die orangen, aka aussie producers dreems & kris baha are teaming up for the first time with 2 new unreleased jams under their new alias. slow and atmospheric, yet punching and grooving die orangen managed to meltdown genres into 100bpm 11 minute long trippy trancey bonanza with a substantial amount of jungle psychedelia and heavy drum machines. one day in sheperton is a more drum oriented industrial power house tune. with the diggerido and distorted voices coming in towards its 2nd half. this ep includes, as expected from the malka tuti crew, with awesome remixes by italian maestros fabrizio mamarella (of slow motion records) and alessandro adriani (of mannequin records), oodandatta rain is an ep that throws the listener back to the early days of partying in anjuna beach, when trance was not yet a genre, but a state of mind, and where the tribal element could be found in all sorts of bizzarre contexts and remote corners.

claudio casalini s best record label does a fine job of reissuing funk, disco and other curios from the mists of time, and so it goes with this wonderful slice of loose and live soul jazz. grupo almendra hailed from venezuela, and they released their sole album almendra in 1978 in a whirlwind of latin american musicality and it had been consigned to relative obscurity. whichever digger was lucky enough to discover this gem must have been very pleased indeed, for the quality of the music and the production is nothing short of remarkable, while the remastering has respectfully revived the sweet, soulful sound of grupo almendra.

in 2016, the festival in prora releases another vinyl, and this time it is a real tasty tidbit. the boys from kiel, mitja & daniel mes, who also played at this year’s festival, included their track „feel free“ on the record. this track is the beach-echo and a perfect medicine against the winter blues. the second track originates straight from the island rügen, produced by the well-known irie island crew and holds the name „rügen rockt“. the name speaks for itself and through the well harmonized dub-swing reggae vibes be sure to be grooved from north to south of the small island. the backside of the vinyl is a piece of handcrafted art. the very distinct tag am meer logo is engraved through the help of a special technique called: etched. this record does not only sound good, but it also looks amazing.

a subtly appealing tape in a pink cover with an imposing artwork of highly erotic nuances: this cassette, originally promoted as candy-coloured sex-shop electronics, is the absolute gem of internazionale s discography and is clearly destined to become a timeless modern classic. together with the track the charnel house, included on the compilation ny dansk romantik, the excellent craftsmanship of elegy for the victors quickly evoked the loyal admiration of listeners worldwide who were captivated by its charm. this earned the danish artist a cult status and established him as an accomplished composer. the ambient music with an industrial flair of his earlier releases becomes organic in elegy for the victors and acquires life: a life depicting gorgeously melodious passages which tell a story of happy sadness or of sad happiness. such narrative is constructed by means of a lo-fi but majestic and emotionally charged sensitivity, gentle waves of haunting loops, cinematic samples and sweet maritime sounds which will hypnotise you. this is the long-awaited remastered vinyl reissue with a new artwork which, beautifully and more appropriately, captures the melancholic essence of a masterpiece of rarefied elegance.

mamie s records is a record-label curated by la mamie s that represents electronic music artists since 2016. based in paris and founded in 2007, the mamie s crew is collecting vinyls since their young age. they met some musicians along the way and they would like to share with you their crushes. the first one is kodäma... kodäma is a music duo formed in 2014 by kiala ogawa (singer and composer originally from japan and congo) and by t-time (bassist and composer). the word --kodama--, meaning --echo-- in japanese, also refers to spirits conveyed by trees and forests. according to the legends, these spirits are responsible for the the phenomenon in which the mountains echo. kodäma’s universe is very linked to kiala’s cultural sphere with, as a major source of inspiration, her childhood’s memories from the japanese countryside. kodäma is a subtle combination of electronic and acoustic sounds with kiala’s captivating voice, blending english and japanese. from this mixture of sounds emerges a spiritual, experimental music marked by their own neo soul groove

nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie. thats how belgian dj producer boogie belgique (aka oswald cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producers forte. this is pleasingly evident on volta, the latest boogie belgique album for the cold busted label. jungle law gives a glimpse into boogie belgiques sonic palette. tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. album opener go slow shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. its a beautiful concoction, and boogie belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

