fresh 2010 repress !! historia y violencia is a new project exploring the hispanic roots of santiago salazar (dj s2) and j. mendez (silent servant). both producers dissect their latin upbringings as a cinematic theme to create snapshots of the day-to-day blood and sweat that has shaped them as individuals. the sound takes cue from detroit, berlin and chicago to create classic, deep dancefloor tracks. santiago salazar started djing in the early 90s inspired by mix tapes his brother was bringing back from the gay underground scene in los angeles. his style has always been a mixture of house and techno. after moving to detroit, santiago began his music training with mike banks, label founder of underground resistance. he is also half of the duo ican (ican productions / planet e) who have been responsible for some killer techno releases. the central american born j. mendez cut his teeth as jasper in the late 90s/early 2000s, running the california-based cytrax label. a veteran dj from the age of 16, he has performed worldwide in clubs from berlin to osaka. along with technical wizards kit clayton and sutekh, he helped shed light on the small but influential minimal techno scene on the west coast. a chance meeting with karl oconnor in 1999 established a friendship that would later open the door to the sandwell district label in 2006. silent servants sound is a reinterpretation of early 80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of basic channel and downwards.

the waiting is finally over! after all the ups and downs of the past year, we can happily report that joshua eustis now firmly intends to continue telefon tel aviv as a solo project. in order to mark his decision with a bang, thewonderful title track >immolate yourself< is being released as the second single from the current lp. the song has been entrusted to highly acclaimed and diverse remix artists who have skilfully stripped down the epic album track to more club-friendly formats.
the a side is delivered by label-mate thomas muller, whose finely detailed techno soundscapes can now be enjoyed on five bpc 12 inch releases. his >immolate< remix takes a much more direct approach. he reduces the lush arrangement of the original to a powerful basic framework, leaves out the vocals almost entirely, and creates a surprise when the track crumbles into sonic chaos towards the end.
miss fitz aka maayan nidam has had singles released on labels including raum musik and freak n chic, and these have been remixed by renowned artists such as ricardo villalobos. her version of >immolate< also makes a clear break from the album track and serves up her very own brand of abstract, dancefloor-friendly house. once again, all the opulence of the original is thrown overboard, a dry beat is placed at the centre of the arrangement and enriched with sinuous vocals.
ben klock needs no further introduction - he is the epitome of the bleak, hard minimal sound. his album >one< is currently available on ostgut ton, and as a remixer he has earned the highest acclaim for his version of depeche modes >peace<. bens >jack mix< is fittingly titled and lives up to all the expectations of the name. the track is stripped back to a resounding, hammer-like beat framework - minimised for maximum effect.
bpitch legend sascha funke delivers a surprise with another astoundingly reduced remix, at least by his standards. he turns away from the melodic richness of his current album >mango< in favour of repetitive fragments and an extended arc of tension which will surely make his >immolate< remix a massive after-hour hit.

from the studio of scott grooves... modified suede... music that you can feel. great selection of basic house tracks in the vein of his recent scott grooves release on clone (coco brown). this is a special tribute to clean simple rhythm tracks and scott grooves shows that being one of the first techno musicians on the planet doesnt have to mean that the passion for pure dance music has to disappear after so many years in the music bizz. excellent collection of tracks that lean towards classic house music, but with that fresh simple approach of many of the new school house producers! very much recommended!

support from andre rozzo, alex jones, so inagawa, jamie jones, matthew styles-harris, laurent garnier, steve lawler, nic fanciulli. luna records is a new uk based label from respected club promoter/ dj/ producer paul bowen, the man behind middlesbroughs infamous >riff raff< events. the label is set to release music from some pretty well established artists with an emphasis on stripped back chunky house music and in that vein the debut single sees the much hailed german producer chris lattner step up get the imprint firing in the right direction. lattner has been djing for the best part of two decades, initially gracing the decks at hannover techno parties before word of his talent spread, seeing him strike out to play across germany. he has hosted a radioshow for australias pulse radio, worked as a booking agent for lessizmore and has had releases on labels such as einmaleins musik and wba. his passion for electronic music has shone through in everything he has done and led him to produce some great records, to which can now be added the luna debut >memory<. this single release kicks off with lattners original of >memory<, a solid tech driven slice of house with heavily effected vocal samples and a simple floor shaking groove. this is understated underground house music at its best, deep chunky and highly effective. first of the two remixes comes from ex-peace division man justin drake, who builds on the vibe of the original, thickening out the drums and layering some heavy filters over the sythn stabs to great effect. a straightforward and highly effective arrangement provides everything that is needed in this excellent reworking. finally we have a remix from bearweasel, who have been providing choice cuts in house music over the last year via labels such as tsuba, supernature, bloop and murmur. for their >lazy dub< they take things back to basics and turn in a slab of deep and dubby house with an emphasis on razor sharp percussion and earth moving bass. this is a superb debut from a label that is sure to become a major fixture in 2010.

