der legendäre dj, musiker und produzent andrew weatherall adelte die aus newcastle stammende formation warm digits mit den worten: -machine funk kraut-a-delia - it�s rather lovely!- was man darunter verstehen darf? elemente von neu!, kraftwerk, giorgio moroder, my bloody valentine und boards of canada, welche die beiden musiker andrew hodson und steve jefferis mit hilfe von geradliniger percussion, elektronischen basslines, gitarren-riffs im stil von keith levene (the clash) und viel analoger wärme zu einem -krautophonic blizzard-wave- verbinden. das brachte den jungs schon supporttouren mit goblin, modeselektor, esg, st. etienne und dem moon duo ein. für sein drittes album hat das duo seinen sound weiter geschärft: -wireless world- wartet mit einem dutzend knackiger, treibender und melodisch reicher songs auf. zum ersten mal in der bandgeschichte kam es bei den aufnahmen zu kollaborationen mit lieblingssängern und -sängerinnen wie peter brewis (field music), sarah cracknell (saint etienne), devon sproule und mia la metta (beards). das album möchten hodson und jefferis als kommentar zum aktuellen weltgeschehen verstanden wissen, das ihrer ansicht nach auf der kippe zwischen feier und untergang steht.

nach einer ausverkauften europa-tour zu ihrem letzten album star climbing (2014) sowie festivalauftritten rund um den globus zogen zoot woman sich 2015 ins studio zurück, um mit der arbeit an neuen songs zu beginnen. und während die briten bisher nicht unbedingt zu den schnellsten bands der welt gehörten zwischen ihren alben lagen auch schon mal sechs jahre flutschte dieses mal scheinbar alles wie von selbst. wenn ein song nicht funktionierte, haben wir ihn sehr schnell fallen lassen, statt wie sonst ewig daran herumzufeilen, so johnny. dadurch ist die platte spontaner und intuitiver.

savage times fing als experiment an und dokumentiert die unmittelbare, künstlerische entwicklung hanni el khatibs. ursprünglich wurde der großteil der songs auf savage times bereits zuvor auf fünf eps nach und nach veröffentlicht. diese compilation vereint alle eps und enthält zudem vier weitere, neue bonustracks. el khatib startete das projekt im dezember 2015. die aufnahmen zu den songs wurden in jonny bells (crystal antlers) jazz cats studios aufgenommen. dafür fuhr hanni el khatib täglich von l.a. nach long beach. auf der stundenlangen autofahrt kamen ihm oft die ideen für seine tracks. hanni el khatib wollte sich nicht mehr auf ein genre festlegen und ließ sich einfach von seinem musikalischen instinkt leiten. sobald ein song fertig produziert war, veröffentlichte er ihn. savage times zeigt, wie wandelbar sein sound ist: garage rock, punk, disco, grime und hip hop fügen sich hier konsistent ineinander, über die eigenen grenzen hinweg

david lynch twin peaks kinofilm von 1992 erhielt 3 internationale auszeichnungen (alle für den kult-soundtrack von angelo badalamenti) und 5 weitere nominierungen. nach dem serien soundtrack und vor der neuen serienfortsetzung in 2017 erscheint auch dieser nun im neuen deluxe-format. das 180g doppel-vinyl erscheint in remastered qualität in kirschroter farbe und befindet sich in einem gatefold-sleeve, das wiederum von einem schwarz lackierten, formschön ausgestanzten aussenschuber umgeben und mit einem obi strip komplettiert wird. das neue artwork wurde sowohl von regisseur david lynch, als auch vom komponisten angelo badalamenti freigegeben. die neuen sleevenotes stammen von filmkritiker mark kermode.
