the focus energy / motive order twelve inch takes seamss lush electronica in a new direction. having captured the essence of the berlin summertime with the tourist ep, seams returns with and altogether more dancefloor orientated release. driven by a desire to make audiences at his live shows dance, a much more propulsive sound manifests itself across the two tracks, both built from the same ingredients but taking them in two very different directions. focus energys minimal percussion and vocal stabs pushes seamss sound further towards the techno production hinted at in hung markets, whereas motive order rearranges focus energys parts into a much more dense wall of sound, filled with arpeggios and noise, evoking the sound of the border community fold.

this is one of those timeless tracks that you still hear played out today. when it was released, orbit 1.3 was played by pretty much every representative of the tech-house sound - it featured on mixes by craig richards & lee burridge, doc martin, dj garth, sean cusick, dj three, and many more besides. not only that, but its appeal spread as far as the progressive fraternity and those of more traditional house sounds. its a deep throbbing epic with a haunting vocal sample and that indescribable >x factor< that makes a classic track.

dj deep is know as one of the key players in the french house and techno scene for many years now! recently he found some old recordings on dat tapes. going through these tapes he heard several tracks that somehow still sounded fresh!. after listening he got fascinated. he describes some of the cuts as raw and somehow naive tracksand as something naive, authentic and honest. so here we are... with a nice piece of wax that has 2 great tracks produced around 1994-1997, and 2 solid 2011 remixes. rootstrax comes with an excellent mix that is an emotional deep take that really captures the emotion of the original and brings it to a much more mature and deep territory. the marcelus mix gives us a much more radical, uncompromising techno interepretation. another stunner on deeply rooted house!!

trio techno cover, it was just a question of time to reach the point when wayne considers himself to be the one to create a musical statement in order to show what he thinks about all the current status of some parts of the electronic dancemusic circus. he still suffers from too much so called >minimal< in his eyes and he wants back the energy he is missing on many occasions… >you know, techno without bass is like f…… without screwing him in…< some might say he s too late with this song, but thats simply wayne! in his universe the meaning of time is different to what we all would expect. anyway, he finally checked out garage band on the mac he recently >lended< from somebody he does not even know, and here we go with his first very own song. lyrics in german only and heavily inspired by one of the biggest hits from the 80ies from the german cult-formation >trio<, but to make a long story short: its waynes message that the so called minimal sound is definitely over now: >always klick and always klack, i can not tell how much it sucks...<

for the first album ever being released on ki we invited biodub, a producer/dj from the north of germany, who impressed us with his fusion of dub, techno, electronica and is a musician throughout. bringing in his experience as the drummer of instrumental band noetics and based on a minimalistic foundation, his tracks are playful in a microscopically way. in between deep bass lines and characteristic dub chords, various sounds coming from field recording sessions and sometimes also acoustic instruments, making this piece of music extremely warm and alive. biodub tries to transform visual impressions into his music. he finds most of these impressions in nature but sometimes also in machines or buildings in connection with their environment. the album is equally comfortable on the dance floor as in the living room. but you would rather enjoy his music on an open field in the nature than on your couch. the album will be released as a full 2 x12 inch lp, and cd in folded hardcover with photography, graphic and layout coming from ki s amélie kai and since it leaves so much space for interpretation, there will be a 12 inch-single with remixes of stereociti and koi.

following his two recent singles on scubas hotflush recordings, london based george fitzgerald is back with his much-anticipated third release and his debut for aus music. titled silhouette, the three-track ep includes two originals and a remix from american producer john roberts. fitzgerald once again manages to create a world in which garage, dubstep, house, r&b and a host of other musical influences happily co-exist. on silhouette hints of warm acid, layered oscillating synth lines, propulsive beats and fitzgeralds signature use of vocal samples make this a peak time affair, albeit an incredibly lush one. reset is eight minutes of forward thinking uk garage combined with the melodic sensibilities of detroit techno. for the silhouette remix, roberts develops a relentless broken groove, occasionally punctured by brief piano interludes that recall the sounds of his 2011 debut full-length on dial records, glass eights. a breathtaking remix that sounds like nothing else out there at the moment. in addition to silhouette, fitzgerald currently has remixes out for french house producer brawther on secretsundaze and uk bass artist throwing snow, as well as an upcoming ep on hotflush and a track on the labels recent compilation, back and 4th. this year will also bring the founding of man make music, a new label fitzgerald is starting with friends.

