berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

solarism is the result of a common fascination for landscapes and a passion for contemplation. after two decades of an unbreakable friendship, we have finally imagined a way to express what contemplation has offered us and how it connects us to the world, describing those experiences through musical compositions, dj performances and welcoming other artists to release their art. here is how markus described his mind’s landscape composing these pieces of music, and it talks more than any description: have you ever thought that you are two people? do you have memories that are so detached from who you are now that you sometimes believe they are not your own? like something you have read or seen in a movie? you wonder who that was, your very own tyler durden? and here he is with a gift from another time when i was another person, living so fast and unconscious that i eventually almost lost the only thing we really have – my life.

following up the inaugural release by glos, escapism 002 is a mesmerizing two- tracker by one of leipzig s most talented producers, talski. he is part of the institut fuer zukunft crew, co-runs dur records and also performs rare live sets together with his friend perm as pandt. soothsayer shows why analogue production skills are still highly appreciated in contemporary dance music. by limiting himself to only a few machines, talski manages to create addictive and reduced tracks that focus only on the essentials. this comes especially apparent on soothsayer i which although stripped back, builds tension, has atmosphere and is driving. soothsayer ii is more evolved. straight enough to keep people on the dance floor, yet with a fragile and melancholic beauty to it, that sticks with you long after leaving the club.

last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo – alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis weren’t often preferred to fist pumping “bangers”. wanting to flex his lovin’ spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in weston’s warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

the fourth laq is proudly made by attic’s owner fabrizio lapiana. his melodic techno taste is employed into each track moving from hypnotic hard strings of the “cold in summer” to the sour and acidic groove of “acid smiles” (both on the first side). in the b-side fabrizio goes into more hypnotic and obsessive sound. a sort of progressive-techno vibes served to people who never-stop dancing.

the europe-centered techno scene might be thinking: where is techno in a city as vast, dynamic and electric as new york? it’s alive and well, and keeps growing through aptly-named new york trax. founded in 2016 and based in brooklyn, new york trax is an outlet for new york music, by new york artists, in new york city. new york trax 02 was written by boris brenecki (ontal, impulse controls), who has recently relocated to new york, starting a new chapter in his life and artistic career. this record is the very first material he produced in new york, heavily inspired by the city and its people. ‘the oven’, with its continuous filthy groove intensified by metallic percussions, is a serious candidate for an instant classic and a deadly weapon when used on a dancefloor. the grittiness of “the oven” was depicted through images of the less beaten paths of new york in a well-received official video published recently by the label. dark yet insanely dynamic “transit system”, based on field recordings of the new york city subway, opens with a bang the b side of the record, followed by “strictly hardcore”, a sonic manifesto of brutality. get it while it’s hot!

patrick wade, better known as dead horse beats is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist living in montreal, canada. since the release of his first album in 2011, wade has garnered attention for his unique brand of hazy, rhythmic, soul-styled creations, and energetic live spectacles featuring a slough of live instrumentation, electronics and guest performers. after the release 2015 s acclaimed single people lp and a brief stint with london s black butter records, dhb partnered with brooklyn based bastard jazz recordings for his premiere vinyl pressing - the fall 2016 release of bad hopes ep. bad hopes is the culmination of a new, fully realized sonic direction for dead horse beats, inspired by the sounds of the montreal scene in which dhb is embedded, equal parts glittering r&b, and undeniable deep house inspired soundscapes, fusing fully on bad hopes, alongside friends and collaborators frase (vocals on she said) and jason simpkin (additional production and instrumentation throughout) dhb blends his voice and lyrics with bassy grooves, lush synths and sharp, angular percussion into a cohesive, rolling soundscape.

rroxymore’s music is an intriguing, one-off blend of contrasting textures - organic and synthetic, icy and warm - a fresh step in dance music. real name hermione frank, the french musician and producer has a long history making music in various ways, with various people, before settling in berlin and concentrating on the solo project that refines it all.

with half a century of existence, beninese band poly-rythmo can easily be considerate as legends of the african music alongside sela kuti and tinariwen. drawing their name from the extensive mix of influences that forged their sound (american soul and funk, nigerian afrobeat, french chanson, congolese rumba, etc.), they are known to be impressively productive as they released from 1969 to 1980 hundreds of eps and dozens of albums. in 2014, orchestra conductor florent mazzoleni visited the band and decided to produce this new album recorded in the legendary african studio satel. with its warm tone and mastery of rhythm variations, madjafalao will instantaneously become a classic of afrobeat and poly-rythmo will share their warm joie de vivre with thousands of people during their european tour starting in late october.

ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the shimmy sham sham sessions. when people talk about summertime vibes its most often associated with the obvious: good weather, sweet drinks, waterside locales, and a much-needed departure from the daily grinds of work, school, and off-season doldrums. one thing most tend to overlook however are the smells. it’s the smell of the summer season that really infects the spirit being attacked by the olfactory seducing aromas of suntan lotions, watermelon, ck one summer spray overuse, piña colada mixes, bbq grill emanations, and perhaps most importantly of all, sweat. dripping, oozing, sticky buckets of lovely sweat everywhere. whether that is happening poolside, in the bedroom, or, as the case clearly is with this ridiculous three-tracker of party bombs, on the dance floor. the whole wide world of disc jockeys now have access from everything to dont stop the music a slick power wash of classic french disco, to a rollicking jazz piano-led jam by an operator hereby known as professor twirl-hair. in the heat of the night, let those sweaty numbers melt your worries. no top hat and gator shoes required, just shake that ass!

the turbo debut from gilmer galibard is a collection of four dark, visceral techno floor-destroyers from a young canary islands-based producer about whom we know relatively little. it also marks the labels first release to feature a swear in the title, offering a foreboding glimpse of the paranoid machine-driven warehouse terror contained within. by now you will have heard the demo in its entirety and are still dancing whether you want to or not. for my purposes, you will use the search engine optimization terms dark, visceral, techno, floor-destroyers and paranoid machine-driven warehouse terror to ensure that it finds its way to the 83 people who need to hear the release through this specific channel. you may tell people i am 26 years old and from the canary islands both facts are true and sound comforting enough but as you now know this does not matter. print this in its entirety and leave the release title unchanged. i would say ive said too much but that is impossible because as youve come to understand all of this has already happened.

in the month june of 2011, karton saw its gaily arise and nestled itself in the prism of deep electronic music people nowadays know as deep house, tech house and other minimalistic still unknown sub-genres. determined to do it right instead of wrong, the label has pursued their hunch in the on going quest of being a cool, fresh new imprint. this quest has made a path for karton, which has made them hatch music for certain styles of nightlife.

lars von licht’s -from arrows“ is exactly one of this sort: an almost 15min live jam, both simple and sophisticated. a track for special moments and for special people, perfect for reanimating supérieur. one of the frst persons whom i gave this tune last year s summer was lee burridge, who played it straight away at burning man. admittedly, this release took some time, but we wanted to fnd the right moment and the right remixer. we considered many options but came back to one of our own people in the end. dodi palese who released his connaisseur debut earlier this year, felt like the right person to challenge this track and we were right. he has transformed it into a tribalistic high energy bomb, with an unexpected, big synth theme, blowing you away. yes, we are more than happy about this release and it was well worth the wait.

funk was the syncopated groove that emerged in the mid-sixties through hits from james brown and dyke and the blazers. it was a natural development out of rhythm and blues. thousands of local bands tried to emulate brown’s success, and in the process created a plethora of rare and sought after 45s and album cuts that have been mined by djs and producers to fill floors or provide breakbeats. whilst the 20 tracks on this compilation would cost you thousands of pounds to own on their original issue, that isn’t really the point. instead you get to listen to magnificent grooves such as mickey & the soul generations explosive ‘iron leg’, andrew brown’s blues tinged ‘you made me suffer’ or the message music of 24 carat black.
j&d records release three exceptional compilations that look at vintage african-american music through the prism of uk club culture. all night long, can you feel that beat and extra added soul will be available on double vinyl and are compiled by dj and award winning compiler dean rudland, with stunning artwork from his long-time collaborators the unknown. across the three volumes there are 60 tracks of soul, funk and boogie.

south african born, new york living brendon moeller, man of a thousand guises - including beat pharmacy, echologist and mono blanco - is a prolific producer known especially for his hard yet dubwise brand of techno. founder of the prolific steadfast label, moeller has releases on a number of excellent imprints including echocord and soul people. for zamzam, beat pharmacy indulged his deep love of heady dubwise, crafting two totally unique and uncompromisingly experimental tracks that provide a window into a singular creative soul.

mr tophat, an enigmatic swedish house head whos awkward grooves and unconventional arrangements has heads nodding across the universe. from another dimension ep was inspired by his addiction to the club tracks that music for freaks originally released, with rob mellos no ears dub version of discorobot in his top 10 tracks of all time. here, mr tophat generously serves up 3 of his textbook trips down the rabbit hole. this is entertainment for the freakiest of people. aliens from another dimension is a squeeky adventure in sound, navigating the inner workings of mr tophats imagination and penchant for sci-fi. prophet funk is a chugging, progressive slice of hip house surrealism. its quirky call and response melodies and gawky vocals are straight out of an episode of the twilight zone. new release information message to the stars is a love song to the multiverse and the stars that reside within her. a funky breakbeat is underpinned by discordant melodies and lead lines that resonate with the head and the hear
