mosco fell asleep in tel aviv and awoke days later in berlin. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, akachi plows straight in with its relentless rolling bassline, a thick blanket enveloping any and all breathing room. an array of squelches and atonal pads struggle to rise above the trudging rhythm, while live percussion slides in and out of frenzy. on the flipside, nobody else shows us moscos more ethereal side. beautifully programmed drums draw us in as the accentuated hi-hats and claves elegantly pierce rhythmic synth work, until finally were carried away by mystic keys layering in heavenly glissandos. these two songs will make you thirst for potent potions.

uk funk connoisseur duke slammer takes the driving seat on the 303-fueled ‘bangkok skytrain’, with remixes from moscow based simple symmetry and returning artist tony g. inspired by tropical heat, bangkok skytrain utilises 303s, analogue drum machines and mixes in field recordings taken from an excursion to thailand. the result is a heady concoction of warm basslines and humid atmospheres, with a groove reminiscent of early 90’s melodic techno and a cheeky drum track that wouldn’t be out of place on a larry heard record. simple symmetry, the lipski brothers from moscow, slowly rebuild layers of the track like a locomotive building up momentum, and in typical style simple symmetry style finding the perfect vocal sample and pan pipes that help propels you into the foreign lands. before you know it the track is pumping at full chug! tony g’s take goes a bit further afield than the original. a dub rhythm sets the picture in outer-space. hihats stutters like cosmic dust rickashading off the nosecone of the space ship while longing strings take us deep into a distant nebular before the 303 bring the thousands of new galaxies into view. definitely music to listen to in the dark! look out for the secret dancefloor weapon ‘just drums’, an industrial drum machine workout for the freaks!

crimes of the future are proud to present the first recorings from bulb. bulb are willie burns, scott fraser and timothy j. faiplay two live jams recorded in new york in the spring of 2014. side a combines gehtto techno breaks with something from wayward kosmiche studio experiments in deepest germany. on side two dark ambient synthesis and stabbing drums combine to drop you somewhere in a world of psychedelia and cavernous cave dwellings.

over the last 12 years, kel mckeown, or kelpe, has carved himself a unique perch in the uk s electronic underground. across several full-lengths, eps and remix projects, his misfit electronica has managed to cohere a staggeringly deep spectrum of influence along the way. a natural son and heir to generation warp and the fathers of krautrock, his pioneering experiments in the early 00s also positioned him as one of many stylistic precursors to the arrival of la s now-sprawling beat scene. much like scene-savants prefuse 73 and dimlite, kelpe has remained an enormously respected stalwart of the fringes, always dabbling variously in sampleheavy beat-craft, oddball ambient, and more recently dancefloor-ready club grub.

groovy beats and killer basslines ensure that this ep is another must have of they boys.to complete this fine package we asked some of our fave producers rich wakley from off and resonance and russ yallop from hot creations and crosstown rebels.

zadig is back on his own imprint with three nervous and raw tracks. he founds two of them in a * rush* folder, and after a few months playing those two tracks all around the world, he decided to release the package under the title of * lost tape* with an additional jam as a bonus beat. tape 1 is a banging and hypnotic long track, with a frenetic synth and explosives hats. tape 2 is more dirty, with distorted synth and crunchy beats. tape 3 is a bonus jam, made with machine drums only.

in this e.p, phobos (fear), every artist expresses his most disturbing consciousness, giving us an awesome dose of techno without scruples or contemplations. it is a sensitive group project which is drawn directly into our subconscious. the track phobos speaks from strong foundations and dark shades that put soundtrack to water rojas hallucinations (rojas is the illustrator of this e.p.). in erratic chaos, the composer takes us amid the wrong road map of disorder. phobonica is the end of a tortured mind which transmutes its inner voices in dark melodies, snares and drums. at last, acid panic is a dark acid track built from the fear which follows a tension line made with abstract melodies.

f.s. blumm aka frank schültge from berlin has been making marvelous music for many years now. be it solo like on his latest album (pingipung in 2013) as part of the subtle folk-duo -bobby & blumm- or as a sound- scape researcher at the side of nils frahm. but even though f.s. blummbastic sees the light of day for the very first time in this release, the combina- tion of dub and blumm is not new: he is part of the quasi dub development (qdd). the collective around blumm and luca fadda from new york recently released the album -little-twister vs stiff-neck- with features by lee scratch perry or lady ann on pingipung in 2014. these -riddims and biscuits- came to live during the creation of material for future qdd-concerts. f.s. blummbastic played all instruments himself, rhythm guitar, organ and of course bass to send the results the the colleagues in new york. soon it was clear: these riddims have the most impact in their reduced form. theyd like to stand alone and get played back loudly. for the drums f.s. blummbastic brought helmut erler aka hey from hey-Ø-hansen into the qdd cosmos. not only did he bang the drums, but he has also mixed, mastered and cut the vinyl of this album.

