fideles is the joint moniker of italian duo daniele aprile and mario roberti, who have carved out a niche for their distinctive brand of deep, techy house on noted labels such as defected, be as one, and marco resmann’s upon you, among others. here on their first outing for poker flat recordings, the duo cook up four courses of lean, focussed tech-house for steve bug’s seminal imprint. ‘detuned’ starts the journey - an edgy, tense groove exhibiting the boy’s masterful sound design and use of space to create a thick, intoxicated atmosphere. ‘i’m rude’ is more direct - a thumping bass drum introduces a low slung bass groove, slowly evolving and mutating into a true party-starter. ‘worthy’ uses similar building blocks but delivers a different vibe altogether, revelling in a minimalist production aesthetic and cheeky bass riff. ‘ran baran’, the title track, is another lesson in great production - each element perfectly balanced to create an atmosphere of controlled mayhem - which is exactly the response this entire ep aims to instigate on dancefloors.

* beyond the clouds* was recorded from a live session near the heart of detroit using hand crafted modular synthesizers, analog devices and custom made effects units. remastered by ron murphy @ nsc mastering, detroit, usa shortly before he passed away, his memory will live in our hearts forever. in this live version of cv313s classic, the modular recordings were separated, dissected in the mix and dubbed out with a litany of analog effects. during this performance there was a mystical element in the air, strobe lights, vaporous gas and electric dreams. a connection felt with the dancers, a groove beyond a groove, it is that magical essence of japan. this was a night to remember, recorded live in tokyo with love. during the closing moments, the ghostly ambiance faded, the smoke cleared and beyond the sequence was born. remastered by bazza @ alchemy studio, london. uk

resplendent in its simplicity, forever is the sound of emika boiled down to her steely essence. gated vocal snippets and haunting synth arpeggios give a nod to early-90s proto-trance, the arps filtering in and out of focus in tense fashion before unfolding into a dreamy melodic progression ‘never’ treads similar ground but takes a more direct approach, the tension building consistently in layers as more arpeggiated synths gently modulate in hypnotic fashion shimmering, icy sounds create a haunting, slow-burning atmosphere before the rhythm switches up for the latter half of the track, layers of gated white noise further punctuating the groove. emika deftly utilises each element for maximum effect, allowing each to breathe and shine by way of slick production and clever arrangement.

timmy ps latest outing on dessous recordings continues the long list of illustrious labels that have been home to his house vision. now based in london, timmy has a string of emphatic releases under his belt, not least on influential imprints such as local talk, extended play, dirt crew and madtech. with safety first, timmys playful approach to the deeper side of house shines though. the title track mixes crisp, crunchy drums with warm, soft pads and a bubbling bass line - a deep rolling cut with plenty of punch for the floor. the fantastically named grim fandango is a little tougher, with the snares and claps snapping tightly over a taut, un-resistible vibe. timmys balance of dynamics is masterful, each element perfectly complimenting each other to create a tour de force over 8 minutes. bosh is similarly crafted - the original echoing classic 90s house but feeling completely fresh for 2016, while james dexters remix is a robust, deep roller. this is house music made with joy and passion.

andreas gehm is known for his fierce, unapologetic acid style. but the cologne man does have a more mellow side, a smoother side, and that s what this three tracker is. of course, smooth gehm still has some rough edges. -yellow flowers- combines thick pads, skittering beats, warming samples and frigid bars in an intoxicating brew. malice and menace rear their ashen faces for the evil machinations of -late at night-, muffled vocals and sharpened snares glinting in the streetlights. safety arrives in the form of the aptly titled -less violence.- rhythms are still rough edged, melodies still have an underhanded element. yet there is a subdued humanity in the sweetened strings, emotion coming to a head as the needle runs out.

one of the founding members of apollonia, shonky was responsible for his label’s very first release back in 2012 with ‘the minneapolis touch’. outside of working on the trio’s debut lp ‘tour a tour’, shonky has been relatively quiet on the solo tip. here on apollonia’s 25th release we’re treated to four new cuts from the berlin-based parisian, kicking off with plombie&#768,,re (plumber in english). shonky injects a variety of unusual sounds, which revolve around a jaunty bassline, while voices dip in and out of the background, repeating the mantra ‘house music’ together with other difficult to decipher vocal clips. the track has a catchy rhythm that bounces along with aplomb. up next ‘house me’ is a sleazy, mischievous cut with a deadly low end and a seductive vocal that urges you to ‘house me’. as the bassline rumbles, high pitched effects add a hypnotic element to the track. badboy business.on the b-side we have ‘perchee’, which is powered by cleverly layered percussion, which is almost ‘live’ sounding. another one of those ‘shonky’ basslines gets us straight into the groove, with utterly contagious beats – this is one to shake the dance floor down its core. finally, ‘cosmopolis’ has that inner city realness flowing through with the chatter of a street corner in the background, a killer b-line and one of those classic vocal samples that is oh so familiar and gets you nodding your head as soon as you hear it. and there it is, four dance floor cuts with plenty of depth and groove in true shonky style… c est formidable!

