nice price deal !!! this is dasein, the opening potion of milyoos (aka tommy wilson) debut ep and the second release on subeenas new opit records. dasein attempts to grapple with existence, temporality and substance and what could be a more perfect description of these warped sonics- perpetual motion purely of the moment. multitude makes you feel like a tourist at an off-world bazaar, a strange landscape with a slug-bass bubble undercarriage and inquisitive wide-eyed synths. fayoh leads in with in a harold budd doing house piano before being pounced on by clipped vocal tics and odd blocks of cubist sound all underpinned by a funky beat and quite frankly its gorgeous. if there is a strand of coherence across the ep then its an almost exotic one- these are curiosities, virtual ships in bottles, they are not narrative pieces even if they are in constant motion. only two releases in and opit records is clearly going to avoid easy categorisation- milyoos debut is something to get mighty excited about and i await further transmissions with baited breath...

usa based label steps in time are back with a 3 track release from digisonic, a relative newcomer to the scene but is about to make major moves if these tracks are anything to go by. deep, gritty and hard dubstep akin to the sounds of datsik or excision, dont sleep on this one.

following the success of the midnight express single >danger zone<, robbie m and terry patton continued to search for new sounds. over the next few years the duo would produce dozens of instrumental sketches. terry always recorded these backing arrangements to cassette tapes so they could easily listen to them later in the car. cruising the streets of rock island il, vocalist robbie m would write the additional melodies and lyrics.

filth & splendour are cuasing a bit of a stir at the moment. with their >hot pick< release on cr2 & puerto banus ep, on berwick st, both released last month, kicking up a flurry of intrest in these guys.
next up from them is this techy little deep house number, a strong house vibe runs throughout, with cool melodic riffs and summer feel about it! on the remix is timo garcia - needing no introduction, you know what you are going to get from timo. a more sparse and techno influenced slice of heavenly house music.

a collection of rare and very sought-after underground british disco, funk and soul tracks avoiding the obvious hits that have been on a million cdÆs already. many of these tracks never went beyond a very small local release but have since become very collectable - buying this lot would set you back somewhere in the four figures.
back street brit funk is the latest compilation from dave lee aka joey negro released on the z records label. the double disc album features highly collectable tracks from the late 70s through to the mid-80s with sleeve notes from soul weekender veteran mark webster.

two collaborative tracks from quarta 330 and lv, made when the pair met the day after hyperdubs fifth anniversary party in november last year. these tunes exemplify the kind of meeting of minds where the best of both procucers comes to the surface, as quarta 330s 8-bit abstraction and melodic sense contrasts nicely with lvs characteristic lush figures and shuffling rhythms.

the first new material from tim deluxe in a while and well worth the wait with these 2 heavy heavy club cuts. jack it started life for tim as live jam on his machine drum analogue box of tricks and shows in its energy and swing. mupod continues in much the same vein, all analogue beats and bleeps, big in the boxes of groove armada, chris fortier adn x press 2, and the title was inspired by the lovely little creature shown as the packshot here. last copies !!

clone crown limiteds first one! its jellphonic and zacky funk force throwing some bad ass dirty p-funk influenced tracks so sick that we had to put them out! a-side cut >100 snakes< rocks it like the neptunes could do... dirty and effective! on the more softer side we have >sexxy< that is sexy as freaky can be. both tracks has zff on the mic (backed up by reggie blount and st liquor-ish). and lets not forget the only one! the best cut in years (and for sure on this record) if you are into love songs. serious heat from these funkateers!

anton price is a jazz drummer turned electronic producer and back again. he has his own space-time continuum in which age-old african rhythms co-exist more or less peacefully with signals from the future. where kid baltan plays chess with tom jenkinson, watching logan s run and drinking battery acid. the 12 inch contains 4 new tracks, while the 15 track cd album gives a retrospective on his works. great idea from this nice belgium label to release a 12 together with a full length cd for a super friendly price! limited availability - only 300 of these packages will be sold!

the skinnerbox disco jazz opus >king of spades and marmalades< (album mmxa0903lp) has not even been digested properly û yet these electronic nerds have hurled into work again. first, an own branded synthesizer for abletons collaboration software max4live was developed, and now a new maxi is ready to be out.

parts i & ii of friday 14th were previously released on french label astrolab but these two new versions evolved through playing the track in our live set. while in la last year, we were asked to go into the studio and record something... this is what came from that session. also on the release is a great dubby-proto-house remix from roots unit, and most excellent it is too.

driven by many musical styles both, herbst & blecha spend hours sitting in their small, freezing basement studio, twiddling knobs, djing on weekends and drinking loads of sweet, cheap and sticky orange lemonade. now the work of these two talented producers is rewarded with their first common release. jove is a melodic tech-house piece containing one of those catchy bass lines that will still be sticking in your ear long after the track has finished. well fitting to summer the track ôshilpaö takes you on a smooth trip and will form the perfect transition from your club night experience to watching the sunrise afterwards. the zoo brazil rmx of ôjoveö is a crisp piece that shall evoke your best summer nights you have spent this season. each time the kick drum lets go of your body in a break, you will just get carried away, throw your hands in the air and then fall back into the beat and just smile!

the phenomenal handclap band out of nyc dropped a brilliant debut album last year and first single >15 to 20< was a stand out track. hector works label founder anthony mansfield got the opportunity to remix the track and was so into the tune that he rinsed two versions. while these versions got widespread exposure and distribution from both friendly fire and gomma, anthonys remixes were until now digital only. we want our records! the disco mix is a slower funk version using the catchy vocals over a helping of sweet disco dubûthe punk funk mix uses all the elements of the track and points it for a dance floor!

chris is very happy that his long term friend adam beyer from sweden, who runs the drumcode and truesoul labels (as most of you may know), has contribute to the 10 year anniversary label compilation. chris said >he managed to give me an amazing track that i have already been playing up and down since probably the beginning of last summer<. you have to know that most of these tracks have been collected over a period of at least the last six months. this one from adam is called >antistius< not only is chris out for having international artists on this compilation but also his home base in frankfurt equally has some amazing artists to offer. this track on the b-side is by clr artist and mastering engineer brian sanhaji who has also recently released his album on the label. his contribution to 10 years of clr is pretty phat. this one is called >higgs< and chris had already been playing it, all over the place, with amazing responses.

the third record already by thomas brinkmann on curle. these tracks are taken from his forthcoming album as soul center, the moniker he is best known for. on the flip for the very first time a remix on curles main imprint. its by uwe schmidt aka atom™ aka atom heart aka senor coconut aka about a zillion other disguises. we are very proud to have him on board! we also wanna grab the opportunity to thank everyone that came out to the curle night at maria in berlin with thomas and uwe last week, you were great!

white label/stamped repress! the second release on the m>o>s record label could have been part of hollands rich techno-history, if released when the tracks where made. dating back as early as 1993, these two tracks come straight out of a plastic bag full of sa90 tapes in ross154s bathroom (thats where he plays his music loud) and a cardboard box filled with cassettes rediscovered while moving aroy dee into his way too expensive spacious loft in the historical centre of amsterdam.

james ruskin is considered a veteran producer these days, after co-founding blueprint records in 1996 with richard polson, and releasing a string of classics on blueprint, meta and tresor labels to name but a few. 2009 saw ruskin re-invent his sound, a far deeper bass driven aesthetic, with killer releases on sandwell district, token and the newly reformed blueprint imprint.