embezzlement society takes us back to the early days of 80s hip-hop with his ‘rough quarters ep. on his record the man from belfast heavily relies on funk-based drum loops as were popular in the glorious days of old school hip-hop. the results are two super casual tracks with a cool hip-house attitude just perfect for hip-house lover drei farben house who took the chance to contribute a remix in his slick and smooth style, merging the raw drums with some tender rhodes. tenderpark regular roman rauch finishes off the ep and slows down the tempo in his remix concentrating on the originals of the samples and displaying his mastery with the mpc once more. as always all tracks have been mastered and cut by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

metereze keeps a steady path of releases and this time around it is young star vincent iulian who picks up the ball and delivers four astounding tracks on his four quarters ep. also a native of bacau like dubtil and raresh among others vincent has already released on labels like naural or moment.
started is probably the grooviest of them all and for sure youve heard it before if you’ve been attending the right parties. breaking the boundries between techno and house this is a true masterpiece. on the same side he also shows a more relaxed atmosphere filled with jazzy percussions and easy synths. stors kinda makes you stop and dream for a while.
first on side b we have another dancefloor monster. no more is is driven by a hypnotic synth and infused with enough drums to keep you on the move for the whole 7 minutes. le van a cantar keeps the catchy driving mood but this time iulian explores a more broken path. bubbly voices, snares and a haunted synth emerging now and then make this corner as interesting as the rest.
four quarters is a must have for any serious collector. not to mention if you are a dj.

throw is the 1st track here, which manages to loop a refrain and bass that candy staton anthem, all the while sounding like a forgotten moodymann mpc jam. vocals, skipping snares, a bouncing tambourine & one of the finest bassline ever written (by someone else) compell you to dance. need your love is a heads down sample house jam. it’s looping vocal, super tight drums, woozy chord stabs and sirens make it feel like the result of a studio session between a 90’s dubbed out louie vega & man-like switch (before he went feral).

the second edition of the rose records limited 10- series comes courtesy of junktion, whose releases on the likes of outplay and slow town didn t only sell out at breakneck speed but also established him as one of holland s biggest talents in discerning deephouse/disco circles. junktion does what he does best on this delightful little platter. the lolloping running for whatever on the a is as infectious as they come, with loads of clever samples arranged over classy rolling drums and a deep, rubbery bassline. flip over for pale blue dot, a slightly tougher, trippier uptempo workout with spaced out pads, big drums, crisp hats and massive synth stabs that should whip up a real frenzy in a packed club. killer pair of tunes from a producer that s very much on top of his game.

clio has joined truesoul with some superb electronic tracks that are techy and filled with funk.
each track has its own personality, using catchy vocal hooks, synth lines that engrain into your brain and tough chunky drums that keep the rhythm flowing. this ep is one that will take any dance floor to the next level.

”love will remember pharaon de winter” is said at the end of the record. pharaon de winter was a painter from north of france, who lived from the end of the xixth century to the beginning of the xxth century. today, pharaon de winter is reappearing again. it’s a band, but also the name of a song, which changed everything for his author. past leader of both bands toy fight and (please), maxime chamoux was playing since now a genre between north american rock of spoon and neutral milk hotel, and sophisticated british pop from prefab sprout or xtc. we find today in this new project songs navigating between french, for most part, and english. partners and friends since a long time, thomas pirot at the drums and raphael ankierman at the bass are playing alongside fx guéant-mata at the guitar. we also find mina tindle and her delicate voice appearing here and there. at last we don’t forget the goldsmith’s talent of canadian musician sandro perri who’s joining the band, highly recommended by pitchfork magazine with his album impossible spaces in 2011.

the second release we do with french artists upwellings aka vincent raude who is professor of modern art at the academy of brest and has been recording music since 1996. his ep comprised two tracks. a-side >dubbin at the strobe< feat. michael zerang shows a nice interaction of drums and sounds developing a profound deep mood. drum parts were recorded in chicago by michael zerang, a real jazz legend who played a lot with peter brötzmann and joe mcphee, hamid drake. the flip side >lighthouse dub< has the aura of an place which is extremely isolated. the sound is at times extremely pulled back and melancholic and holds a sentiment that reminds us a bit of joy divisions >we are the young men<. the track undergoes a transformation beatwise when going more uptempo.

