fade to mind is a both a record label and a movement, a series of club nights and cooperative projects in music, visual art, video and apparel. led by los angeles based kingdom, fade to mind is an injection of the personal back into contemporary club music. sparked by kingdoms longstanding relationships with dallas dj/producer prince william, la-based nguzunguzu and total freedom, as well londons night slugs collective (to which fade to mind will operate as a sister label), fade to mind marks a dramatic genesis of collaboration between the uk and american undergrounds.

left to their own devises to pick what tracks to remix, the individuals own tastes came to the fore. the advent unsurprising opted for the twisted techno killer >eden acid< while cari lekebusch jumped at reworking the crazily tripped out >rz-fun< and alexi delanos low-slung mix of >nightdrive< is beautifully melancholic and deeply intense with fizzing percussion.

minimal wave is proud to present a full length lp by french mastermind philippe laurent. the lp is entitled hot-bip, a pseudonym laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on fraction studio. hot-bip features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80s experimental cassette compilations. laurents music can be described as spacey synthpop, containing much depth and range. it is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. hot-bip showcases laurent’s best musical output from the 80s and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. a limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this lp is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve.

for alec koone, the 20 year old, pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in new york at the time of his first release, >wander / wonder< is a coming of age album that sees him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with. in koone s own words: it s an open ended album, and i think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. it s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a bach cello suite, i see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. it s also an album that should be listened to loudly. wander / wonder is a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it s own making, balanced between the ecstatic wonder referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself, like shards of light flickering through a blanket of fog, and even though wander / wonder is undeniably an electronic album, it feels strangely organic, rooted in nature, synthetic textures and distorted voices harmonizing with an ever present oceanic shimmer. wander / wonder was written and produced by alec koone in new york and pennsylvania. mixed by alec koone and sam haar (member of blondes) in new york city.

with influences ranging from early house and disco to turntablism and techno, dallas, txs brett johnson successfully straddles the line between knowledgable >thinking mans< dj and genuine, primal floor-filler. bretts sound is best known as groovy, bumping house with a hearty dose of techno elements, crafted and mixed in a way that is truly identifiable as his own. over the past ten years brett has released serious, futuristic sounding house music on numerous labels including classic, freerange, lazy days, and bretts own aesoteric and bang the box imprints. denvers full flavor music is honored to have brett on board for its latest release, the someday ep.

limited coloured vinyl pressing. one of my big favourite instra tunes is vicodin (released with lets talk – a dark, foreboding dubstep classic) and it gets a makeover by skudge who are getting mentions everywhere right now. check this track, even the waveform looks f***in dark! skudge warp it into something between dubstep and house but with all the downer-rhythm that really makes this track. along with the remix theres more from boddika in grand prix. short and sweet little hypnotic bounce track with serious dancability.

after being enclosed for several years with his mpcs and synthesizers, josé rico carries out the 5th downbeat 12 inch influenced by detroit and chicago. the record starts with september rain, a classic deep house track with warm percussion, deep synths and a jazzy piano. urtzi reworks it into a mesmerizing theme with spooky synths and a naïve bassline. then its on to stage, with raw drums, hammond and keyboards somewhere between tetrode and deep transportation. the record is closed by ciclico with a super-bass and a catchy melody. absolutely hypnotic. a diverse release for deep house lovers.

>bon tres bien< is the first 12 inch of a young french label based in toulouse and paris: bab musique. the original track by switch groov exp. sounds like an invitation to fly over the world. latin and brazilian influences with a killa jazz funk background. b side consists of a remix by simbad. this amazing french londons based producer and dj released already 3 lps and more than 200 remixes (for gonzales, bugz in the attic, julien loureau…). he offers here deep & heavy material between broken beats, techno and dub.

somewhere between center parcs in nottingham and the white sandy perfection of formentera reside two men dedicated to the art of horizontal dancing. their mums call them ampo and timm (funny names, those notts lads), though we know them by their collective name of coyote. in their minds eye, it is still 1986 and there are leathery looking germans with alarming posing pouches dancing to simply red records on the shimmering terrace at ku club while down the road alfredo is building his legendary reputation at amnesia. apart from the clued-up few, most of the brits are billeted in san antonio where the beers are cheap and the sunburn is plentiful. coyotes music, despite being produced in the east midlands conjures up a world of sun, sea and 80s glamour, while still sounding very much like today.

favourites of everyone from sinden to mary anne hobbs, r1 ryders follow up the excellent full throttle ep with this newie from their self-titled label. mixing grime, tech and ukf perfectly, these tunes will slot into a huge range of dj boxes – the awesome >on your marks< especially, with its lazer-guided synth melodies, heavy wobble bass and funkified drums making it a real standout. the strings n bounce of >cyber< is similarly epic, while the itchy tech-funk of >pop shit off< is frankly begging to have the acapella from ludacris >whats your fantasy< plastered over it – such is the similarity between their bassy stabs and off-kilter rhythms.