always human tapes are back for round two and this time it’s a fight to the death. label head ryan wurst assumes the identity of soul tangler once again and unleashes a brutal mix of raw electronics, knife edged percussion and jagged techno.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. on its second release, the fresh label eating records, native of brussels, embarks us on its most unlikely underground journey yet .the new project includes two beautiful tracks from the deep flows of house music, from the unfamous talented producer from kiev, io (mulen). there s no point in trying to place io or his music in some larger social picture. no need to talk about his intensive production. his successful releases can be found on imprints such as rejected (joris voorn), propaganda (nastia), elarum and his own mulen records which he started in 2012 and that released his stunning debut album within 2013. on flutes/creeps ep, he thrives on fantastic impossibilities including flutes and deep melodic basses. it is obvious that mister io had a wonderful time making the two tracks. flutes comes up as victorious and gallant. it is an energizing shock full of curious noises, mesmerizing musical surprises, a real dancefloor track. creeps is discreet and dark, and remains beautifully deep. this track finds io wrenching as much sweetness out of it as he possibly can, in return giving us our first indication that he is in a generous spirit. when this ep comes to an end, it feels like getting back from a good vacation: the last thing you want to do is re-enter the real world.

recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.

spring theory alumni sage caswell returns to the san francisco-based label to deliver his debut album hoop earring. it s an enigmatic record that comes from the producer s own movement through personal transformation. it follows 2015’s sleep quarters , caswell s introspective label debut, and offers 10 tracks spread out across two 12-s. hoop earring is heavily informed by surrealist visions and archetypal images from caswell’s past that have crystallized within the context of this longplay album. hoop earring successfully paints images with broad brushstrokes and allegorical song titles that allows one to fill in fine details of a landscape built within the framework ten songs. “ray of light 95’” alludes to a moment in time that smartly places you alongside an adolescent caswell while songs like “here we guard upon the soul” land locks squarely in the middle with a poignant, nail-on-the-head statement. -zora scales (step 1)- provides a focal reference to the fantasy world that this album might be the soundtrack to.

italian duos nice7 & dirty channels join forces for the first time to deliver the acid induced feelings ep on crosstown rebels. the release features two exceptional originals with torontos nathan barato bringing his signature heavy sounds into play for the remix. nicola daniele and cesare marocco aka nice7 are amongst the latest italian stars to emerge in dance music. since 2005, the year in which the two of them paired up, they have released on labels like noir music, get physical, remote area, suara, defected and gruuv. dirty channels are simone & leme, who started working together in 2008 after long single dj careers. releases soon followed for big labels such as josh wink s ovum, hot creations sub-label hot waves and culprit la as well as licenses on several defected compilations. nathan barato worked his way onto the world stage with releases on the likes of cajual, saved and hot creations. 2016 also saw him as resident for jamie jones paradise at dc10 in ibiza. here he delivers a punchy remix to dominate the dancefloor, centered around a hefty bassline, tight drum patterns and slick vocal cuts.

karim sahraoui, known by releases on labels such as transmat, cocoon and arts, as well as dj appearances on boiler room and on dancefloors all around the world, makes his debut on off recordings. book of life is a melodic techno track in karim s signature style. warm and emotional, albeit with a strong drive for the dancefloor, it can set a strong accent in a set. italy s dast created a slamming peaktime techno interpretation, which is sure to create a massive effect on the dancefloor. syncopated chords and a rolling groove build towards an epic break. -exodus- is aptly named as a perfect track to close the set by the end of the night. lush and warm pads and melodies evoke a warm and optimistic atmosphere. anton pieete remixed exodus with a minimalistic and more groove-focused interpretation. altogether an ep with a timeless feel, spanning the borders between techno, house and electronica.

evod, oisel and syntaxism return with their -e.o.s.- collaboration. luna crescente is composed by two strong tracks that have different appearance, but same nature. orbita x is a slow track that contains granulated, ferrous sounds, accompanied by a pulsating oscillator and various sharp ambient sounds. orbita y is a strong tune in which, almost during all the time, there are an intense groove and a sequenced modal oscillator

sit reinterprets wareika on side b: a more dancefloor oriented take, with just a few breaks from the devilish rhythm, enough to give the crowd some time to breathe into the tracks odd atmosphere. wareika s playful harmony makes a great addition to amphias musical path.

i walked by night is a new label created with the ethos that comes from the foundations of any good resident dj, that of good selection. label boss krysko, who has held residencies for over 16 years, brings his experience to his new label. the debut release comes from tristan grace, a uk based artist (aliases - oe & prime time crew). raised propping up record store counters on the south coast since his early teens, now lives pretty isolated from current club culture. nothing beats being in the storm of a dance floor, but being able to step away from the pull and draws of the scene allows him to diarise his occupational exposure through trax. inspiration from the motor city and acid sound lies at the heart of what he does. influenced by rolling green hills, and surrounded by the analog soul of his machines - he has an addiction to vintage machines of asian origin, valves, and its fair to say, he lives his life in 16 step sequence. the furse ep moves across the width of his sound, and this being his debut release on i walked by night, there will be many more to come.
