remastered reissue featuring three fantastic hard-to-find classic rump shakers from hamilton bohannon. bohannon was one of the key forces in disco in the seventies and this is him at his best - his instantly recognisable sound is pure uncut boogie mixing riffing guitars, bad-ass funky bass and pounding drum tracks. first up is the super-rare long 12 inch version of me & the gang a superbly funky track popular with everyone from tony humphries to carl craig with its great chunky beats & a killer piano groove later sampled by paul johnson for his hit get get down, followed by the groove i feel - a monstrously good floor-filling gem unearthed from his 76 album dance your ass off. on the flip you get the awesome full 12:45 minute version of maybe you can dance another slamming disco-funk stomper only ever available as an elusive 1977 12 inch promo. quality stuff!

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. the >just for fun< ep starts with the title track just4fun, which in fact breathes fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. the funky and highly infectious keys and the butt shaking groove will remind you of a track that moodymann never made, but wishes he had. next comes unlimited01 with a joyful piano melody that would fit right into a french disco with a funkier version of alain delon behind the decks. still, the rhodes chords, the slow sexy groove, the vocal hooks will get you moving in no time. thang then goes into a more detroit beatdown direction with its deep chords and smooth pads. it creates a mellow atmosphere with an almost relaxed summer feeling. this is what a funky pimp would listen to on a night car drive. the ep ends with spiritual almost tribal rhythms. inspiration would be a nice soundtrack to a 70s orgy orchestrated by a groovy guru, surrounded by a magical circle of mystical dancers. over the top? sure, but the track would certainly get this party going.