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.

the good folk at kat records deliver release no. 28 in the shape of a 4 tracker of tasty audio goodness covering disco, boogie, house and a rather splendid leftfield number that defies any form of categorisation! hlb (henri le blanc) is the man behind these and deffo one to keep close tabs on! the a side covers of the disco,house element nicely with thunder and straight up boogie with loves comin. not direct edits, but reversions with elements added to spice up and delight. the flip is a hammond lead beauty with 2 tracks that lean slightly left of centre. country churches is a low slung deep house chugger that really does tease all the way and we finish things off with the ace touch my soul. elements of broken beat, soul and funk with a top vocal hook to set it off.

unequal is a label founded by anselm from frankfurt am main in 2015. ranging from deep, spaced out analog techno to more droning, industrial rough sounds, the aim is to give an impression of whats going on in the ffm underground these days. sophisticated broken beats and modular synths are essential for this project. unequal means not to be just one specified style but an open-minded platform to express a diverse view of music within the techno genre. with his first ep called -gral-, anselm delivers some cold, moody techno tracks with spherical soundscapes as an connecting element. the title track on the a side is a journey through wide open extramundane synth layers and bubbling acid drops covered by a voluminous bass. b1 is a bit more conventional one with driving hi-hats and slightly jacking beat whereas b2 is four-to-the-floor trippy stripped-down minimalism for the heads.

2015 looks to be delta funktionen s year. following the terrifically dark and deep wasteland series comes -a new planet-. a cold electro beat is the bedrock from which a corrupting and corrosive 303 coil grows. but even with this caustic foundation, moments of salvation are to be found. a second techno moon dawns midway, frostier percussion giving way to warmer rhythms. full and flowing bars fall and rise behind the squawk, allowing a new and brighter element to bloom. a track that is at once atmospheric and club centric from an artist at the top of his game. this will be released as a limited single sided 12- vinyl with a silkscreen print on the b side.

ok, we are quite slow on releasing records, but here is our next release on film. we stumbled upon the artist on a reseach for a music video - in the end we didn t discover a video director, but denial.of.service, an artist in many fields including music, video and performance art. as he ist active since the early eighties, he was involved in numerous projects, doing productions, remixes and videos for and with artists like david bowie, attrition extrawelt and daf. if you take a closer look on his artistic activity since the early 80ies ever then you will quickly realize there is a whole universe to uncover foald from around this artist. our suggestion: start with this fine ep, featuring a hidden secret artwork that unveils in the dark.

with his third release of the bella avgvsta series, daniel bortz shows that augsburg offers more then its famous puppet theater. the opener don’t forget your sword provides crystal clear techno, discreetly interrupted by accented fades of an exotic theme. with rolling dub sequences, decent recurring swishes and a peacefull breaks jump in the water describes the impression to dive into the humid element. lonely soldier then provides more power again. the basic theme which is dominated by a minor tone displays an inner unrest created by the unknown that is daily lurking out there for us. the beautiful deep dub-track hide from the sun finally plays with the change of shimmering heat and chilly shadow. who does not know the feeling on a hot open-air-afternoon to take an occasional time-out from the merciless burning sun. overall this is the most personal and deeply emotional release and as we think a worthy highlight and conclusion for the bella avgvsta series.

nutabe still traveling between sounds we like. dijon triathlon is the solo project of jose santamaria, who for the second reference of discos nutabe brings with him the synthetic and diminutive of house music. pandemia its an ep that returns to the early and mid-2000s, when the microhouse takes the worlds dance floor. three beautifully produced sound and impeccable cuts, where each element has a meticulous preparation and a single order. simple sounds that fill a full dijon triathlon style.

444/5/6 is the first four-track ep signed by unc on the very recently born techno label aiia recordings based in lyon, france. unc (also known as dubit) means « uncompromise » (unc0mpr0m153), even by laws and habits of techno, for a free production and a free interpretation of this music composed by this berlin based techno producer. 444/5/6 is blending different ways of sound creation, as if every element in life might be used in unc s music. some industrial samples are combined with dark techno basslines and ambient synths, attesting of the experimental side of the artist. in his work, unc is giving a true estheticism to sounds normally cold and impersonal in the context of daily life. 444 blends a kind of dark and deep samples which reverberate on an almost acid but hypnotic rythm.sloven s re-interpretation of 444 puts in this track, keeping the original samples, some digital sounds on a evolving rythm... like an heart, beating and racing along this track. 445 is the most electronic, rythmically speaking, track of this ep. still gathering techno, with adding industrial samples, which makes 445 the kind of experimental track by unc. 446 is the track which most refers to techno as it s known and produced nowadays. when soft and really high synths meets agressive and speedy rythms.

informa records comes with the 8th release of the series, symbiosis ep by deepbass (edit select, dynamic reflection) and reggy van oers (af fin, several reasons). the release consists of two original tracks, a side deepbass - symbiont is an ever evolving progression that lures you from the outset growing continuously before reaching a climatic peak staying within the hypnosis throughout. b side reggy van oers - tunnel dweller is a darker affair which focuses on the purity of each individual element within the track. with a sinister constant flow, seductive escalating atmosphere and subtle creative effects. the tracks complement each other nicely while showcasing the signature sounds of each artist.

vent adds yet again new sonic influences to its palette, this time owing thanks to its main curator tolga baklacioglu. with this release, we are pleased to add more than just a sprinkle of industrial and ebm influences to the catalogue of records we are proud to say is the sound of vent. to make things even better, one of more interesting techno producers as of late, and also sweden’s favourite son - daniel andréasson - wanted to lend us a hand to really bring the point home with this record. laden heavy with distortion, this release goes further than one can call the lofi sound - instead the thought is taken to its logical conclusion: distortion is as much an element in its own right as time, space and velocity.

