here we see italian brother duo elia and niro perrone, release their debut long player in the shape of ‘pescaiola’ the name of the suburbs the pair grew up and paying homage to their musical roots growing up together. across the duration of the ‘pescaiola’ lp easy to remember serve up a amalgamation of raw and intriguing electronic, house and techno cuts. opener ‘hanckora’ lays down a lo-fi infused hip hop style to kick things off, while ‘checkma dem’ lies in similar territory with the addition of some vocal stylings as well. for the most part though easy to remember lay the focus on emotive house music, title track ‘pescaiola’ plays on multi-layered melodies and retro synths, ‘hijack percussion’ focuses on gritty rhythm and soft atmospherics and ‘try to escape’ brings to light ethereal synth leads and snaking bass grooves. the duo instil some funk influence into the lp as well via ‘feelings’ and some experimental touches as well with their giulio etiope collaboration ‘degolas’ amongst others. all in all easy to remember deliver a refreshing take on modern electronica across the project and further prove unclear is a force to be reckoned with in the underground.

2016 repress ...the 2nd release on the new aniara label! this is one of the deepest, most intense tracks we have heard in a while! >sinai hypnosis< is a lush and relaxed tracks that slowly builds and builds and just dont push things as so many of the modern house records ... this is a fresh evening breeze slowly turning into a invisible silent tornado sucking you up and dropping you on cloud 9! this is probably the closest we have heard anything come to global communications without copying their sound. the title track comes as extended and dub version. flip side brings >mima<, another kind of ballad with a dubstep/two step beat and a soothing voice, leading you gently into new territories. (remember aniara 001 sold out in 1 week.. and so far never got repressed despite the demand! dont sleep!)

the nine-piece uk-based reggae unit enjoyed a measure of success in the latter half of the 70s. here s the debut album book of revelation from 1978, re-issued in the original artwork and 180 gram heavy weight vinyl, all re-mastered music and additonal leaflet with liner notes. the longplayer was recorded and mixed by the legendary mark angelo lusardi who worked also with dennis bovell, creation rebel, prince far i, public image limited, and who developed later an outboard eq / filtering device called the mutator, used by numerous recording artists including massive attack, radiohead and daft punk.

firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting us so far - 2016 has seen the dext label continuing to go from strength to strength, with our callahan and mella dee ep s backed with remixes from hodge and endian which have been been super well received. now for the third ep of the year from our resident comedian bodyjack. bodyjack has been an integral part of dext since he remixed dubspeeka on our 2nd release and headlined our label takeover of privilege in ibiza last summer. we are very excited about his return to the label with this 3-tracker (and our first full solo artist ep!), and we think you re going to dig this... the title track cobra effect is one of those tracks you aren t going forget in a hurry. intense and brooding, we are hard-pushed to categorise this, but layers of sinister bass coupled with dark, driving snares and eerie synth work culminate masterfully, making this the perfect dext track. hydra effect lifts the vibe with a straight up peak-time house jam with a sting in the tail. a raw-but-infectious bassline winds along under bodyjack s signature killer drum programming, before blasting off with something you aren t going to expect. rounding the ep off is slowine effect: a proper dancehall workout (reminiscent of bodyjack s earlier work) and a real cross-genre party starter. the most upbeat of the 3 tracks, this again takes all the elements of what we love about the music from the past and cleverly works them into something special for the rave. and that s not all for bodyjack on dext this year - he will be back with a one-off ltd record called -hot shot-, backed with a very special remixer...but more on that soon!

dating from the days of sade and smooth jazz, you might expect maya s moment in the sun to wear the fragrance of fromage, but the milk’s far from turning and the tropical groove is a sunny delight.

following the release of 2015’s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio’s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.

jeremiah r has been responsible for some of the finest electro to be released over the past few years, with his mini albums for tabernacle records being particularly potent. here he launches the distant wave label with eight more chunks of atmospheric, far-sighted futurism. as usual, he flits between ambient style interludes and more expansive dancefloor fare. in the latter category you ll find the motor city techno futurism of -bermuda triangle-, the glistening idm loveliness of -streaming to arcadia-, the larry heard-in-space deepness of -cruiser-, and the drexciyan throb of -jar (jamming avoidance response)-. all are, naturally, both luscious and pleasingly melodious, whilst retaining an intergalactic sense of atmosphere.

