hvnx is a new hivern sub-label focused in concept eps and mini-albums from artists in the label’s orbit. the series will be a platform for more adventurous sounds, with a special accent in techno and hard ware jams. every release will include a photocopied inlay with a mood board of the artists inspiration for that release.

on the a side scm provides the perfect blend of analog synths, heavy kick drums and a badass bass line ranging from fuzzy voices to contagious latin samples. on the flip the berlin based label delivers a very rare recordings of his guest chicago’s jordan fields. these experiments were recorded directly to tape and lost till now!

glasgows junto club return with their second ep. in their own words. this is the second in our planned trilogy of junto club eps. if the first was the birth of the junto club, this is the middle-aged existential crisis. we ve followed the same ethos as the first ep, allowing the music to develop organically rather than being restricted by considerations of genre. naturally, this was shaped by our experiences of the first ep.

mark e last delivered on futureboogie back in november 2014, so it’s a welcome return to the label for the birmingham based dj & producer. with his merc imprint running on full steam, and previous releases on revered labels like spectral sound and running back, mark is becoming an ever dependent exponent of the real and raw house music vibe, and no more so than on the basement trax ep. basement trax 1, distorted synths wander over a low-slung beat, the marching hi-hats and filter work are tweaked to perfection. it’s a track of basic elements, but done so well, the arrangement building steadily and bags of warmth and soul deep at the heart of this track. the gnarly bass and classic string sounds of basement trax 2 make an ideal companion piece to the a side. delivered in the finest wild-pitch tradition, the raw sounding production packs a punch as the stomping drums and repetitive keys ramp up the heat for a real blazer of an underground club cut.

northside ‘82 is proud to welcome smart bar resident savile to the label for our second release. entitled suffer play, this three track ep imagines an alternate reality where minimal house takes an extended detour through chicago, strapping on the city’s famous jacking percussion for a more robust but equally razor sharp sound. “spaced” opens the record with a jolt of jacking house, pairing a limber bass line with tense percussion and pinpoint vocal samples. “1pm morning” is inviting and warm, a richly crafted environment lit by by resonating bass, wallpapered with sharpened guitar strums, and decorated with jangling percussion and clavinet accents. closer, “recipes from nowhere”, is the dreamiest of them all, letting melodies bubble around the track’s bass line backbone and swaddling listeners in melancholic pads. altogether an exceptional record from one of the city’s brightest young.
