an imaginary country continues from the trajectory of tim heckers last album, the critically acclaimed harmony in ultraviolet, while also showing a few new tricks. tim has incorporated more pulses into this work and also works with a sound pallete including overdriven mellotron strings and synthesizer. at times this album is less overtly aggressive than previous works, but the notion that this is pastoral work would be dead wrong as there are plenty of the agitated crescendos that he is know for. this music backs off from the void of immensity in favor of a terrain of lushness and warmth.

when luke solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with local talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we have been fans for a long time and mats actually booked him to his raw fusion club in the late 90s. he has been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. we couldnt agree more. lost channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby new york inspired house track comes in two versions. the raw & stripped version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with lukes trademark percussion sprinkled on top. the live piano version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. bubbly fx, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline. for remix duties it is the return of an old local talk friend, wil maddams. it seems like wil has spent some time in detroit since last time. this remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the d, his clever drum programming holds this track together with its deep pads and bubbling bassline. it is a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.

booka shade are set to release crossing borders featuring fritz kalkbrenner from their 2013 album eve on embassy one / blaufield music. booka shade first met fritz when he asked them to remix one of his songs, as we are fans of his voice, we thought it would be a great idea if he would sing a vocal for one of our demos for the new album. he came to our studio with the lyrics of crossing borders and within 1 hour, the song was recorded. crossing borders is enriched with acoustic and chilling electronic tones and demonstrates the trials and tribulations of the every day struggle weve got to go on, even if we stray, crossing borders to another side

we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

the new year starts with the welcome news that the cosmologist returns with episode three of the cosmology series. trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70s radical firebrands the last poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, *its a trip*. a loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on may 19.1968 to mark malcolm xs birthday, having all met at east wind, a harlem based writers work shop. they took their name from a revolutionary south african poet keorapetse kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun. continuing that thought, civil rights for african americans was very much the beat of the last poets, a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

selected pulls together material from mostly unfamiliar names like deepjust aquabeat, bassik grooove and bobby o donnell, alongside a couple of established heads like ryo murakami, aybee (as orion 70) and fred p himself, whose > n.y. (selected dub)<, a reshape of an old jazz tune, rounds out the compilation. > in the early days it was difficult to afford more than one or two records..< i would buy compilations because the value was greater and i was exposed to artist that i might not have known about otherwise,< he says. >when i think of compilations i think of mix the vibe, soul of science, trust the dj and of course dj-kicks. i learned a great deal from these series over the years and developed my own ideas based on what i love to hear thus selected was born. released soul people musics new sub-label, boards.

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

michigan native todd osborn, also known as soundmurderer, also known as osborne, also known as superstructure… ran the first drum & bass record store in the detroit area, the legendary dubplate pressure shop and would later own his own label, rewind records. todd has also built airplanes, computers and hovercrafts. or has he? at this point we need to just accept a mystery.

dungeon meat is the new label and production outfit brought to you by dungeon masters brawther and tristan da cunha. packing a serious punch, its aim is to present tracks designed specifically to rock the party and shake the sound system. originally conceived as a platform for their own musical visions it soon became apparent that they would have to open the doors to a select few who shared their ambition to make no messing, hard hitting house grooves. one of these artists is the mysterious blunt instruments who has the honour of kicking off the label. after road testing his huge club hammer hold back brawther and da cunha knew it had to be on dungeon meat as it epitomised exactly the sound they wanted to present. hold back has been a firm fixture in their sets and even got cut to dubplate by jeremy underground paris. its not all about the a-side though as blunt instruments craft 2 other killer club cuts for the flip side we wont go on too much trying to describe how good this ep is ... instead well let the music do the talking

quite simply, mike storms one target is one of my favourite techno tracks of this year. intense, funky, hypnotic, this is a total bomb. full support in the clubs and charting on ra and juno. thought it would be hard to follow up binnys millsian madness but this release fucking rocks mate, cant wait to get it on vinyl

with david mayers share of keinemusiks current workparty edition still providing solid fuel for heated clubfloors, he already shovelstwo fresh loads into the furnace. km021 has just surfaced in a moment when electrified techno-music seems to drown in an ocean of preset-dullness. well, mayer has come to provide a rescue tool with his sunhole on side a. youll recognize this somewhat trademark-becoming percussive fetish of mayer as this tracks modus operandi. yet, it has rarely been as detailed and surgically implemented as in this banger. whats that – a second hand ticking? and over there – is it a woodpecker in the field? sunhole supplies all the answers in a thumping, yet no friskiness avoiding manner. youll get a stoically rolling beat, asphalting the floor, to build a cannonproof foundation for thisarrangements main attraction – a filtered and delay-heavy synth-affair.flip around and find a competitive jamboree of subtle background-brainwaves other would straightaway use as lead-ideas for their tracks. well, this matchingly titled lead comes in with a hard hitting kick and gets into the groove via filter-rides to peak into clanking noisy industrial-thunder that immediately will electrify every steel-toe in hearing range. generally - only roughness in this cut, crispy bounce and ghostly whispers all over. most definitely for the win, this double broadside.

