atr is a one of a kind reggae collective based in parkside brooklyn. founded by scrillamatic and kg, at their core they are just group of friends who hang out in the park and sing, all day. the routine is simple, they meet up at their favorite hangout spot on the side of a lake, play beats off of a beat up but loud stereo, and belt out lyrics out into the air. sometimes a crowd gathers but it’s usually just a few like minded artists sharing their love for music. natives of the west indies, but coming of age in brooklyn, they have a very unique perspective on life and the world we live in. with subject matters varying from traditional roots medleys, smoked out ganja anthems to gangsta badman chants to heartfelt soulful ballads telling tales of the ghetto and more, they have a lot to say.

experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with new birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by wu-tang clan, de la soul, junior m.a.f.i.a., black sheep, lil wayne, ice cube, and many more. the genesis of new birth can be traced back to the nite-liters, a louisville-based instrumental outfit. founded in 1963 by motown songwriter/producer harvey fuqua and saxophonist tony churchill, the nite-liters released a handful of albums in the early 70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power new birth to further success as the decade progressed. while much of the the nite liters’ early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. originally released on rca records in 1970, the nite liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by kmd, ghostface killah and others.

anton pieete is known for his classic, textured take on house & techno. the dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular eps for joris voorns rejected imprint. now he turns over his latest wares to ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of themenu. while it may be our starter, first dish peven is definitely more of a main course. heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass. our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of lite green. its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam. bn300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from the menu.

camila fuchs (meaning fox in german) are the london based experimental electronic duo of camila de laborde and daniel hermann-collini (from mexico and munich respectively). after pursuing solo endeavours in various projects both camila and daniel left their native countries and gravitated towards london due to its vibrant and eclectic attitudes to different cultures and the arts.

vaghe is a man of few words. he wanders, seemingly endlessly, through a lonely, gargantuan labyrinth of concrete and steel, fighting off ghosts and other futuristic nightmares, searching only for something called the full stream ahead. who is this quiet, determined man and what are these ghosts he seeks? the small communities he finds tucked into the crevices of this towering, dystopic ruin hardly give him leads on his treasure, driving him to find larger enclaves of civilization where people can reveal more about the world he lives in and the quarry he seeks. if vaghe is going to find the treasure he seeks, he will need more help and information than the inhabitants of these beleaguered outposts can offer. he needs to find a larger cluster of civilization, but he’ll have to survive the trip to get there, first… following his 2014 ‘sweet sixteen’, and his 2015 ‘abstract speed + sound’ other people is pleased to announce the full stream ahead: the prologue by turin’s daniele mana aka vaghe stelle. previously associated with italian label gang of ducks and a current member of production group one circle with fellow nationals lorenzo senni and a:ra, daniele’s roots in the emerging italian production scene run deep and place him at its center.

a pivotal moment in 20th century politics, history and culture the november 22nd 1963 assassination of president john f. kennedy (in dallas, texas) produced a mountainous range of forgotten, discarded and ghostly vinyl artifacts. country songs, private-press lamentations, mournful poetry and violent political diatribes were rushed onto rough-hewn 45s and marginal lps that vied to be heard above the noise and confusion.

nachtbraker is back! its been a huge year for the amsterdam deep house juggernaut who returns to dirt crew with his all new and colorfully titled really ties the room together ep. constantly on the move, hes found time between touring throughout europe, asia and south america to continue to push his a-typical house sound forward with this years heist release and his quirky jam busy bee that was featured on our deep love 100 compilation. this three tracker is jam packed with bouncing club tunes and a whole lot of flange. things kick off with the title track really ties the room together. it twists and turns over an unconventional but irresistible groove, shimmying shakers, brass stabs and a serpentine riff work together creating a super tight dance floor cut. rew begins somewhere in deeper territory, suspense building beneath the clouds, a rumbling bass rolls in from over the horizon before a glorious funk guitar blows the whole thing wide open, letting the suns rays burst through and that familiar nachtbraker good time energy shine in. the rerub of rew is something altogether new from our deep house protagonist, a break beat and casual groove guide gently towards an ever intensifying acid trip. dont be fooled by the lovely deep chords, things get nasty in the end. its best to expect the unexpected from our adventurous resident producer, and this ep is no exception.