launched in 1996, ploink has been a core brand in norwegian techno for two decades now, booking the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, radio slave and richie hawtin, as well as launching a record label that champions scandinavian artists. with the likes of prins thomas, mental overdrive, nordenstam, mind over midi and label founder thomas urv appearing thus far, 96-16#3 is the third and final instalment in the 20-year celebratory releases.

alex suarez is part of a new breed of producers based out of brooklyn carving out their own unique sound experimenting in the world of raw primordial electronics. under the name cienfuegos, he has prior releases on brooklyn s primitive languages imprint as well as the france s unknown precept label-with his new -lost in god s country- ep we see him debut on the new york centered bank records. through the four tracks cienfuegos harkens back to the time of early industrial music, not far off from the early transmissions of spk or even hinting at sounds akin to e.g. oblique graph. suarez has a knack for developing textures and tension in his music sewing it all together with plodding rhythms and the occasional creeper vocal. heavyweight stuff coming most highly recommended.

argentine producer leonel castillo unveils yet another moniker with this new eponymous 77ks series. remaining the best-kept secret the latin american electronic music scene has brought to us so far, leonel is an icon and at the same time virtually unknown. a stylistic chameleon and an ultra talented jack-of-all-trades, he is hard to pinpoint, and even harder to categorize. surfacing at random, he’s been releasing music as leonel castillo and under various aliases – arnold slab, boeing or unknown artista are some of his monikers – on labels as diverse as ilian tape, sushitech, airdrop and his own imprint groovear.

heated heads delves into another dark corner of the american experiment, this time via the lone star state. graig clouse s shit & shine project has been a mainstay of the underground for well over a decade, having released unique sides for legendary labels like rhode island s load, riot season, gangsigns, powell s diagonal imprint, rocket recordings, conspiracy outta belgium and the inimitable editions mego, to name but a few. for this 12-, $&$ has invoked the ghosts of cb radio via the us trucking fraternity - 4 cut n shut jams that defy regular definition. backed so far by the likes ron morelli (l.i.e.s), the trilogy tapes, bill converse, jon k, nina (golden pudel), shapednoise

hard edged metallic beat techno, shawn o sullivan picks up right we he left off on his last -this coercion pt.i- ep earlier this year. again we get driving, sharp machine music not so far from the birmingham school of the 90s sound with this latest ep. o sullivan has a knack with eloquently pummeling the listener as demonstrated here, the track fully automated being the perfect example as it airs out midway through taking a break from the punishment. top stuff..

u has always displayed an unironic conformity to his own absolutely genuine/occasionally challenging ideal as to what a release should entail. after a series of predominantly, and (in the most loving sense) maybe begrudgingly, dance floor oriented eps, vienna orchestra is a long overdue insight into his core fascination as a musician, making complex and intriguing experimental pieces that belie the humble mode of their creation, recording from vinyl records and manipulating the audio on old school samplers. this lp is an insight into scores of hours of twiddling with loops and sequences to create music far removed from its source material (dusty classical records acquired on a trip to vienna). this is a dense, blunted world, which holds the sound of a musician indulging their own ear’s obsessions and insatiable curiosity.

bristols banoffee pies are back with their 11th edition. but as far it goes musically: this certainty aint bristol! starting out with the smoothly reduced tendencies of local lad christian jays rhotic which sounds inspired by the sounds of trelik, there s more of the same (albeit much dubbier and smoked out) on starry nite life courtesy of utrecht s larry de kat very paranoid afterhour vibes on this one! on the flip we ve got some more dubbed out fare courtesy of christian jay, again, who enlists a bit of help from crump on the rusty and dust coated gg3. all caps artist florist adds a touch of vancouver to proceedings with the squelchy dj tool blacky.

