phuture shock musik present their 5th release, this time procuring the reliable talent of one of the most slept on producers in the world of bass music - that is simon/off. those in the know will be aware that the austrian native has been simmering in the underground for quite some time now, having laid the groundwork through early releases on haunted audio, a noteworthy ep for immerse records, and further contributions to several other smaller labels. this latest plate by the name of >planetary communication< ep finds simon/off leaning more towards his techno and broken beat side, which has of late began to flourish in his recent productions, and consists of three well crafted afro-tech riddims oozing weighty low-end frequencies, funky drum work and finely detailed percussion. widespread support on sub fm, and increasing support from several other major players in the underground bass scene.

free to be is a monstrous, house-submerged affair, as low-slung as they come and in a classic murk vibe. berliner hunee delivers a spot on remix on the title track and brings it into deeper territory reminiscent of early prescription releases. he is transforming the original mix into something fuller, warmer and almost epic. down to nothing is another slow pumping house nugget. with its soothing and soaring synths, ebb-and-flow arrangement, inviting melody and vocals, this is another bomb fitting every house set. things get even slower with why dont you. a great house tune with a sensuous vibe.

the next llfo comes as a split ep. swedish master of minimal house and argentinian techno veteran franco cinelli gathering to show underground dance musics status quo. franco cinellis da beatz on the a side, is a funky old school composition. the drums are the main plot of the track. twirling snares and classy rides accompanied by a very familiar sample give us a 1995 feeling. pandemonium on the b side, martinez contribution for this wonderful split ep, is his interpretation of modern house in perfection. as usual tight drum patterns, the for to the floor attitude and a low-fi bassline supported by a trippy vocal sample. probably one of his best work of late.

lando is known for teaming up with low limit as lazer sword, a future hip-hop from group from the bay area. his solo tracks are freaked out juggernauts of electronic music, primarily experimenting with various mutations of house. dense instrumentation, analog synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90s rnb, classic house, freestyle, garage, detroit techno, early synthesizer music, timbaland, and… to be honest, everything in between.
>maneuver< is a sure shot banger, a futuristic synth piece with heavy garage leanings and even a hint of robin s classic >show me love<. on the flip we find >run it<, a more introvert electro fused b-boy classic from future times.

wow! what a year the wolf music crew are having. every release gets better and better. each time serving up a unique new offering from a variety of artists all with one thing in common: extremely high standard of production. all too often labels release good but not great music but wolf music is a testament to what searching high and low for the freshest artists with the best skills can really achieve. wolf ep 009 is no different. one often talks about real class produces and labels and buzz names and the next big thing … but only do a handful of labels ever live up to the manufactured hype they seem to receive. wolf music not only lives up to it but indeed outshines it. this ep is a must have for any dj/music connoisseur who truly knows their trade.

the mysterious robotalco serves up four deep house cuts for nycs on the prowl. robos road kicks things off with the right amount of hissing strings and slow drifting vibes that win its a1 spot. next up we have it gets to me, which strips things back a bit with pulsing synths, sparse congas, and perfectly placed vocal snippets. on the b-side we get moon robot, it keeps things rolling with its stompy feel and more of whats becoming robotalcos signiture swirling synth pad sound. rounding up the release for b2 is zuk zuk, with its quirky low slung groove that develops into a latin percussive gem...its really a superb way to round off robotalcos otp debut. well done.

from the very outset, the m.c.d.e. remix of shit robots >answering machine< picks up in a completely different realm from marcus lambkins original, which appears on his 2010 debut, from the cradle to the rave. the stuttgart-based producer has replaced janine >planningtorock< rostrons slowly rising vocal opener with outerspace emanations that fade as they drift into a constellation of wide house grooves and deep bass. rostrons own pizzo remix is up next, and in (a)typical fashion, she takes the song and shifts its mood by clearing away the dancier elements of its predecessor in favor of a foundation of strings in every form: plucked pizzicato notes, low cellos tones, and high pitched violins that flit through. last up is another rostron creation, the whisper remix, which actually outpaces lambkins version in bpm, but is lighter all the same. here, she uses synths almost as a wash of white noise – a whisper, if you will – and only drops heavier vocals here and there along the songs rustling path.

