having previously lent her quirky voice to the london based cosmic jazz collective nostalgia 77 and renowned german beatmaker dexter, josa peit settled into the lab and developed an intriguing musical sphere of her own. on her debut ep constellation, josa peit has crafted her own brand of soul miniatures, emerging under influences of house, disco, krautrock, psych, and hip hop.

mono junks label dum records is back! in 1994 an untitled 12” ep emerged from helsinki, finland. it was produced by an unknown duo called coopers and released by dum records. that particular squelchy sounding piece of wax helped to establish the sound that was later to be known as finnish minimal techno. alongside sähkö recordings, dum was one of the mainstays of gloomy northern electronics until its death in 2007. after an extremely long hiatus both dum records and coopers have now resurrected and instead of their trademark minimalism they offer now a 3-piece ep full of techno maximality! * indian acid* is a wonky excursion in repetition topped with roland corporations classical tr-727 congas, * ixam* takes you back to the soundscapes of 90s dreary finnish acid and * maximal fun* is a 12-minute trip to the electronic kraut techno madness of the coopers. play loud and preferably in dark. coopers are back with a vengeance!

archie pelago is a trio from brooklyn. greg plays cello, zack plays saxophone, and dan plays trumpet and works the knobs. the archie guys did one of the very first releases on mister saturday night records, and we’re very happy to have them back – especially with such brilliant tunes. the a side, clammy customer, takes dozens of twists and turns, weaving in vocals by the always excellent gabriel garzon-montano, and the b side, madame suede nightshade, was apparently made with us in mind (check the initials). both sides are tried and tested on our dancefloor and cut at 45rpm for maximum oomph.

siren sind darshan jesrani (metro area, startree) und dennis kane (disques sinthomme, ghost town). sirens erste ernsten recording sessions fingen im winter 2013 an, aber die anfänge ihrer zusammenarbeit reichen weiter zurück bis zu ihren gemeinsamen residencies im berühmten new yorker hot-spot apt und anderen parties, die sie organisierten. events mit namen wie camille 3000, adult section und strobe lodge wurden liebevoll gestaltet, mit gewagt romantischen grafiken und einem prägnanten spezifischen statement, dass kultiviertheit und sünde stets zusammen gehören konnte und immer sollte. sirens erste maxi * gauntlet* ist ein unbändiger und satter song, der alles von heavy disco, über westafrikanische gitarren, soundtracks und filmmusik, bis adrian belew mit einbezieht. veröffenlicht auf compost im herbst 2014, wurde sie sowohl von top-djs, als auch von der presse gefeiert. ihre zweite single * a/way* mit mr. reed bildet nun einen stolzen und kühnen kontrast zur ersten 12 inch. ein sonniger, luftiger trip, ein triumphsong für einen ungehemmten, selbstbewussten lebensstil. geerdet durch eine markante aber eingängige bassline, die an norman whitfield erinnert, und verziert mit bläser-parts, die einen hauch von burt bacharach mitbringen, wird der song von einem zügellosen, fröhlichen gitarren-groove angetrieben, der den spirit vom aufgeweckten rock & roll der späten 60s & 70s in sich birgt. die sich erhebende, klagende stimme von mr. reed schnürt alles zu einem glorreichen, bittersüßen paket, welches direkt für das herz bestimmt ist.

”love will remember pharaon de winter” is said at the end of the record. pharaon de winter was a painter from north of france, who lived from the end of the xixth century to the beginning of the xxth century. today, pharaon de winter is reappearing again. it’s a band, but also the name of a song, which changed everything for his author. past leader of both bands toy fight and (please), maxime chamoux was playing since now a genre between north american rock of spoon and neutral milk hotel, and sophisticated british pop from prefab sprout or xtc. we find today in this new project songs navigating between french, for most part, and english. partners and friends since a long time, thomas pirot at the drums and raphael ankierman at the bass are playing alongside fx guéant-mata at the guitar. we also find mina tindle and her delicate voice appearing here and there. at last we don’t forget the goldsmith’s talent of canadian musician sandro perri who’s joining the band, highly recommended by pitchfork magazine with his album impossible spaces in 2011.

as earlier compilations of danza meccanica have taught us, italy gave birth to a disproportionate number of synth-pop, new wave and electronic acts in the 80s. mannequin goes deeper into the italian new wave archelogical research with a killer 10 tracks selection of carmody. picking their name from a science fiction novel titled dimension of miracles by robert sheckley, carmody were coming from torino, as their pairs monuments and chromagain. started as a duo (alberto ramella and andrea lesmo) and later a trio with max casacci joining in as a guitar player, carmody recorded from 1981 to 1985 and issued three incredibly rare demo tapes. sleep on mirrors compiles the best tracks from those tapes, bringing you one of the most peculiar 80s minimal synth music coming out of italy

bon voyage is an ever-shifting constellation of musicians led by paris-based producer and bass player adrien durand. durand was first spotted in 2009 by jamal moss, boss of renowned chicago label mathematics recordings, which released durand s solo effort (impersonnel naviguant) under the moniker les aéroplanes. that first record, done using a very academic house music setup consisting of an eight-track cassette recorder, a drum machine, a cheap analog synthesiser and an even cheaper sampler, caught the attention of such dj s as beautiful swimmer and toby tobias. for his bon voyage project, durand recruited drummer nicolas ballay and keyboard player/engineer maxime kosinetz. while opening for legendary italian dj daniele baldelli, the band caught the attention of chicken lips s steve kotey, who released bon voyage s first two records (sorciers des aéroports, l imposture) on stendec, a new imprint created for the occasion

after a series of prized splits and collaborations, m_rec ltd s own max_m returns with dissertation , his latest fully-fleshed solo effort. the kidnapper bell was his last ep for m_rec ltd. the avid vinyl lover and collector has since put his -maximalist- values to work sharing wax with the likes of fabrizio lapiana of attic music, as well as with newcomers wrong assessment. not one to rush things, dissertation then comes at a peak time for max_m and m_rec ltd, representing the culmination of a ceaseless dedication to the type of stolid, hypnotic brand of techno intrinsic to both chief and label.

kangaroo skull is the solo project of rohan rebeiro - drummer of renowned australian trio my disco. heavily percussive and rhythmically complex, kangaroo skull meticulously pieces together soundscapes within max msp, with an end result that conceals in its raw simplicity the intensity of the process. with multiple tours outside australia already behind him, australian dancefloors have been keenly awaiting a first release. palace of nothing is his much-anticipated debut - four tracks that convey a sophistication far beyond what could be expected from such a new producer.
