hello. we re very happy to announce the beginning of a new label. it has long been a hope of ours to someday establish a label to release our music, as well as an outlet for everything and anything we love and find inspiring. no compromises. introducing wulf. after years of sitting on un-released tracks some familiar and many others you will never have heard before we decided it was about time to make these available, freshly mastered. following on from ep1 and ep2 (originally released on alex nut s ho-tep records), the aptly named ep3 is the debut record on wulf. andrew harber and richard roberts aka letherette

it s no secret that idle hands is a label built on a foundation of dub. from the earliest releases by pev, kowton and szare through to more recent output from o$vmv$m and christian jay, the influence of bristol s soundsystem heritage looms large in the myriad electronic music threads the label encompasses. sometimes this influence is explicit, other times implied, but the principles of sub heavy, spacious music for both body and mind guide the stylistic arc of the label as a direct result of the label s long time immersion in roots and dub culture.

opening this essential release is the slow and spaced out groove of replicant v1, with fat synths and dark spacecraft sounds circling you as the drums grow ever bigger. shoulder of orion then drops into a rickety groove with soulful pads stretching off to the horizon as rough drums march below. proving he has real range, motor rotor is a deep and driving track that conveys a real sense of motion as it races along an intergalactic highway, and love on time picks up the pace yet further with twisted synths roaming free above a motorik kick and icy hi hats. last of all for the digital release, replicant v2 is a spacey and dramatic techno effort with widescreen pads and gurgling synths making for a turbulent ride. first vinyl bonus cut hang on is a forceful seven minutes of eerie and cosmic techno that stretches out in all directions as manic melodies rain down from above. lastly, traktion is full of ominous drones, crashing percussion and sombre pads and makes for a dramatic and driving track that is filled with pain

petroleum, cement, steel and plastic. (erdeol, zement, stahl, kunststoff) are four symbols of the unstoppable progress of the mankind. the four tracks from the new vinyl release on mechanical thoughts reflect the feeling of unstoppable, uncontrollable and in the same time the anxiety feeling of a dystopic future.

the visionary musician and record producer augustus pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. as with his friend and mentor, jackie mittoo, the man born horace swaby was of mixed indian and african heritage, and although his middleclass background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of jamaica’s sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. he began recording as a session keyboardist as the 60s gave way to the 70s, but everything changed when a schoolfriend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer herman chin-loy, credited to augustus pablo on release. during the early 1970s, pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring ‘best instrumental’ for ‘java’ in 1973, and launching the rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. this multifaceted compilation, first issued on bunny lee’s attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of lee’s greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as cornell campbell’s ‘queen of the minstrel’ and john holt’s ‘my desire.’ reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!

hand crafted from field recordings, junk percussion and charity shop keyboards, top002 sees scissorwork on wax for the first time. with an uncompromising diy approach to building tracks and attention to detail, he has distinguished himself from the crowd and gained real momentum since tracks started to appear online in early 2016.

btaim resumes its line of raw techno templates with a pair of stripped-back but funked-up floor killers. promising berlin-upstart tecture draws inspiration both from his hometown as well as detroit, delivering two highly effective yet emotive club weapons. their bold basement vibe may seem grim on the surface, but they glimmer with hope underneath. it is this very interplay between murk and melancholy that embodies the record with dynamic textures and a narrative. in similar fashion trevino pairs imposing low end rumble and bright arps, reworking the title track into his own dnb-reminiscent signature style. with the addition of btaim006 to their catalogue, both artist and label have placed themselves on this year‘s watch lists for sure.

an epoch is defined as an extended period of time typically characterized by a distinctive development or by a memorable series of events, and scott hansen, leader of the band tycho, has named their new album epoch with that in mind. the last installment in a trilogy, epoch is the culmination of more than a decade’s work that has seen the band evolving and maturing through two sublime releases dive (2011) and awake (2014), and developing from featuring hansen as a delicate solo performer into the iconic frontman of a powerful multi-layered live band performing on the world’s largest stages.

nathan bartell grew up in a little town called ashburn, georgia but soon moved to atlanta georgia where he began to perform in the night clubs. in 1973 he released “top going down, bottom going up” on the soul-po-tion label. bartell remembers: “at the time i was having family problems. my wife didn’t want me and i was deep in love. i felt at that time that i was at the bottom of the pit and i wanted to rise up out of that mess because my wife made me feel that i was a nobody. i was not good enough for her - nobody wants you when you are down and out. she felt that she were on the top and i was on the bottom. this song was a message at that time.” there is nothing for us to add except that we are delighted to bring this little beauty back to new life.

chicago’s own ricardo miranda is back on neroli with his latin soul brothas project. this time exploring the deeper sides of his sound with jams like ‘moog sessions’, ‘dizzy vibes’ and ‘friday grooves’. while ‘otra voz’ recalls some of his previous latin influenced tracks on neroli.

the first bleed release of 2017 welcomes another new artist to the fold. a seriously respected nyc based studio aficionado and close contemporary/collaborator of the bleed-released dj spider, phil moffa is also known for working alongside anthony parasole and seth troxler as well as releasing solo eps on the corner, most excellent unlimited and plan b recordings. the mass action ep features three original peak-time techno tracks, psychohistory, dodecahedron and decimation, with a remix of the latter by label boss volte-face, all primed for peak-time club play.

baertaub’s newest release wolke welcomes you with bazalt, a very tight and sharply shaped minimal techno track designed to awake your senses one by one from head to toe with small noisey cuts and bits that show their faces at certain times to draw a sonic geometrical map. next up is a relatively darker track rather than rain which again features those alien bits and is enriched with an unexpected and grande synth melody that somehow fits perfectly with the dark mood and alienating sound of the track. b side opens with the ztrl remix of bazalt which focuses on that witty geometrical face of the track and lifts it to an upper level with slowly building beats and hypnotizing loops. the ep closes off with the title track, wolke, which follows a very interesting trajectory: a tense sounding chord line is softened by a groovy bass and dubby touches and percussive samples which in the end provides an unexpectedly feel good ending to a positively minimal ep.

this opus was recorded in a room transformed into a studio, where countless hours of work happened on an old computer, with trips back and forth to the grocery to buy liters of soda. in between soundtrack, jazz-funk and house, the beginnings of this ep find their roots in the encounter between lucien and dj gregory (point g), spiritual guide, who pushed into an introspective work, where the feelings were ultimately revealed sincerely. this ep is also the meeting of 4 musicians whove known each other for a long time and, together, form lucien & the kimono orchestra.