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

we could call them the persuaders of disco: jestofunk member blade together with his friend leo tolu wanted to back to the italo 80s old-school. the house music sampling concept was strong and powerful element in all the jf related productions that blade wanted to keep also for this much fresh release. i don t wanna be drive to a nostalgic italo disco melody with a much groovy step... enjoy the summer... enjoy bella vita!

for moss co. s fourth release, and first solo artist ep, they look to londons antony difrancesco. antony s selective output on other london labels like fuse and othertones, has seen regular support from the highest echelons of house and techno. his enviable collection of hardware, and seemingly endless flow of creative ideas, are displayed brilliantly on mossv004. the record opens with vio - a mystical track, filled with toms, bass and groove tied together with ethnic strings and an eerie pad. left takes more of an experimental turn, with playful bass bouncing around the spectrum, complemented with analogue squelches. a beautifully warm pad brings an element of romance to the track, and crisp tops keep it dance-floor focused. on the remix, martinez uses his signature concealed sound to devastating effect, transforming track into a sleek, minimalistic, late-night affair.

lehar - flora & zephyr ep (feat. musumeci) approach with a strong recognition value, which may be the secret to his success. each element of -horizon remains in your mind after having listened to it. a guarantor for this summer, for sure. the closing title of this ep is -flora-, a timeless and alluring cut with a dub-techno approach. its subtle power comes from its deepness. it is simple but full of universal brilliancy. lehar - -flora & zephyr ep- (feat. musumeci).

on their 2013 debut album voyage, l.a. duo de lux introduced their singular sound, a fusion of post-punk, disco, funk and synth wizardry. fun though voyage was, described by the guardian as -intricate, witty, inventive, dazzling and by dj mag as fresh, immediate, for their follow-up, de lux felt compelled to add an element of social commentary to the mix.

statue is a new percussion-based dance project erected by two unique drummers, tom gould and nicolaas oogjes. having become known for laying rhythmic foundations of seminal melbourne dance bands worlds end press and no zu, the pair have now joined forces to unveil statue, a strange new landmark in the dance music landscape. combining raw material from synthesizers, and a combination of drum machine and live percussion, statue is a monument to the human element of dance music culture. drawing upon inspiration from the organic rhythm of acts like floating points, pachanga boys and ricardo villalobos they have forged a deep, minimal and unique signature sound that has taken shape in this debut release. commissioned by cutters records, built casts a peculiar shadow on the dance floor. prepare to be moved by statue!

title track joyride kicks things off with a straight up 909 beat, complete with scifi sweeps and classic wood block percussion, quickly working its way into an very subtle groove with every element working effectively to keep it fully funk laden. sideways completes the a side of the release and gets going right from the beginning. pumping percussion takes hold and hits the ground running before a perfectly weighted synth hook lashes over the top with henning playing with the synths lfo to creative effect. dust takes things down a notch as swirling pads drape themselves over a serious 909 beat. henning lets this one loop out, letting the subtle variations in the synths do the work as the 909 holds the beat solid and reminiscent of early berlin/detroit dub techno crossovers. mars attacks closes of the ep and does so in particularly fine fashion. a more broken beat affair this time from henning and he really works his machines into a sonic warfare of bass tones and tweaked out synths that sear through the crashing percussion workout.

nights are coming and going and faces appear and vanish, great plans are made and rarely held up to. while that is the mode that keeps the machine running, from time to time something greater can evolve out this fast paced spare time profession. that is to say, it is a great pleasure to smooth the way for our dear friend * kleintierschaukel* and his * blue elephant*. a rare species whose origins are found in * motomia* (a1), that odd place where sticky clocks tick faster than time passes. still all confusion is lost in the calm whispering of * juliette*(a2), a harmony of strange confidence. despite all its apparent harmlessness, it needs the soothing voice of our all beloved le- onie to let its vast figure withdraw to the rivers and show the gentle nature of this * unterwassermann* (b1). back in his element all notches are smoothed out and movements unite in a rythmic flow. this is not a documentary, this is the blue elephant: * tv ende* (b2).

eddy romero & frink were digging in the rock formations beneath earth s crust and have quarried a track which was forged into the newest schallbox-vinyl straight by the pressure of the continental plates! schallbox018 is an expedition through a scarcely lit tunnel, down into a mysterious and cryptic underworld. the tracks pull fiction and element unfold a maelstrom that takes us ever deeper down into a dark abyss. pull fiction in m.ins remix version is a percussive club monster that gives over to sparsely flickering lights revealing the way onwards, while the mystical voices in steve cole & ronald christophs remix of element take us back into the daylight again.