what might happen if one would tuck the moulin rouge in a london warehouse, banned the glitter, burned down the tinsel and raised the volume the debut album of hamburg based clark davis is exactly showing that, seducing by every trick in the book with irresistible, easy going grooves and nasty beats

the cronenberg referencing crimes of the future label from messrs. fairplay and fraser gathers further pace on their second release, looking across the atlantic and focussing on the enigmatic works of elizabeth merrick jefferson. from her detroit base, jefferson has one previous release to call on in the shape of the urban off road 12 inch for the argot label. the promise demonstrated there is explored further within the context of this four track quetzalcoatl 12 inch for cotf, expounding colourful take on detroit house filled with rich star gazing qualities that would attract the attention of timothy and scott.

hip hop did not develop in a vacuum - its roots can be traced back to the earliest afro-american music, and the folks who were influenced by these sounds along the way. this lp compiles some of the great recordings that showcase the spoken word and street culture put forth from the 1920s through the 1960s that would go on to influence the entire rap music genre. the themes will be familiar - religion, politics, black experience, badass gangsta rap, speed, sex, drugs and rock n roll. lets listen to the lessons that the hipsters of the past taught the rappers of today.

block rocking, pop locking lonely c and baby prince are at it again with their latest fraiche ep on soul clap records. the troublemaking two-some take us back to 2011. it was a weekend in late august and new york city was practically under martial law. news tickers warned frightened citizens that a hurricane called irene would strike at any minute, flooding most of manhattan and williamsburg where the boys sat gleefully snacking and talking shit inside the world famous marcy hotel. with all airplanes grounded and the trains halted it became clear that lc & bp were going nowhere. it began to rain, the wind picked up and as the skies darkened, nyc declared a state of emergency.

the legendary mark reeve delivers his very first techno ep on mb elektronics. starting this ep is the metamorph. definitely would be one of the highlight releases of this year. it features an exquisite and devastating bassline.

the late 2010 album soulbooster from command strange is now split in two parts for the collectors. plate 2 contains you cant touch this.. command strange takes the vibe down a bit for a vibing deep roller for those special moments.. if r&b could be d&b then this would be its slow jam..for the last side we turn to want you back.. one last time we crank it up a notch with some good ol rolling breakbeats and smooth piano touches.. a brilliant jazzy roller with a vibe like no other

marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell welcome the disco master al kent into the fold with the two track yes i cant 12 inch. al kent is a true original. not interested in anything but disco. dying his hair in a truly unique fashion, to match the sparkle of disco balls and having recently hired an octopus to help him chop up those records. both *yes i do* and *cant stop* highlight the glaswegians importance to keeping the true spirit of disco alive, deftly and tightly edited in a manner that would impress messrs hardy and gibbons were they alive today.

there are certain moments and event that can redefine a nation and a culture. the 1987 1988 acid house explosion was such a moment in our time that it did capture a nation and a forged a new era in modern music. acid was such a taboo in the late 80s in the uk that law officials thought that the music insight mass use of acid and everyone would space out, and that was far from the truth. but what is true that some guys from chicago created a sound that the world einbraced and continues to embrace to this day.

for its fifth release, brstl continues on its mission to unearth fresh and exciting artists from bristols electronic music scene, this time showcasing the debut release from idle hands employee shanti celeste. regular clubgoers in the city will have almost certainly heard her display her penchant for heavily swung rhythms in her dj sets, and her 12-inch for brstl manages to distil this passion into two elegantly produced house music groovers. recently unveiled on outboxxs podcast for resident advisor, the soulful new jersey-esque skip of >need your lovin< (baby) takes up the a-side, its gliding rhodes chords and playful melodies being propelled by a tough and irresistably funky beat that kerri himself would be proud of. over on the flipside, >result!< offers up a more heads-down vibe, channelling those swung beats into an upbuilding, synth-smeared house jam.