large music continues to showcase the brilliant and creative work of early 90s artists black ice with a re-issue of one of the most sought after early chicago house releases- the union camp ep. originally released in 1993 on the historic night club records, large music has now licensed the tracks exclusively for a worldwide vinyl-only release. while all four tracks possess that classic raw chi-town soul vibe, it is track 1, men on drums, that has garnered the most attention. championed the last few years by respected berlin-based dj zip, many of the elite vinyl-only djs across the globe have sough out a clean copy of this very rare wax masterpiece.

yoruba records is proud to present this four-track ep from label newcomer myles bigelow. having honed his craft as a graduate of the berklee college of music, myles is known for releases on his own imprint deep culture music and we’re excited to have him bring his blend of latin, jazz, and tropical rhythms to the yoruba family. the opening track, afro banger, as the title suggests is a dance floor ready afro-inspired ballad. the captivating combination of percussion, rolling bass and clever synth stabs in this track demand peak hour airtime. house rocka is yet another floor-ready tune. with its fat, punching bass and smooth conga –laden beat this track will keep a floor moving at any hour. the b-side of this release opens with spiritual awakening. seemingly led by steel drums and gentle guitar arpeggios, the introduction of a warm bass line takes this groove in a hypnotic direction. finally the title track of this release, turning pages opens up with a smooth string bass line perfect for setting the mood a little deeper. the sensual vocals and subtle yet underlying funk-inspired guitar melody make this groove suitable for dance floors, cars, and home stereos alike.

messed up house ep is the right mood s debut on vinyl and for the four tracks on it, house music borrows their foundations. powerful kick drums and bright handclaps make the tight bases that carry lots of musical influences, from distorted guitar amps to brazilian percussion, passing through techno bleeps and minimal noises, all of them, always involved by huge basslines that will put to proof the sound system s capabilities of reproducing low-end frequencies. underground house music has found a place in this bundle. an ep title was never so true!

kicking things off on the a side is herbie s jam , an effortlessly cool house edit of the legendary jazz pioneer that features an infectious piano loop, live drums and a funky bassline which we re sure is going to become a staple at day time parties and sunset sets this summer. there s also an incredibly smooth and soulful trumpet sample to complete the jam and tie everything together. on the flip you ll find a more up beat and peak time affair called oliver that keeps the same jam session vibe as on the a side, but this time employs sultry organ keys, breezy guitar licks, and a truly groovy saxophone contribution that makes you just want to get up and move. just as with their previous releases, this is a hand stamped, limited, 12- that won t be around for long.

operator tracey delves into the world of weirdo acid on the a1. gloomy digi-strings float over over inflated kick drums and bouncey percussion, choice vocal samples punctuate this unusual yet super infectious, squelchy hardware workout. perseus trax drags the machines out and launches an arpeggiated, ethereal assault. progressive melodies and choking hi hats smash into one another whilst a booming 707 kick rattles the bass bins, prime time floor fodder.

to celebrate fifty fathoms deeps 2nd year of pressing we asked some of our favourite producers to remix a selection of cuts from our back catalogue and as expected they ve all come up trumps! the ep opens with fouk boys riding the groove on their remix of ugly drums don t let life (passing by) then thatmanmonkz goes left of centre with his reimagining of phil asher feat james massiahs move ya self. on the flip new zealand s frank booker comes correct on his take of lay-fars triptych to round off a great package. the ep is a fitting way to mark another year of quality music from fifty fathoms deep.

brack, the new imprint from uk-born berlin-based producer bnjmn, is back in quick succession with another strong transmission from the label boss. after plunging into dirtier, darker sonic waters on the pitchfork-tipped brack001, chromed continues the descent. while the propulsive rhythms and skilfully stacked samples remain intact, these 4 tracks are imbued with subtler elements that become more apparent with repeated listens. drums don’t just bang, they scrape, stab and shudder, and the typically mesmeric synth-lines are swathed in analogue hiss and seething low-end. idiosyncratic aural details have always been a specialty of the young producer, but here they rise to the fore. the rapidly flourishing sound world that is brack comes more into focus, and it appears it is even more intricate and musically rich than on first glance.

prolific dutch artist conforce is back with another lp on delsin records. this one marks something of a subtle evolution in his sound in that it returns to a more organic and immersive aesthetic. made using various bits of outboard gear, it fuses dub rhythm with ambient detail and propulsive 4/4 kick drums to make for absorbing listening. once again, then, this album proves no one does deep electronic music as well as conforce.
