shortly after aussteiger s successful debut on dub disco we knew exactly that we wanted our long time friends s&w on board for our second release. these guys have been a huge influence on us for a long time now. first we fell in love with their eclectic and powerful dj sets and when we heard the demos of these hardware nerds we were truly blown away. when we asked them to produce our second release they handcrafted this ep full of lovely analogue sounds for us. it surely stands in contrast to the first record and by that underlines exactly what dub disco is about: a journey through the vastness of electronic music.

undo (gabriel berlanga) introduces his third album disconnect, with ten songs written, recorded and produced during 2015 and 2016. on disconnect undo blends different influences using both new and old analogue gear combined with digital plug-ins and fx to create his own recognizable sound after more than 10 years on the road. opening track disconnect finds undo playing with psychedelic synths and singing shyly. we also hear vocals but in a very diferent mood onthe funny, funky and sexy computer friends and on autómatas, an electro cut that demands a reaction against the established injustice. there are vocals as well on the last track of the album, this time with an epic vocoder because at the end weve got to fight. djs will likely gravitate toward the unstoppable trance synth of the arptist, the chug-techno tension on acid prophet, the shuffled beats and endless harmony of setembre and the dreamy melodies of interferencias and sunmachine.

claudio casalini s best record label does a fine job of reissuing funk, disco and other curios from the mists of time, and so it goes with this wonderful slice of loose and live soul jazz. grupo almendra hailed from venezuela, and they released their sole album almendra in 1978 in a whirlwind of latin american musicality and it had been consigned to relative obscurity. whichever digger was lucky enough to discover this gem must have been very pleased indeed, for the quality of the music and the production is nothing short of remarkable, while the remastering has respectfully revived the sweet, soulful sound of grupo almendra.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

in 2016, the festival in prora releases another vinyl, and this time it is a real tasty tidbit. the boys from kiel, mitja & daniel mes, who also played at this years festival, included their track feel free on the record. this track is the beach-echo and a perfect medicine against the winter blues. the second track originates straight from the island rügen, produced by the well-known irie island crew and holds the name rügen rockt. the name speaks for itself and through the well harmonized dub-swing reggae vibes be sure to be grooved from north to south of the small island. the backside of the vinyl is a piece of handcrafted art. the very distinct tag am meer logo is engraved through the help of a special technique called: etched. this record does not only sound good, but it also looks amazing.

nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie. thats how belgian dj producer boogie belgique (aka oswald cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producers forte. this is pleasingly evident on volta, the latest boogie belgique album for the cold busted label. jungle law gives a glimpse into boogie belgiques sonic palette. tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. album opener go slow shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. its a beautiful concoction, and boogie belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.

spring theory alumni sage caswell returns to the san francisco-based label to deliver his debut album hoop earring. it s an enigmatic record that comes from the producer s own movement through personal transformation. it follows 2015s sleep quarters , caswell s introspective label debut, and offers 10 tracks spread out across two 12-s. hoop earring is heavily informed by surrealist visions and archetypal images from caswells past that have crystallized within the context of this longplay album. hoop earring successfully paints images with broad brushstrokes and allegorical song titles that allows one to fill in fine details of a landscape built within the framework ten songs. ray of light 95 alludes to a moment in time that smartly places you alongside an adolescent caswell while songs like here we guard upon the soul land locks squarely in the middle with a poignant, nail-on-the-head statement. -zora scales (step 1)- provides a focal reference to the fantasy world that this album might be the soundtrack to.

savage grounds return to lux rec for the third time, with their third record. atrocities comes after unpleasant music for unpleasant people, released in 2015, and over fences, 2014. it is, as much as the previous 2, the result of investigations in music, live, composed with a minimum amount of instruments. the duo, comprised of cco and daniele cosmo, worked with a roland 606, a roland 909 and a modular synthesiser. experimenting with fm modulation and loose sequences. the result is concrete noise, anger, ghostly voices, and above all, the sheer conscience of human failures. atrocities marks number 30 in the lux rec catalogue. it comes as a 12inch + 7inch package.

on local talk s 74th release it s about time to get real...and we re not only talking about the music! this a heavy and political record that through music expresses the constant struggle for many african americans living in the us today. or like jamie 3:26 said after he first heard sameed s initial version - it instantly hit me with the raw pain and emotion of the lyrics. there is so much struggle in the world today, many black men and women are in emotional, mental and spiritual battles. the message is delivered over two tracks, testify and can t u . both tracks are using the same themes and samples but with a distinct difference on the end result. on the a side we find chicago legend jamie 3:26 teaming up with amsterdam s new shining star masalo (brighter days crew) for a gospel inspired disco / house jam that comes with a slight warehouse feel and a thumping bassline that is 100% on point on the flip sameed is back on local talk with can t u . a track that uses the same foundation as testify but instead goes straight for that dirty disco knock out punch...heavy stuff! as an extra bonus we also included dusty jazz , a fender rhodes driven jazz-house cut from sameed that sounds like it comes straight from a dark juke joint in manchester.

wareika steps up for the amphias 12th vinyl chapter. the german trio walks off the beaten techno trail, applying just enough pressure on the bassline pedal to envelope your attention on the sinusoidal theme from break new sol, revealing at the end a rewarding guitar solo, hidden all this time under the crisp percussions. on a train again completes side a, with its industrial ambient modulations steadily stabbed by the derailed cadence.
sit reinterprets wareika on side b: a more dancefloor oriented take, with just a few breaks from the devilish rhythm, enough to give the crowd some time to breathe into the tracks odd atmosphere. wareika s playful harmony makes a great addition to amphias musical path.
