to the 2011 british-german thriller film of the same name, directed by joe wright. the film stars saoirse ronan as the title character, a girl raised in the wilderness of northern finland by her father, an ex-cia operative (eric bana), who trains her as an assassin. cate blanchett is a senior cia agent who tries to track down and eliminate the girl and her father.
the original score was composed by the british pioneers of big beat the chemical brothers, who had 6 number 1 albums and 13 top 20 singles in the uk. nme ranked the album at number 54 in their list of the -61 of the greatest film soundtracks-.
the soundtrack of hanna was nominated for multiple awards and eventually won an alliance of women film journalists award in the category -best film music or score- and a los angeles film critics association award for -best music-.

u-roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed the originator for good reason. bursting onto the jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called ôtoasting,ö which in addition to branching out jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an american genre in its infancy: rapping. on dread in a babylon, his third full-length, he stretches out over traditional roots grooves provided by the soul syndicate and skin, flesh & bones bands, riffing on topics including love (ôrunaway girl,ö a 1975 single released in the uk on virgin records), the bible (ôthe great psalmsö), walking the straight and narrow (ôlisten to the teacherö), and even his take on governmental policy goals (ôchalice in the palaceö). the album finishes with an instrumental version of bob marley & the wailersÆ ôtrench town rock,ö for good measure. u-royÆs style and charisma are always on display, and û as with all of his classic records û the groove rules all. presented on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, itÆs the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in jamaican musical history.