spring 2006 was both cruel and exciting. radiating hot helsinki nights, too much light and vivid, restless dreams about music. while chucking down a glass of cheap brandy in a local bar the idea finally materialized: lets start a record label! a label that would bring people together. proud people. people thinking of music. people doing their own thing in their own way in their own basements. and most importantly, people who understood the meaning of space between notes. after 5 years, 16 records, 85 tracks and 44 artists from 13 countries it goes without saying that those restless dreams became reality. and so did the music.

subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most djs, but there is much more the métier of germany s gregor tresher than simply playing records, as lights from the inside attest: just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on gregor s stunning third full-lenght artist album reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the frankfurt resident. not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat, develop and intertwine in different patterns. in this regard, lights from the inside harks back to gregor tresher s earlier releases, but as always his sound aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.

simoncino (aka nick anthony) from italian super edit label no more hits crosses the atlantic and finds a new home with on the prowls sub-label party breaks. what immediately stands out upon first listen is the production style, not being able to tell what is a sample and what has been replayed... much like tensnakes mega hit. the simoncino sound is firmly rooted in proto-house and 80s r&b. with ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and cheap 80s pads, his concoction boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. all four tracks are subtle hits in their own right. excellent ep!

when your debut dubstep track has a clip posted on the ukf dubstep youtube channel and it racks up over 500.000 plays in 2 weeks, people take notice. for xilent, this was exactly how his track >choose me ii< announced itself to the world. shortly after ukfs patronage (alongside subfocus dropping a beta version in a much blogged guest mix), zane lowe started playing the track on his radio 1 show and suddenly xilent is making an almighty noise.

kubrak, one half of dynamic production duo utopia, previously featured on brd003, with his solo effort ‘fast forward’. cementing his name as one of the emerging artists to keep your eye on in 2009, kubrak has gone one step further to unveil his first solo release on breed 12 inches. yet another russian (one of 5 to appear so far on breed’s back catalogue), kubrak captures the industrial movement of his home country, in such a manner that results in a legion of fans. unrelenting, much like his homeland, his production output is in your face, whilst keeping your feet firmly planted with inventive and progressive melodic based arrangements.

cesar merveille first joined the cadenza team in 2009 with the outstanding ep. descarga, produced alongside fellow artist pablo cahn and garnering high critique from industry and public alike. a well known and much loved figure within candenzas vagabundos ensemble and equally the international club circuit, it is with great pleasure that cadenza welcome cesar for his debut solo release on the label. maayancholy is a beautiful and heart wrenching record, showcasing the delicate and fiercely musical palette of the french producer. introducing with shimmering open cymbals. light and airy they rustle simultaneously and offer diversity via their multiple manipulation. unsettled and sporadic, they splash throughout the remainder of the piece in an ethereal manner, casting light over delicate steinway piano keys and stabbing muted chord sequences. argentinean artist guti composed the aforementioned piano, his jazz and pianist training clearly used to full degree on maayancholy with simplistic singular key arrangements and piercing chord sequences. as the ascending chords rise, they dance magically alongside the pitter patter of percussive drums in a stripped back and raw demeanour. maayancholy effortlessly lays bare the emotive side of merveille through this ambient and surprising track. luciano picks up the remix duty for with a 16 minute interpretation. as condensed cymbals and piano chords are electronically warped, urgency prevails and groove sets in, securing lucianos twisted version as the perfect companion for the simplistic original. pace quickened and intensity sharpened, luciano demonstrates the clear dance floor attributes within . maayancholy in an electronic reinterpretation fit for the floor