after the vocal treatments and acid lines of tallmen 001, moog feedback comes rumbling through as tallmen 002 kicks in. multi joins as a co-producer for d220 ghosts of guitar and synth lines weave in and out as it picks up momentum, the kick drum planted firmly in the chest plate and swirling high-hats complete this burner of a track. floating ground returns to acid but not as one would expect. a simple melody turns into a strange animal, flying at once into outer-space then landing squarely on the 1, this is not your average acid tune.

in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

it seemed obvious that a club such as le spartacus would eventually launch its own label. for their debut ep, club residents medeew & chicks luv us decide to partner with mesrod & avner to create 3 tracks filled with deep & dub techno sounds. to complete this release, jun akimoto brings his savoir-faire with a dub remix that only he could have mastered. 300 limited vinyl!

when the house music phenomenon was beginning, chicago djs like ron hardy and new yorkers such as frankie knuckles and larry levan would edit records for their own purposes, removing the parts they felt to be superfluous, concentrating instead on extending grooves and hooks, often adding their own basic synth lines and toughening up the percussion with what have now become classic synthesizers and drum machines. warehouse classics vol.2 holds 4 killer tracks going from obscure disco to new wave, first popularised at the music box and rarely heard anywhere else. this time we have the rare luck to get detroit legend (u.r. keyboard player) niko marks joining forces with 4 astonishing & devastating versions of tom tom club, abc, donna summer & marvin gaye. musically, its as delightfully funky and uncomplicated as youd expect, a mesh of disco tracks and heavy, effect laden, machine-funk. essential item !!

polymath james leyland kirby must surely have one of the most confounding cvs in the business: he spent years taking the piss out of the music industry with anthems rallying against the (vv)mcps, he notoriously fell out with various well known record labels for reasons you ll just have to google, goaded aphex twin with a series of tributes and channelled his love of everything from falco (rock me amadeus), chris de burgh, frankie goes to hollywood and stockport karaoke nights into a stream of increasingly bizzare 7 s back in the early noughties. but at the same time he was responsible for releasing some of the very earliest material from boards of canada (hell interface: 1997), made a ruck of frankly groundbreaking industrial electronic records, brought new beat to the worlds attention and, in 1999, made his first album as the caretaker, a project that would go on to release some of the most loved ambient/ lynchian albums of recent times.

this is necro deathmorts first foray in the world of vinyl. and, as you would expect again, it is yet another change of pace for the duo, supplementing their doomy ambience and whirlpools of 23hz low-end with 70s evil filthy synth and 90s harsh, pummeling techno, with frequencies cutting, slicing and bursting all over the place. think the likes of the the tuss, goblin, underground resistance, john carpenter, maybe even tangerine dream, surgeon, or the horrorist.

he rothmans label combines an unlikely link between football statistics, some of the best (or worst) haircuts to grace the european version of the game, with jacking drums and acid-based rhythmics. the label dedicates its third ep to french striker dominique rochetea, with a various artists ep as strong as the back four of arsenal s 98 fa cup winning side. the nigel winterburn of the release is coyote s without the e , a squelchy and balearic groove with psychedelic vocals not too far off from dj koze mrs bojangles . aimes and scott fraser provide the ep with the composure of tony adams and the brute force of martin keown with their respective synth-led productions the kontemplation of kosmic order and heat for dust , while on the right - a would be lee dixon - drvg cvltvre, supplies the master builder , an ebm and industrious dancefloor workout.

oneoffs volume 3 offers just like the previous volume four new cuts from four different producers. first up we got swedish producer jonas rathsman and *yes i am*, a lush deep house track that is both heartfelt and sublime. let it breathe on a large sound system for maximum effect! ending the a-side is duo twinpeaks funk-fuelled ride *not that tech house - dj tool dropped by paris hilton you were searching for*. a track that would fit right into any peak time set, even by paris hilton. want from pixel82 is a punchy track with its scattered synth chords, jerky hats and a thick groove followed by *life is a gamble* where jesse futerman takes us on a soul inspired journey of deft sample manipulation

christoph el truentos debut album, what we used to know, is born of change and confusion, and sounds utterly incredible for it. the deeply talented 24-year-old new zealander started writing back in 2011 at the time his son was born. tired fatherhood, personal upheaval and artistic indecision would actually help show christoph a clear path towards completing the record – a transcendant sweep of synths, samples, organic instrumentation and window ledge field recording that gently reveals new layers of sonic texture and emotion to the listener.

