originally released in ‘06/’07 as the appetizer to only built 4 cuban linx ii, the vatican mixtape series consists of a vast collection of unreleased tracks, wu & solo classics (“shame on a ni**a”, “diesel”, “ghetto boy”, & “yae-yo”), as well as some of rae’s best guest work through the years (“the heist”, “brown paper bag”, & “bump bump”). volume 2 includes guest spots from busta rhymes, nas, az, & wu-tang brethren rza, gza, & ghostface killah. this 2xlp is the first time this volume and series gets pressed to wax, and features completely new artwork for a fresh look

stephen malkmus und seine band haben in über 17 jahren 6 alben veröffentlicht und sich auf unzähligen touren zu einer konstante der us-amerikanischen indie-rock-landschaft entwickelt. auch auf seinem siebten album, “sparkle hard”, zeigt malkmus keinerlei kreative ermüdungserscheinungen, sondern bietet klassische stephen-malkmus-songs mit unwiderstehlicher subkultureller strahlkraft. schon 2015 begann malkmus mit der arbeit an “sparkle hard”. damals gönnte er seinem heimstudio ein technisches update, kaufte elektronische drums und arbeitete gleichzeitig an der musik für die netflix-serie “flaked”, für die er unter anderem den song für den abspann schrieb. alle demos für “sparkle hard” wurden an einem tag im april 2017 aufgenommen und nur einen monat später zusammen mit den jicks in portland im neuen studio halfling aufgenommen. letzteres gehört dem the decemberists-multiinstrumentalisten chris funk, der “sparkle hard” auch produzierte. als gast konnte malkmus kim gordon (sonic youth) gewinnen, die mit ihm das duett für den song “refute” einsang. limitierte silberne heavyweight lp mit zweiseitigem insert und mp3-downloadkarte.

having helped launch the sugarhouse label with his paradise forum brethren, jamie paul gets a chance to show off his talents on his debut 12inch, adding to the labels already impressive catalogue with another swathe of classy house jams with a modern twist. double g definitely sports the chops for the peak of the night, but it s also shot through with a welcome weirdness and a fuzzy warmth that should find favour with a wide range of djs. even so is a more laid back, bumping affair that matches the smooth finish of the a-side, but says something different altogether. label mate maurice jnr meanwhile serves up a remix of even so that nudges the delicate tones in a techier direction
