figure 86 finds the label’s headmaster revisiting a dormant classic from 2005, delivering two extended excursions that pick up on the lunatic vibe instilled by the original while each mix provides for a uniquely new experience. sitting on the record’s a-side is the hardspace mix, a sparse and bone dry rhythmic affair, built around the originals characteristic cut-up vocal sample. a hammering thump carries along the track relentlessly, the air of oppression created only amplified by a heavy assault of clangig claps. the digital bundle comes with an even more stripped-back hardspace tool version, making it an excellent surprise to throw in and out of mixes. on the flip faki takes opportunity to show us one of his lesser known sides, taking time to gently develop this deepspace mix into a meandering meditative journey. trading in the vocal for a spaced-out synth opens the track up for the shifting tribal drums to truly work their magic and makes this piece of music feel equally mysterious as it sways with cosmic energy.

the fifth modern cathedrals release by altstadt echo seeks to exhume genuine, complex, and often contradictory human emotion from dead samples and broken beat structures. throughout the 1905 ep, the artist crafts melodies that embody a tension between nostalgia and frustration, supported by carefully textured and relatively functional percussion. the remix of dry despair by abdulla rashim (ar) strips the original of its lofty chords, instead pursuing a focused and bone-dry experimental techno approach. in contrast, the remix by stave combines elements of the original’s drifting atmosphere with violent industrial percussion.

paul woolford has been seriously spreading his wings of late, becoming omni-present by landing his tracks with ease on labels like xl recordings, running back, houndstooth, hotflush and aus music. not wanting to be shackled by genres, paul comfortably serves up a wide variety of curveballs, from the technoid charge of his 4/4 persuasions to the exhilarating warped hardcore & jungle breaks of his much loved special request project. and so it’s with welcome arms that edible usher him to our release schedule, give him the comfy sofa and let him rip it up with two havoc-inducing cuts that are already a staple in label boss eats everything’s dj sets. title track ‘chaos’ finds paul in a particularly warped mode, bleepy synth pulses oscillate wildly over a granite hard beat as a single sub-bass tone drives the brain-scrambling flurry of modular tones into overdrive. a hydrochloric synth riff settles the bed, but only until the next haul of chaotic blips come firing out of the speakers - highly effective, and possibly deranged warehouse tackle. a future classic. flip side, and woolford shows off some decidedly more soulful chops on ‘meditate . a vocal hook plays against a dubwise bass line and ascending 909 rides, as a seductive and transcendental string arpeggio creeps to the fore and demands a breakdown of its own, serving up a serious bucket load of emotion. not a dry eye in the house.

since 2015, james welshs contribution to phantasy as kamera has delivered a series of releases shrouded in mystery, injected with the personal energy of both a hardcore and club heritage. two eps, arc and ventoux, set a distinct tone, with the latter complimented by head-turning remixes from artists such as george fitzgerald, throwing snow, truncate and yaleesa hall. now, the key phantasy artist emerges from the shadows under his own name, in order to continue his uncompromising musical journey. returning with a new, two-track ep, standing/slip captures the finely tuned tension and euphoric release of welshs sound in arguably its strongest form to date, showcasing not only the dancefloor mettle firmly established under his prior alias, but a new sense of wistfulness that coaxes his typically outstanding machine work into altogether more reflective territory. standing throws listeners headlong into welshs formerly anonymous industrial complex, generating a churning, relentless rhythm offset with a dry female vocal that recalls the sardonic stance of vintage electroclash. following this, slip is an initially unexpectedly spectral diversion, transmitting a curious synth line into space, and receiving a choral, sombre frequency in return. without losing its emotive qualities, the track succumbs to a hailstorm of welsh’s sharp, potent drums, before collapsing in understated catharsis.

pl007 is the beginning of a duo with praymond and thomas murphy. it all started by setting up a temporary music studio in an old farm made of stones in the french countryside during the heat wave of summer 2016 in france first, plug a microphone and start recording a couple of dry leafs crunched with gentle hands and mixed with the sound of ice cubes tingling at the bottom of a pastis glass add to this some brushes played on a newspaper and fingers banging on the edge of a kalimba, then finally, build around with your drum machines and analog synths. the result is a classy brand a alternative minimal techno, mixing acoustic rhythmics and relentless swing. none of the tracks were designed for massive big room type techno with big drops and never ending build ups but more for human size bounding experiences and never ending after partys. both slow burning tracks have in common a introspective quality, specially les cailloux but both tracks remain solar in essence.cadillac has a more gold tooth & chains attitude to it and could remind the listener (if he ever had the experience) of being on the run in a get away car, stepping on the gas, crossing the desert with an open roof top after robbing our dear financial institutions

