arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

marco resmann returns to watergate after a productive stint at the red bull music studios in cape town with two stellar cuts featuring local heroes deep aztec and black soda. tack on a remix from the one and only oliver huntemann and another revision from resmann himself and you have the ‘babylon side ep. teaming up to kick things off, resmann, black soda and deep aztec embrace the cultural sounds of africas organic percussion and vocal prowess to create a tour de force tune perfectly balance between flashing club lights and vast open skies. following suit, ‘abadala sees marco again with deep aztec for a lush ride into deep emotional spaces by applying mesmerizing syncopated rhythms and spellbinding vocals ideal for deeper or more sentimental dance floor moments. up next is techno legend oliver huntemann who, playing after resmann earlier this year at the 15 years of watergate event at warung beach club in brazil enjoyed his set and the two hit it off, so logically he was asked to lend his trademark sound for a revision of ‘babylon side and he twists the original into a heavy techno belter complete with sinister sonics and fever inducing sirens. wrapping things up is marco resmann himself with his own take on ‘babylon sides and delivers a wild and twisted version of gargantuan low end and psychedelic shimmers of the original vocal resulting in a killer tune with a ton of attitude.

hundebiss bossman simone trabucchi - a pivotal figure of the italian scene - debuts his still alias on pan with a batch of banging, multi-layered dancehall tracks inspired by the complex historical links between his hometown, vernasca, with jamaica, and italy’s colonial past in ethiopia. part of a wider visual arts project, invernomuto, helmed alongside simone bertuzzi, and comprising a series of sculptures, installations, a book, and a long-feature experimental documentary under the title ‘negus’‘, simone takes cues from a “cleansing counter-ritual performed by lee ‘scratch’ perry in the vernasca square where 80 years earlier, an effigy of haile selassie i was burned” to cook up a madd set of dancehall tracks voiced by six milan-based, african-italian vocalists and singers...

‘utopia’ is the ninth studio album from the iconic artist björk, out november 24th via one little indian records. the album s artwork was created in collaboration of m/m, jesse kanda and james merry and reflects the records sonic direction, optimism, lightness, utopia. of the album she explained to dazed this summer that, ““maybe that’s why it became a utopian theme – if we’re gonna survive not only my personal drama but also the sort of situation the world is in today, we’ve got to come up with a new plan, if we don’t have the dream, we’re just not gonna change. especially now, this kind of dream is an emergency.” björk wrote, produced and recorded the album between reykjavik and new york, working closely with arca and writing for, conducting and recruiting a thirteen piece flute orchestra which will be on the road with her next year.

one of the most pivotal figures in the history of malian music is sorry bamba. his work spans five decades and his music bridges the gap between mali s cultural traditions and new the music which arose from the musical cross overs which occurred in mali s post-colonial period. bamba was born in 1938 in mopti. this is dissected by both the niger and bani rivers and known for its rich cultural diversity. bamba s father was a distinguished veteran of emperor samory toure s military and a nobleman in malian society, however, this meant young sorry was forbidden to make music, as under the nation s caste system, music was an art form reserved for the griots.
in 1977 sorry produced his second lp for the paris based sonafric group. long out of print africa seven is pleased to be re-issuing the lp. the re-issue benefits from extensive restoration and re-mastering to a spectral analysis level, bringing and polishing long lost and distorted sounds.

today, we are glad to introduce you to our tone series remix series. one and a half years after the launch of the parent label, tone series has released five eps (consisting of two tracks each), all composed by french musician david k. and almost halfway between the first release ts10 and the last one ts01 (ts06 came out at the beginning of september 2017), we thought it would be interesting to ask artists we like to reinterpret one of david s creations.as a result, we re delighted to present you as 1st ep (tsrs01) of this tone series remix series: dipe (ts09) re-drummed by french music composer and dj traumer as well as winter bells (ts06) remixed by japanese artist tomoki tamura, both artists getting the ball rolling for this new soulful and colourful series.