this vinyl release brings together first class remixes taken from the singles, the future is yours and good for the city - which features sam duckworth of get cape wear cape fly fame. first up on the a-side from solomuns diynamic crew is adriatique. the duo were big fans of the future is yours, featured it on the diynamic podcast and got in touch with the kraakers to say they would be up for remixing the song. the result is deep house heaven and a summer terrace stalwart. next up is portuguese disco don moullinexs take which lays down a classic disco style and vibe in the mix.

in 2011 when mad mats and tooli went to sonar festival in barcelona they met ludovic llorca aka art of tones outside a club. little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12 inch together. the same thing ep opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with its strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there is also a dub version included on the b-side. last but not least, the great sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lots of samples perfectly balanced. all in all, classic art of tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

r-zone is a new label launched by global darkness. who is involved isn t exactly a secret, those who feel so inclined can piece the information together quite easily. it is however irrelevant to the concept of r-zone, which would like to shift the focus away from namedropping and perception based on hype around individual artists and bring it back where it belongs, in the lap of the music.

the last 12 inch in the invisible sunrise remix series and to say they have saved the best until last would be unfair on all the other amazing remixes but this really is a doozy. quiet village do what they do best - an exceedingly epic 13 minute tropical jungle chugger that transcends time and space to take you on a trip you are never going to forget. without a doubt one of the best things we have heard from qv in quite some time. on the flip the advisory circle provide what is perhaps the most beautiful remix - melodic, inventive and deeply lush. an anthemic come down for those moments when you need a big audio hug. simply gorgeous. lastly seahawks leave us with an unreleased mix of crystal beach which sounds like george benson tripping his nuts off on a beach in hawaii at 5am….languid jazz guitar, slo mo beats, the sound of the waves and some deep electronics ... what more could you want? seahawks at their finest and one more reason this is an essential purchase. swim on forever.

distorted reality is the 3rd installment in myles serges (ms) series. this time the mood is smooth and funky with all the ingredients that you would expect from myles. for and added treat kawl front man lee holman brings his own twist of flavor to the table

eerie returns... presumably with quite a few more ears attuned after the assured success of the vox attitude remix package. but its back to the script on this one, with three original brand new tracks of marco shuttles work. a very hypnotic, deep, athmospheric record as you would expect from the shuttle at his best.

dionne is a one of a kind rarity. osunlade pulls and draws from the lovely days of old, paying homage house music as it once was, when vocal edits were the vibe and pulse of an emerging sound. with traditional bata drums, filters that would put u in the mind of classic nick holder an just good ole fashioned groove on top of groove. the b-side is a ode to the bossa sound with a pulsating heart beat, funky melodies and smooth rhodes topped with a quirky yet fun vocal asking the question *what gets u high*? its music here that gets us high. we hope the same for u.

>simple setup< in fact, this fine tune could have the capability of becoming a true >summer hit< – unfortunately we will release it not until september 2013. but maybe you like its loose and uplifting atmosphere anyway. christopher rau must have produced this good-humoured work with a big smile in his face. >save the energy< attentive boys and girls surely realize that we made a misspelling on the label! so what! more unlucky would be if we release a bad track. but christopher turns out in an experienced way what he knows best: relaxed deep house with a melancholic touch.>athens< what a rumbling tune! one definitively should play >athens< on a good sound system to enjoy its profound sub bass. and dear djs, please dont underrate it just because we placed it on position b2. played at the right time this track can work on the floor as well as the other ones.

hidfr000 is a unique joint release by hidden tracks and freak recordings. for this special edition, dj hidden remixed two tracks by freak recordings artists dylan and cativo. doubled kicks and doubled snares make the virus remix an ultra violent, relentlessly dark rendition of dylans original and it has a breakdown bruce dickinson would approve of. the remix of evil has no boundaries has been destroying continents for some time now but never appeared on vinyl or anywhere for that matter. both tracks are now ready to fill record crates and hard drive space. just be careful of what you put near it - these remixes do bite.

every label has a >release of doom<, a 12 inch that was an incredible pain in the ass to put together and where everything imaginable went wrong. well this new trevino record was it! i wont go into details but this ep is too good to let bad karma prevail. >gone< has been a staple in my sets ever since i first heard it and >regnie< is possibly one of the best nighttime highway driving tracks (try it!). trevino, is he the best golfer in techno, or the most innovative techno producer on the golf circuit? fact is, im so happy this record finally sees the light of day and would be even happier if youd be into it too...
