from the very start, track one the first thirteen minutes of love opens the album with over ten minutes of ambient unlike anything you’ve heard in years, a long, elegiac composition somewhere between carl craig and the chill-out zone at a bygone rave. it’s a warning: take a deep breath before being swept away by eight tracks that span detroit and berlin, front 242 and carl craig, linking them via soaring trance, carefully-crafted minimal, the sound of the 90s, the sound of the new millennium. it’s hard to imagine the strike force and heart pangs it will inevitably inflict on any club in the know

cesar merveille first joined the cadenza team in 2009 with the outstanding ep. descarga, produced alongside fellow artist pablo cahn and garnering high critique from industry and public alike. a well known and much loved figure within candenzas vagabundos ensemble and equally the international club circuit, it is with great pleasure that cadenza welcome cesar for his debut solo release on the label. maayancholy is a beautiful and heart wrenching record, showcasing the delicate and fiercely musical palette of the french producer. introducing with shimmering open cymbals. light and airy they rustle simultaneously and offer diversity via their multiple manipulation. unsettled and sporadic, they splash throughout the remainder of the piece in an ethereal manner, casting light over delicate steinway piano keys and stabbing muted chord sequences. argentinean artist guti composed the aforementioned piano, his jazz and pianist training clearly used to full degree on maayancholy with simplistic singular key arrangements and piercing chord sequences. as the ascending chords rise, they dance magically alongside the pitter patter of percussive drums in a stripped back and raw demeanour. maayancholy effortlessly lays bare the emotive side of merveille through this ambient and surprising track. luciano picks up the remix duty for with a 16 minute interpretation. as condensed cymbals and piano chords are electronically warped, urgency prevails and groove sets in, securing lucianos twisted version as the perfect companion for the simplistic original. pace quickened and intensity sharpened, luciano demonstrates the clear dance floor attributes within . maayancholy in an electronic reinterpretation fit for the floor

a full length lp by ruins, an italian electro-wave duo. ruins formed in mestre in 1978 with the intention of experimenting with electronic devices and mixed media. they mainly created music out of self-expression without any intention of joining the mainstream. interested in multimedia, they had a strong visual aesthetic apparent via their album art, videos and projections. its where italo meets minimal wave. the -fire- videos are a must-see in order to grasp the full effect of the song, check out the first version here and rare second version here. the lp entitled -the art dance- features a collection of songs recorded between 1980-1984, some previously released, others never released before pressed on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a lovely hand-numbered glossy gatefold jacket lined with the bands history and photos, and accompanied by a lyrics insert sheet. tip!

the trio of moritz von oswald, max loderbauer (nsi / sun electric) and sasu ripatti (vladislav delay / luomo), with a third album, this time enriched and expanded by guitar contributions from paul st hilaire (also known as tikiman), and double bass courtesy of marc muellbauer (via ecm). horizontal structures is palpably a more open, more expressive album than the previous studio recording, vertical ascent. there is more contrast, more light and shade. st hilaire and muellbauer add fresh drama and swing to the intimate tonal and rhythmic interactions of the core grouping. the coherence of the five-piece is remarkable, the boundary between acoustic and electronic undone.

with five beat pharmacy albums and almost a dozen vinyl releases on francois ks deep space imprint, this dubby and eclectic project of brendon moeller needs no introduction.
chugging along at 120bpm, underpinned by a thick sub-dub bassline and a modulating maurizio-style synth cord arpeggio, pump is a hypnotic slap of deep smoky house with some memorable hooks to boot. swirling rhodes keyboards and a slick piano riff serve as a lovely counterpoint to the swinging funk of the hi-hat groove. forever morphing and evolving, the stready and unrelenting groove are guaranteed to keep heads bobbing and toes tapping!
the first remix here is by echospace head honcho, stephen hitchell under his intrusion guise. stripping away and re-contextualizing the key elements in the track, hitchell crafts a warehouse-style dj-tool that subtlely weaves its way into ones subconscious via a delightful psychedelic keyboard hook.