our favorite guys from athens return to we are after some time, and with some super tight beats as well! fact of the matter is, that we for this one occasion chose to go with a full 12 inch instead of our standard club tracks 12 inch format simply because we needed all these three tracks to fit – good job! already passed the floor-test at many clubs and people are really feeling this superglued tightly produced rhythms mixed with old school disco house, they are held back and sneaky, and at the same time accesible and open to groove – just the way we like it!

modernista make a very welcome return after dropping their now classic debut 12 on us last year the architect of that raw late 80s machine music homage, paul bennett is back in charge here one of pauls formative influences during his youth was the music made by the first wave of techno producers from detroit. this release attempts to bring back some of the drama and pure funk of that sound. electronic music for the head, heart and feet. immaculately programmed maydayesque drum machines, emotive & expansive pitch bent synths, thundering low frequencies and clanks galore. this is a supercharged rewiring of the detroit blueprint in three startlingly well executed flavours.

after 2 years of throwing events in new york, stranjjur nycs next logical step was to move on to a more international platform. after introducing artists such as milton jackson, carlo lio, spencer parker, manik, till von sein, alex niggemann, pezzner and many others to the big apple, stranjjurs kev obrien (alongside label partner andy inelli) have decided to carry on the same a&r principals that made the events a success over to stranjjurs newest venture: a fully-fledged record label. the new brooklyn-based label has decided to hit the ground running with its debut ep coming from hot italian duo, lula circus. having also just recently been signed to one of americas hottest labels, culprit, its safe to say that the lula boys (danilo and sergio) are on the cusp of becoming stars of the underground dance scene. the vinyl edition of the miami vices ep features two amazing original tunes from lula circus, including title track, miami vice, which takes aim at the dance floor with a full arsenal of heavy bass and a powerful disco-inspired hook that instantly grabs a hold of the soul and refuses to let go. ovum and hot natured wonder-kid, manik, delivers a highly addictive remix, by slicing the main hook up, while supporting it with an insanely groovy bass line. on the b-side is pumpin groovin moovin, a future-funk jam thats carried by a focused low-end groove and catchy vocals. the remix comes courtesy of freeranges (and recent crosstown rebels signee) pezzner, and its one of his biggest remixes ever. this one has been receiving lots of early promo hype, thanks in part to maya jane coles, who included it in her bbc radio essential mix earlier this month. mayas support has helped to create a global whirlwind of anticipation amongst house music aficionados for the release of this incredible ep. the time has finally come for stranjjur imprint to be born!

troy pierce, marc houle & magda team up to present their first ever trio release on items & things, >down & out vol 1< - which takes its name from their newly created party series - events that are based around the dark & intimate, off the radar, and under the ground. troy pierce starts things off with >majikal<, introducing the eps dark magic with a climbing bassline, scattering, almost anxious percussion and buoyant sound effects panned throughout. ominous atmospheres and weighted textures produce a cinematic accompaniment to surveyors of uncharted terrain. building a continual tension-and-release cycle, the track is a lucid whirlwind of sonic imagery and trickery, balancing visceral sounds with the otherworldly. magda teams up with suade, a producer & friend from newcastle that we are sure to see more of, together they bring forth a true builder, a creeper, the type of track that reveals itself more with each layering sequence. a masterclass in dynamics, >fixation< is a dark groove thats haunted by a chilling vocal, wavering synth vibrato, unexpected melodies, and juxtaposes of funk. angular drums hit alongside swells of percussive echoes but, the focus of the track revolves around the bassline’s movement. as catchy as it is esoteric. marc houles >slowpe< ends the ep with a slightly slower pace, but in a disconcerting way: taking it down a few notches this one that transports the listener to the strangest dimension yet. filtered melodies start the tracks ascent, sounding like a trumpet thats been bent out of shape and played from the void. with dark textures compactly knit into a condensed wall of sound, a low-slung bassline trades places with eerie chords and sparse percussion

rather lightweight live album, only thirty four minutes long, three songs and some painful applause herding for an encore. the line-up is essentially the girls line-up, though john g. perry s been replaced by an also-excellent mike wedgwood. the production is clear but the mix misjudged: the admittedly nicely brought out bass sound dwarfs all other elements. in particular, pye hastings guitar is very low, the drums never seem to match the bass volume.

