no tag no food’ is the third 12-inch from philadelphia-based artist m//r (magnetic resonance) and his first on details sound. after releasing 2014’s well-received ‘gathering response data ep’ on great circles imprint and a single on ron morelli’s l.i.e.s., m//r is back with a strong bundle of four tracks, steadily making his mark on the scene of contemporary techno. this record is a proper electronic weapon, from the slowed down pounding impulse of total burner ‘no tag no food’ to the suspended rhythm of atmospheric idyll which brings the listener into a gravity-free dimension.

michigan native dj soko is part of a long line of great technical djs, musical innovators, curators and those who broke key artists and introduced acts that forever changed the landscape of the music scene. sokos ear and ability to put emcees in position for them to shine over the perfect production is never more evident than it is on his debut project released on his imprint left of center. dj soko uses his years coming up in the detroit scene, his experiences djing in his current home (the planet of brooklyn, ny) then blends both of those worlds together seamlessly. the end result is a gritty, boom bap rap album that is equally as soulful and introspective as it is rooted in a blue collar lyrical hip-hop aesthetic. *domino effect* is ultimately brought together by sokos deft cuts and scratches which elevate each composition and make them resonate with listeners even further.

doc severinsen is an accomplished american jazz/pop trumpet player, and as a band leader gained considerable notoriety on the tonight show with johnny carson. like most musicians in the 70s, doc took his shot at the disco and funk sounds of the time, gathered stellar musicians, and released impeccably sounding works. two of these cuts, be with you and shine on me are featured on this release. harvey s unfailing magic touch has yielded two dj-friendly edits with a lot of punch and galactic energy, yet with a velvet undertone. staying true to the mission, the label took great care throughout the production process in order to preserve the quality of the original recordings.

for our first vinyl release emiel zwart has produced 3 tracks and the guys from twr72 (amsterdam, nl) are on remix duty. at the end they managed to create an ep with a great diversity of pure quality techno tracks. erratic sidewalk and thymine with a lightly rawer and harder feel compared to disclosure with a more melodic and hypnotic approach. the remix is built on a continuous driving rhythm with a steady bassline as you can expect from the guys from twr72.

great insight into japanese pop music!

another day , first track of the ep, starts with some radical percussion based house that leads to a gliding deep base, underlined by vocals. in collaboration with gallya on she said , the duo takes it to the deeper level and combines spheric sounding percussion with gliding mallet notes which distinguish the track. afterhour straightness that involves all leftovers to move. last but not least, simone vitullo adds an arpeggiated techhouse-version of another day to the ep. a dark sub surrounded by minimalistic hats and strict but heavy beats bring down the sound of an great acidic house work. definitely an ep to play at dark and dusty hours.

a labour of love and friendship, the camila ep contains two finely-worked originals. the slow, loping, scratchy jnd is a collaboration with close friend jürgen von krebs that brings to mind stl and theo parrish in its interlocking simplicity and off-key accents. ricky g. its not that easy to define the sound of this berliner based italian artist, but he clearly merges different influences together. the opening cuts are quite fascinating for the way they’ve been meticulously built up. it takes off like a soundscape experiment revealing the ambient involvement of the artist, but moves towards heavier structures characterized by elements of dub, mystical chants and solid industrial components. the debut of this album is absolutely great. inner8 brings icy elements together with a kind of dubby rhythm, which on the next song becomes pretty industrial like. it all sounds like a delicious osmosis of sounds and different influences, antezza revealing himself as an inspired sound alchemist.

one of detroit’s most relevant names in modern techno “terrence dixon” joins the modularz roster of producers with his debut ep that features both his terrence dixon name and his alias population one on the same ep. terrence dixon submitted this ep to modularz a couple months back and said to us that he had something special for the modularz label - with the intention of releasing a well balanced ep with deep grooves, stripped down rawness and funky hypno rhythms we felt this would be a great addition to our catalog. we are very pleased to present this release and continue to show our range and our diversity in the techno genre

*what cha gonna do for me* (1980) is arguably the best effort of the partnership with arif mardin. slowly but surely the two began to craft an even more successful and innovative sound. the album peaked at #3 in the r&b albums chart of 1981.
the cover of *we can work it out* gets a brash and funky stevie wonder –style arrangement, with gregory phillanganes doing great synth work. the best song here, *i know you, i live you*, displays brilliant bass and drum.