“devotion - part 2” is the continuum of the journey into sciahri’s dimension. the atmosphere here is as thick as it is unsettling. leading the way, a dry, chunky aural flow that begins with “shelter” and then rarefies, taking a more angular yet diffused pattern with “contortion”. the ending “lineage” then throws us in a mass of fog, a state of uncertainty where only hints of a beat are given.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

after 15 years of recording music albert van abbe releases his debut album on self-titled label vanabbe. 9 signature deep & dry minimalist techno trips using small prepared piano fragments. you wake up on a gold-embroidered divan in the middle of a desert with nothing but a worn canvas stretched between two lonely palm trees to shield you from the blazing sun.

marathons began innocently, as a quick debut ep by an energetic swedish duo we found on soundcloud. within a couple months of chatting with the pair, artur bra&#776,,ndstrom and egil kahlbom, however, we realized our collaboration wasn t going to be simple, so cut and dry, so straightforward, and that s why we find ourselves here, a year after meeting them with a full album, not an in-and-out single, on our hands. what made it complex and intricate, you ask? why d we opt to squeeze eight originals into one long-player, you wonder? well, artur and egil are prolific dudes with fantastic ears and formidable work ethics. a couple of demos quickly sprouted offspring and became four, then six, then ten. rather than fight the arbitrary desire to trim the spread down to a 12inch, we figured we d aim higher and work on a proper album. what we constructed is, in a very classic sense, a long-player. here s that album! it s a sunny, loose, limber, uninhibited boogie through warm disco cuts and wobbly house jams and soulful funk slices. daytime chill-out with a nightclub architecture—or peak hour mayhem with a bright, clearheaded euphoria. marathons swings every which way and suits any mood, so drop that needle and try it on. then repeat, repeat, repeat.

if we put armando, gene hunt and steve pointdexter together in a room with a few synthesizers, some rhythm boxes, a roland 606 and a few cans of beer, what we would get is shrimp traxx. this very young, practically unknown austrian artist has just made his recording debut on bons records with five tracks that range in style from classic to trippy, psychotic acid house. these five jam sessions, made 100% using hardware, are now appearing on the catalan label. after an ep with a markedly 90s house sound, bons records is now turning towards more ghetto vibes with a record to be spun and danced to exclusively in a house club. this is not warm-up stuff!

tetsumasa’s debut ep “asa” on his own saidan label. solid sounds between savage broken rhythms somehow feels urban, flat and texturally dry. various sound components such as dub, noise, bass music and ambient are mixed within and thus creating unique sound world. it is expectable from his irregular beats that one of his music roots is abstract hip hop. “asa ep” has a remix from mogano, the owner of berlin label arboretum. tetsumasa doesn’t need a concept. this is his own sound pieces you can experience a variety of sensations.

keita sano is part of japans new wave of music producers and hes been on our map since a very long while. with releases on lets play house, mister saturday night, 1080p, lower parts, row, strictly groove recordings, enother blessing, holic trax and spring theory keito hes not only not unknown to us but has shown his eclectic taste and zany approach to music at home and aboard. and his first 4 track ep offering for yours truly does proved that once more so . the okayama resident has been weaving his way through house, techno and electronica releases displaying an affinity to old school processes and vintage gear which you can hear in every bit of his classy unmistakable sound. raw, rugged & slightly alarming but dry and focused to a massive funk attitude, is this the actual big room underground- however, be it the top or water dripping cellar floor this is modern analogue techno at its most stringent and hey theres a full album it coming later this year. all available on full pupps techno not techno-offshoot rett i fletta!

resopal presents the sonic love-child of vienna based producer disabnormal. floating on a lazy groove, the title track sounds like the haze of being in love. sexy and deep and interlaced with an acidic bassline. space bedouin is muddier and full of eerie, echoing keys and disembodied vocals -- while hiccup drives again with dry snares and acidic elements.these tracks have a deep dynamic, all produced with a remarkable flow and energy.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.