duke & sill are new producers that we will sure hear more of, this offering >rue saint bernard< takes you back in time and brings you to the future, this electro tech soul is a classic in the making, smooth deep and with lots of soul. common people produced by one of our up and coming producers volta cab, the title may take you by surprise >queen of elephants< we wanted to release the original before the remixes so that we hope you would love the song as we do, deep, memorable and great keyboard melodies, the vibe is a feel good one. b/w mark & paul are no strangers to dance music the production team of mark thomas bell & paul birchall has produced for us neuvo ritmo a classic piano groove over a low key aggressive beat, a sure peek time track for those who dare. urban crews >go< was originally presented by chez damier >the gathering< some years back we have decided to add this with the unplugged project to complete this classic theme, inspiring to say the least.

talented portugese duo johnwaynes have had a fruitful career so far with releases on labels like brique rouge and compost. now they appear on serenades, with this trippy and inspired vocal house track >never enough<. featuring the soulful vocal talents of stee downes, the irish amsterdam-based singer whose smooth tones can also be found on sonar kollektiv, the team have cooked up a real hit in the making with >never enough<. combining deep, sexy house vibes with an insistent, catchy vocal and expertly produced elements the track comes in two distinct versions. the original keeps things low down and dirty, wrapping up the story in a cool 8 minute version. melodious pianos and deep square bass come together in a glorious moment of underground pop house. the raw mix however pushes the story further with a more ravey vibe and extended tripped-out moments, yet keeps it deep and soulful with warm rhodes keys and plenty of atmosphere!

having originally released tony rohrs oddlantik avenue album back in february, cari lekebuschs h-productions have done what they do best and clubbed together between their tight roster of like-minded artists to come up with a eye-widening selection of reworks for this remixes ep.
left to their own devises to pick what tracks to remix, the individuals own tastes came to the fore. the advent unsurprising opted for the twisted techno killer >eden acid< while cari lekebusch jumped at reworking the crazily tripped out >rz-fun< and alexi delanos low-slung mix of >nightdrive< is beautifully melancholic and deeply intense with fizzing percussion.

the advanced human - >air< ep is the latest deep offering from gynoid audio. rich with dub chords, atmosphere and reflection it is truly a celebration of living.....and breathing. the original offers up rolling dub keys surrounded by intricate percussion and a drive aimed at the dance floor. the ground loop remix finds itself rich with space and atmosphere while still lending from the dub influence of the original. markus suckut brings to the table a hypnotic dub influenced version to die for, all pushed a long nicely by a fat, low slung bassline and held in tension by the comings and goings of timely atmospherics. the raiz boys, as expected, move things back in a peak time direction by stepping up the rolling dub chords and putting the funk in the percussion. air. breathe. enjoy.

returning to the kitchen after an over extended jaunt in the bathroom, the sound diggers grant us with another slap happy handful of flavor with their new piece entitled >dont flap just jack<. here at flapjack we do encourage everyone to wash their hands before returning from the bathroom to the decks. with the nasty low down n dirty grooves that are all over this ep, i am not so sure the sound diggers washed up very well, or at all. as we say in the business, when you get dirt in your salad, eh, its just a lil flava.

raf pisani and marco conte, aka audiomatiques, have long been involved in techno but its since they began working together as audiomatiques that everything began to click. together with roberto capuano, an artist who has already released for loose, claque musique, monique musique and suara, the duo have delivered 3 sterling tracks, which are backed by a remix from rino cerrone, for loose. cerrone takes full advantage of his position as label boss and places his remix of >so bad< in pole. its a walloping but low slung affair riddled with hypnotic rises and false drops which build incredible tension. in original form, >so bad< is a pounding affair. the focus is centred around an unholy bass heavy kick with just the minimum of percussive flourishes and vocal effects doing the rest with aplomb. >mind trip<, while equally as heavy, is fluid and slick. swinging tribal vibes and some clever effects work paired with an airtight arrangement makes for a surefire club burner. finally, the bizarre yet compelling leads of the aptly titled >crazy synth< close proceedings with a fever-dream fervour. original and memorable, this is a genuinely anthemic cut.