landing as gene tellem s first record, -who says no- is a product of change. new relationships and collaborations emerged out of a time when familiar spaces in montreal were disappearing. this state of ambiguity, and improvisation inspired the freeform structures and subtle transformations heard in these tracks. while -moving in this way- and the title tune push forward with intention, -soul of man- floats between lush drones, a pitch bent lead, and a pair of haunting chords. -we were all being tested in different ways, and trying to figure out what would happen next...-

for the 9th instalment in dba s dubs series ikonika and big strick square off head to head, following the hyperdub artist s genre-defying distractions lp earlier this year. oral suspension is an instrumental which switches rough-shod between a uk halfstep crunch and a hoop dreams era chicago bounce. on the flip big strick brings his characteristic smooth groove to the table for the remix, which, though laidback, is nevertheless bound to energise the dancers. evading the ubiquitous pigeonholes, ikonika has variously been known for her dubstep innovations, her uk funky experiments on hum and buzz and her post-urban sketches for hyperdub. meanwhile though an interest in techno and specifically the sounds of the midwest have underpinned her work.

the working relationship between producer psyk (a.k.a. manuel anós) and mote-evolver continues with the new silent witness ep, another episode showcasing psyks expert balance of technical variance and affective consistency.longtime fans of psyk will find silent witness to be a very worthy addition to his catalogue, and also a worhty addition to any dj sets that desire to mix raw energy with a carefully tailored sense of sophistication.

hailing from buenos aires, sebastian galante a.k.a. seph is one of argentina’s main electronic music artists. with nearly 10 years of activity in the techno scene, he has established himself as a multi-fac- eted artist, dividing his time between roles such as an energetic, prolific producer, heavily requested remixer, aula magna records label manager, and a live act which has driven him to perform all across the globe. a sound experimentalist at heart, he devotes himself into expanding the sonic experience on the dance-floor and in the mind.

after putting out kito jempere s stunning sea monster album earlier in the year, hell yeah now serve up a bunch of remixes from it that have been secret weapons for the last few months. behind them are black spuma, lipelis and bell towers and they all serve up real heaters. first up with possibly their best ever remix are black spuma—a collaboration between phillip lauer (tuff city kids, arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio)—who flip ampa into a bootylicious house cut with fat bass stabs and sci-fi synths. it s retro in flavour and riddled with melodies that are brightly coloured and emotive, and when the vocal is layered in it helps carry you away on a wave of bliss. for djs who prefer to keep things raw, a dub version without the vocals is also included and bangs that bit harder.

hailing from the london rat race, mux step forward with the first release on teenage father and lay their distinctive style out for all to witness. their broad-reaching indie rock sound has undertones of electronica, grunge and a very british swagger that deserves to get them onto radio playlists and festival line ups aplenty. -mdma- rumbles along somewhere between soulwax, kasabian and queens of the stone age, while -teenage father- ups the intensity with a punky thrum behind the raucous guitars and grinding synths, and then -stray- finds the band mixing up the time signatures for the most adventurous cut on the record.

interstate records is a newborn independent record label based between london and berlin. it’s run by the up-and-coming duo dial tone and aims to provide a vibrant and diverse platform for emerging and established artists within the techno scene, whilst occasionally touching upon ambient and other experimental music spheres.

lsd is an ongoing musical collaboration between longtime electronic music innovators luke slater, steve bicknell and david sumner focusing on psychedelic aspects of techno while emphasizing the cross-pollination of each members style and rhythmic sensibility. personal ties between the three can be traced back across continents and developments in dance music, with steve first inviting luke to play his legendary lost party series in london in the early 90s, resulting in mutual remixes for pioneering techno imprints cosmic records and nova mute. almost a decade later in the year 2000, dave, a native new yorker, befriended steve after inviting him to play limelight in manhattan. over the years, dave and luke would also have numerous encounters, first forming a musical bond in 2009, with dave later co-producing lukes early l.b. dub corp material (roller, 2013).