christopher spero a.k.a glimpse has really made a name for himself the way that producers and djs in this day and age should: by making tasteful music of the highest caliber, and putting substance over style. these two tracks co-produced with frequent collaborator and head of the hypercolour label, alex jones, put that said taste on display in a refined and elegant form of house music.true friends pumps right from the beginning with a chunky rolling kick drum only made denser by the thick brushing percussion that surrounds it. before the beats become to overwhelming a soothing male vocals drifts in reminding how hard it is these days to find a true friend. a stark tune of epic proportions. returning with a similar pressure from drum programming aesthetic, which basically means hefty percussion layered over warm and tumbling drums. æcambria sets itself apart from the a-side with a more open-air vibe. light piano notes float along side softly played wind instruments, creating a surreal dreamlike audio experience that still has the tools to do damage on the dance floor. glimpse and alex jones have really put some true style, grace and class into their music. masters at creating a distinctive sound that exist in the space where warm and lush tones meet musicality and stimulation. a summer record with good vibes scrawled all over it.

after the >jamaica< reworks by dubfire and the mole, minilogue havent splashed out for the second remix ep of last years smash hit album >animals< either. the three versions of the homonymous lp title represent, at the same time, the whole bandwidth of contemporary electronic dance music. starting with multi-national vakant artist tolga fidan and his highly percussive prime time techno approach, whose oriental imprinting is not cagey about the turkish roots of the paris-based producer and – with the spoken voice reminding discreetly of minilogues 2008 club hit >doiicie<. a completely different direction is chosen by brendan moeller aka beat pharmacy. the south african-born protégé of ny house legend françois kevorkian on his deep space media label is interpreting >animals< within a mythical hypnosis of slagged deep house and deep dub techno, somewhere in between nu groove and basic channel, being one of the most visionary tracks in the beginning of 2009.

ray valioso (aka swiss producer agnès) returns to real soon with the 4-track particles e.p. on the title track particles, ray uses a moog-like synth part and a treated rhodes piano to weave a hypnotic melody that drifts in and out of focus over a clatter of loose, live percussion and distorted voices. on tocar te, basic house maniobras and groove memories, ray is in less experimental territory and turns in three quality pieces of warm, percussive, luxurious deep house. this is ray valiosos second full release, following up on his well-received einladung e.p. (real soon, 2006) - featuring the excellent >get the strings?< - and his recent appearance on the deep vibes recordings compilation >in the streets<.

volume two from mcedits shows a slight expansion of his concept, but mostly hews true to the rows he hoed on volume one. his method is basically to take lovely ballads and slow jams and add a little house heat. its really remarkable how such a simple methodology can produce such effective results but the proof is in the grooves so drop the needle on these for some rich rewards.

thank you have played with the likes of beach house, dan deacon, daniel higgs, celebration, wzt hearts and ponytail. thank you is an athletic rhythm/action unit, made up of jeffrey mcgrath, michael bouyoucas and elke wardlaw. michael was a member of the baltimore band more dogs who released an album on monitor records. the members of thank you are longtime friends and musical collaborators, working hard to bring to life their wholly original compositions. musical ideas are introduced and have conversations with one another, each track filled with new articulation and insight. the basics of drums, organ, and guitar build the foundation, but are augmented by whistles, cowbell, hobo harmonica, snappy loops, car horns, and whatever else might be at hand. the album terrible two was engineered by j. robbins (yeasayer, mary timony, jets to brazil) in baltimore and was produced and mixed by chris coady (tv on the radio, yeah yeah yeahs, celebration) in new york city.

in the beginning the was a dream, a dream to become part of the living womb of good music. a dream of being real, true to myself and i set this dream to fly high. days and years passed by and i didn t seem to find response but one day in the arkest hour came the light and then i knew i had to hustle it s a song about my determination to express myself widely whitin the realm of good music, won t be selling my soul, won t be taking the easy path, its all about what is real, training harder and harding until i get what i want: the pure sound of goodness for the dancefloor, for my life and the whole world. that s how i hustle. abicah soul confuzed well this track started as another track but i took the sounds from anohter track put with this that how i came up with the idea confused .i started listening sounded good i stuck with it.onw word deep stephen rigmaiden jeepin basically jeepin was done and i was listening to acapella s for like 2 weeks trying to find the right vocal snippets. my thoughts were how was i going to get franck s interest? i knew the track was done but for him to pick it up it needed a vocal. then i came across the perfect vox. i used a montage of a few different vocals, some hip hop elements, some jazz elements, some gospel elements, ill leave up to you to decipher. i knew i wanted a raw, kinda hip hop type of feelingas well, something you can get on the dance floor and go uggh!, that s my shit!! or damn i gotta get in that circle and show em whats up! i made it for the dancers out there, b- boys, house dancers , or jus ya regular club kids. trying to get the crowd hype is always my intentions , i feel this track does jus that. now get on the dance floor and recognize the sound!
