this split lp compiles the output of two closely related bands from, as suggested by the title, the hot, humid and (at the time) socially isolated city of brisbane, australia – an unlikely location for synth-pop and new wave music during the 1980s. prod & the moonbaby were a high school duo experimenting with tape loops, cheap electronics and primitive sampling.. the result is certainly lo-fi, light-hearted and naive, but also charming and the music belies the young age of the musicians. ash in october was in many ways a logical progression of prod & the moonbaby and shared some of the same personnel, but also added some new wave influence through extra instrumentation and more serious, considered lyrics. most of these tracks have never been heard before outside a handful of self-distributed tapes and this compilation was compiled over several years by the artists in collaboration with hysteric and nick mariano (crispy nuggets).

russian producer nocow debuts on rekids with five murky tracks this december. based in st. petersburg, nocow is undoubtedly one of russian electronic musics most remarkable protagonists having released on clone, figure, fauxpas musik, gost zvuk and styrax. recognised for maintaining consistency whilst traversing various sub-genres, nocow is as comfortable producing intricate idm and robust techno as he is calm ambient and melancholic electronica. in soul connection a spoken word vocal mutters over metallic percussion and ominous stabs whilst a dense pad washes over everything. an undulating synth and ethereal effects make up disappear before moving onto syncopated drums and shadowy atmospherics in samaya dolgaya noch. next up, stop is comprised of mesmerising melodies, sturdy kicks and a looped vox until nocow concludes the package with a short 2-step cut titled aesthetic mind.

john morales geht dahin, wo noch kein dj war. das universalgenie aus der bronx, das in diesem sommer resident dj bei defecteds glitterbox-event auf ibiza war und aktuell in londons angesagtem bussey building auflegt, veröffentlicht ein abendfüllendes programm. er präsentiert unveröffentlichte mixe mit klassikern von weltstarts wie donna summer, barry white, diana ross, level 42, cher, teddy pendergrass, eddie kendricks und vielen anderen. satte vier cds oder zwei separat erhältliche doppel-lps ist diese einmalige zusammenstellung lang. john morales legt seit mehr als drei jahrzehnten auf und hat in dieser zeit über 800 remixe produziert. der vierte teil seiner -m+m mixes- ist zweifelsohne sein bislang ehrgeizigstes projekt. 32 stücke hat er seiner komplexen und unverkennbaren behandlung unterzogen und sie so noch einmal neu erfunden. dafür bekam er, was kaum einem dj gelang: man gewährte ihm zugang zu den original-mehrspuraufnahmen aus den archiven. wenn boiler room ihn als einen -der besten produzenten und arrangeure von disco-musik- beschreibt, ist das eher noch untertrieben. keiner mixt wie john morales.