with the toughness of detroit house and the weirdness of chicago acid, scotch absolutely destroys all the dancefloors! richie hawtin newcomer allì borèm jumps headfirst into digital-age hedonism, with these two reduced, swinging cuts that have all the abandon and humour of a late night lock-in. this gentleman hails from rome, where he cut his teeth in recording studios across the city and as a dj has been responsible for plenty of discoteca mischief. expect these two playful, bleepy, bouncing tracks to give you much joy on the dancefloor.

once again, with spring, comes another addition to vakants fruitful and ever expanding family. we welcome the man formally known as cesare vs. disorder, for the first time releasing under his given name cesare marchese. in such a short period of time, cesare has amassed quite a discography and legion of fans around the world who follow him wherever he goes. yet another formally trained musician in the vakant camp, cesares music has progressed a great deal since his first release in 2006. every release drips with more and more depth and melody. his aether ep debut for vakant yet again proves why cesares accent is unstoppable. while just a 4 track ep, the aether ep covers much ground spanning afterhour afternoons to indie influenced incorrigibility, but always with that certain kink and freak that comes from a background of techno and global trotting nightlife revelry. to say deep and freaky would not be enough. to say anything would not be enough. these are tracks that must be experienced and not written about. from complete house electronics, to altered acoustic uplifts, to deep orbit accents, its all here courtesy of our new sicilian cesare

breakin bread continue to support the specialist soul and funk scene with a release from edenheight. they are not a new band, these guys have been gigging hard all over bristol and the south west, but it is their debut vinyl release. its not just another new funk offering, the band have a tightness from all the gigs and 2 superb female vocalists that make these tracks stand out from the pack.
edenheight are a deep-groovin and original outfit with a soulful urban sound. forged in bristol, their list of influences favour more percussive styles including afro, funk, hip hop + dub, and as such dance-ability is a precedent. this standard owes as much to an evolution in the citys underground live scene as to their appreciation of high energy musicianship and production.

another month, another cool and unique r&b sound from the jukebox jam series! this time around, we feature 40s songstress with a really superb low-slung and slinky number. making its first appearance on 45rpm vinyl, >shrinking up fast< is bound to set pulses raising with its hot and seductive jazzy feel, mambo rhythm and wailing horns. yet another record which sounds not so much ahead of its time as occupying another realm altogether! the flip side >please dont stay away so long< is a worthy effort in its own right - a breezy jump blues side which also rotates around a loosely latin influenced rhythm. but as good as it is, >shrinking up fast< is the clear winner for us, an awesome, slow-burning scorcher which we are proud to be able to finally make available on dj friendly 45rpm - its going straight in out box and we would urge you to follow suit!

after taking a break for more than 6 months bukaddor & fishbeck return with 2 quality tracks. >camino< unites tight and loose aspects in an exciting modern way of club music. the track works on more than one level and incorporates silly little ghosts of sounds and massive basslines and last but not least: a lot of profound sound shaping. >physx< on the b-side is much more warped, moves in way of a snake, does is surreal dreamlike and still makes these brave cuts that throw you back into life. at times this track seems to be quite dadaistic and maybe this accounts for the most experimentell track they have ever released... but it would not bukaddor & fishbeack if this track did not have a atchy clubby side to it.

part iii ? manipulation musik. manipulation musik is the darkest and most cinematic piece on this collection of eps. delicate manipulated melodies and melancholic strings moves in and out of a crackling and distorted soundscape, telling an experimental sound tale with a sad ending. on b-side redshape (present, delsin) makes a remix solely using sounds from the original. redshape described his tape dub version like this: ?think disco dub, plonk & pain?. not much to add to that ? it kind of says it all. enjoy!
