we are new york bound for the second release from rex music, as we invite the charismatic boss of soul people music, fred p-aka black jazz consortium to bring us an exquisite ep, which holds true to his persona: elegant, deep and refined. like the chronology of a day, evolving from dawn to dusk, fred p takes us on a journey through three well-crafted tracks to compose an intimate ballad. ‘wave patterns’ sets the tone with a smooth, airy atmosphere – minimalist yet progressive, it will have you enraptured as the subtle pads weave in and out of the background, dancing a pirouette with the low end. the dubby, hypnotic ripple of the bass ushers in a bright glow like sunrise at the beginning of a glorious day...from there, we move on to side b where ‘continuous sensation’ accompanies us until sunset. soothing and playful, with a delightful string riff and mellow, warm bassline, it’s full of the joys of the daytime. finally, fred p closes out the ep with a harder, more angular workout. ‘unbroken circles’ is made for the twilight hours, when the sun has set and we’re wrapped up in a warm, dense evening. simple, mysterious and crisp… a great way to finish up an outstanding ep from our man, fred p