forceful, industrial and acidic, kamera’s ‘consignia’, taken from his ep ‘ventoux’, arrives reworked by two producers each as uncompromising as the source material. truncate steps up to delivers a remix that further encapsulates his precise vision of deep, raw techno. choosing to boldly strip back the foundations of the original track, his powerful rework performs subtle but precise surgery, creating a tense masterpiece of sustain and release, enveloping the dancefloor in thunderous claps and jittering rave samples. meanwhile, the so far elusive yaleesa hall is tapped for an offbeat, dub version of consignia, twisting the track into something altogether darker and stranger. a muddied, dare we say filthy bassline supports a chaotic framework of unpredictable drum patterns and mechanized noise, while still maintaining a hallucinogenic groove as the track’s original elements gasp for air underneath.

lastly, she owns the game is the most melodic of the lot, with a far sighted ripple of keys, spaced out atmospheres and muttered vocal lines all making for something that is truly from another world.

i-f, helena hauff & intergalactic gary favourite! double artist debut on bio rhythm, delivering its darkest release so far. despite all corporate techno gentrification rises mirror man, from the ashes of what once was this dirty dystopian hardcore heaven, and he s a mean motherfckr who has been battering us with his haunting dj mixes already for a while. on the flip the pleasure gets even darker with satanist west coast act leaders of the wild hunt on remix duties. the beauty of paranoia... perfect soundtrack for the summer of 2016.

over the course of four albums, manchester based trumpeter, composer, arranger and band-leader matthew halsall has carved out a niche for himself on the uk music scene as one of it s brightest talents. his languid, soulful music has won friends from jamie cullum and gilles peterson to jazz fm and mojo as well as an ever-growing international following. his label gondwana records is home to gogo penguin and his own albums have found halsall exploring the modal jazz of john and alice coltrane, paying tribute to the hard bop of the late ’50s and early ’60s or most recently on fletcher moss park drawing on eastern influences in his most personal statement yet. his latest album when the world was one is something of a companion piece to fletcher moss park (much of the music was written at the same time) but draws more explicitly on halsall’s love of spiritual jazz and eastern music as well as his own studies in meditation and travels in japan. beautifully recorded at hasall’s favourite studio, 80 hertz in manchester, and engineered by brendan williams and george atkins it features the recording debut of halsall’s large ensemble, the gondwana orchestra, which utilises the exotic flavours of harp, koto and bansuri flute and eastern scales to create a global palate for halsall’s life-affirming sounds.

our latest looking for mushrooms ep comes to us from a collaboration between long time dirt crew resident tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer grambow. we first heard from grambow when his fluid key stylings featured on tigerskins faint in 2015. the title track is a suspenseful and moody journey, lead by live double bass from feature artist das eb. building in intensity with tigerskins warm production and steady percussive instrumentation until grambows live lead on a gritty synth growls in over the top. a true modern electronic classic as far as we are concernred. tsukiji is a playful deep house groover. balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano which cruises along throughout the whole tropically touched endeavour. this track has party written all over it! octocat is a tougher italo disco tainted work out, tightly programmed live and analogue percussive elements push along, while wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. you can really taste and feel the long studio sessions the guys had to compose this great track. it is so much more than generic dance music. red fox is a divine culmination of the pairs compositional prowess and dance music knowhow. a cinematic and spirited house track that glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds. we are very honoured to release this outstanding musical release by tigerskin and grambow.

how to introduce the first record by wolfgang tillmans? now considered one of the most significant visual artists working today, his very first passion in life lay with music. this record features on its b-side three songs recorded in 1986 in his home town of remscheid. the a-side features two pieces recorded in 2015/2016.

baldos next ep is released on good ratio music, the label run by himself and his buddy carlo. as far as we remember the barcelona based producer had always an affinity for dirty drum-machines rhythms and buzzing analog sounds. baldo can be recognised by his choice of style, a fierce and confident house, pure in intent and effective in execution. and this is exactly what you should expect in this new ep. for the eighth instalment of the label they have the remix coming directly from nyc. the boss of lets play house, jacques renault has remixed the change, giving to the track a whole different mind to the track and making a round ep, ready to roll this summer.