hrdvsion may not be the first act we were actually checking out for an irr output but we are not irritated that we found it. with i can t exist our canadian friend successfully strikes the balance between deep housyness and accelerated departure. if you turn the piece of plastic around you find a more typical hrdvsion track celebrating the same magical atmosphere. last but definitely not least the b2 is a fusion-remix by ada that insists on being played in the sunshine.

miles whittaker has been an integral part of the modern love label since its inception in 2002 - as one half of both pendle coven and demdike stare, as well as his own productions under the mlz and millie monikers. after almost 15 years writing music, this is the first release miles is putting out under his own name and marks a turning point of sorts in his production style, or rather, in its sequencing. the facets ep brings together different ends of his production style, unifying elements of the house and techno he s most commonly released as mlz together with the more broken production signatures usually reserved for millie and the darkened tribalism of demdike stare. flawed opens the set with a linn loop from the archives, stretched and slowed down with an intoxicated aesthetic that s somewhere between house and dub, before lustre re-configures source material originally keyed in by labelmate andy stott with a nice line in squashed percussion. primer on the flip extends from a demdike stare outtake and veers off into an analogue drum machine workout, before on the fly ends the set with a recording made straight to mixing desk from an array of mis-wired and malfunctioning drum boxes, contact microphones and samplers, over at his studio the mill earlier this year.

for cadenzas latest output, the imprint serve up something a little different from usual with a versus ep from two astonishingly contrasting yet equally prominent artists within electronic music. no remixes or reinterpretations are to be seen but instead, a meeting of minds between mirko loko and stacey pullen with deux elements. titled in fitting reflection of the combination of swiss born mirko loko and detroit innovator stacey pullen, this two track cut is as its name projects in all musical and conceptual aspects. whilst mirko loko is by no means new to cadenza after releasing his highly praised seventynine album on the label in 2009, stacey pullen is a fresh cadenza artist that the label couldnt be more excited to have aboard…this is >deux elements< the eps first piece is >formulaic mode<, a twisted combination of chaotic clicks merged with underlying melodies and a serene ambience of calm.

ok we can do a long text here... but lets not do that.... fantastic track by recast (aka fluxion)! a blissed-out track that is lush and jazzy! the experience of years of precision crafting dubby tech soundscapes is brought to these tracks, which are grooving house vibes executed in the melodic but quirky manner of isolee or luomo. lorca music is on remix duty here and did a great job with a clattering, skittering groove that is somewhere between 2-step and brokenbeat, the result is heavy and provides a nice alternative to the two recast versions. this is pure techno as we like it... not the banging big room techno, but techno we know from pioneers such as derrick may, carl craig, john beltran, stefan robber and the likes. no shit... this is just one of the most beautiful records we ve heard in a while.

kapitel 2, and once everything is new! the collaboration of talented young producers and skilled heroes of the scene provides a colorful picture of the current sound development of the label in 2011. between tempo throttled, acid infected dancefloorkillers of l kubic and old school groove monsters of tokra thaan in a remix of james flavour up to grinding minimal beats with hypnotic-flashing sounds of trockensaft, to chameleon tracks from swen weber, which welcomes you with a dancehall impregnated beat in a 4/4 beat corset, which is ironed in the course of its construction and stay suddenly like a stomping and snorting steam train in the ear canal. and if then hardy hard mates early nineties rave influences with house vocals and flat-fuzz comes with a ghostly- kicking sampletrack around the corner which is just as hip hop as electro, it is clear, that these pieces are absolute killers of their guild, from the first to the last track, and each of them is conspicuous by its own distinctive aesthetic. originality is all

district of corruption is proud to present a very unique collaboration between dilo and egon orange. dilo hails originally from buenos aires and is known for connecting the two worlds of rock and electronics. dilo is currently living in a perpetual summer, splitting his time between berlin and buenos aires. dilo is running his own imprint, igloo records, and has released on numerous other labels such as we are, minus, clink, unfoundsound, and einmaleins. egon orange made is production debut in 2009 on igloo. egon has also been refining his unique live show for several years. >take me home< is a tech-house gem. strong and repetitive percussion is set against dilos own fragile voice make this a perfect summer storm. we expect you will want to take this one home as the memory of a perfect night out. >röte< is the perfect flip. warm special pads pulse along with deeply hypnotic percussion and bass. ear candy is abundant but this is a no-frills journey. >röte< gently develops with lush analog keys and heavily processed vocal oddities.

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm.
