christopher spero a.k.a glimpse has really made a name for himself the way that producers and djs in this day and age should: by making tasteful music of the highest caliber, and putting substance over style. these two tracks co-produced with frequent collaborator and head of the hypercolour label, alex jones, put that said taste on display in a refined and elegant form of house music.true friends pumps right from the beginning with a chunky rolling kick drum only made denser by the thick brushing percussion that surrounds it. before the beats become to overwhelming a soothing male vocals drifts in reminding how hard it is these days to find a true friend. a stark tune of epic proportions. returning with a similar pressure from drum programming aesthetic, which basically means hefty percussion layered over warm and tumbling drums. æcambria sets itself apart from the a-side with a more open-air vibe. light piano notes float along side softly played wind instruments, creating a surreal dreamlike audio experience that still has the tools to do damage on the dance floor. glimpse and alex jones have really put some true style, grace and class into their music. masters at creating a distinctive sound that exist in the space where warm and lush tones meet musicality and stimulation. a summer record with good vibes scrawled all over it.

alasdair roberts spoils album features alasdairs old hands from appendix out (tom crossley and gareth eggie) as well as free percussionist xtraordinaire alex nielson, noted baroque guitarist gordon ferries, emily maclaren, niko matti ahti (of finnish free pop duo kiila), and david mcguinness and alison mcgillivray (both of scotlands concerto caledonia), bringing a loose and lively mixture of drums, bass, piano, flute, glockenspiel, harpsichord, harmonium, viola, synthesizer, dulcimer, psaltery, hurdy gurdy, fiddle, and of course guitars and voices. spoils has a lot on deck, but its meted out evenly and with an intense energy, always in service of the songs, which are marked with some of alasdairs finest melodies. additionally, spoils ingratiates new compositions in a deeply personal manner with the world of traditional music that has sunk beyond the horizon for too many of us. it is a gift to these latter days that a man like roberts exists, to sing us back to our ancient home.

peter kruder is one of those emblematic names that lead a whole decade and inspire myriads of djs, producers and clubbers all over the world. while he enjoys unprecedented success with kruder & dorfmeister and crossed into the platinum range (selling 1 million copies of the k&d sessions album), he never lost track of the underground. probably his stellar career would never have happened exactly this way if there wasn’t the other kruder: the adventurous dj, the deep producer, the challenging a&r at g-stone, the producer behind dj hell’s highly acclaimed “teufelswerk” album. in 15 years peter kruder has done only 3 singles under his own name though. when you get your ears around “chordal” and “law of return” it becomes totally clear why this rare outing happens on macro. kruder meets his macro debut full on modernism - showcasing his deep, dark, dancefloor grounded side. with a crisp harmonic sequence reminiscent of tchaikovsky’s nutcracker suite, “chordal” hijacks brains on the dancefloor with its vacuum depth and sizzling details. “law of return” on the other side is a kruder signature take on deepness - solemn chords wrapped around a hypnotic groove give you tears of joy. a masterpiece!

long awaited new material from the detroit master andres on moodymanns >other< label. in true mahogani music style they decided to release the second of his two eps before the first. there has been a new andres album rumoured for a while now so we are thinking this is the second half of it. theres eleven tracks in total, with a few skits and interludes bridging the gap between classic detroit house jams and gospel style vocal tracks that kdj himself would be proud of. this one was well worth the wait!!

data drops 2 heavy new remixes of the massive holligans from man of the moment example who teams up with don diablo. wire is examples tour dj and is probaly best known for making killer drum & bass tunes here he drops a wicked dubstep mix that has had heavy support from radio 1 main players annie mac/zane lowe. club fuckers provide a good variation on this concentrating more on the vocals.

after successfully bringing back the boogie with the launch of their own imprint, boogie corporation are now back again to prove that they really are slaves to the boogie with this their second release on bc. inspired by strange android dreams and angelic visions of russian air hostesses on electronically powered scooters, aeroflot is equal part space and equal part boogie. meanwhile on the flip, git down is a slab of raw basement boogie, an experiment in time travel and is well heavy on the funk. last up, but by no means a slacker, is dirty rips which pays homage to the machine funk of the early electro sound while giving it a serious contemporary tweak. this track was previously re edited by dj legend greg wilson and released as hardcore boogie on redux, but this is the first time the original version has been released on vinyl. are you a slave to the boogie?

for over fifteen years, orphx has been exploring the grey areas between techno, industrial and electro-acoustic music. using an assortment of synthesizers, samplers, feedback systems, and various homemade instruments, orphx combines the dark, experimental aesthetics of early industrial music with the pulse of techno, electro and dub.

apendics.shuffle’s elegance & malice ep has been reworked by two great talent’s the master of minimalism thomas melchior & ransom note’s adultnapper, both artists have expressed there interpretations to the highest order. adultnapper has taken a darker path, raw & steady drums keep you grounded whilst disassembled voices and eary strings make you realize things are going to get weird. there is a constant hook in the background that sounds like the noise of a sleeping monster but as it gets louder you know it’s about to wake and it does, throwing you backwards in a totally different direction. melchior’s remix takes you on a different journey one that you never want to end. lush melodic sound’s and stunning percussion with deep soulful vocals keep growing and growing drawing you ever nearer all the time never letting you go.

vlad caia, a young romanian living in norway, with his wide range of influences are worn as true colours in his music. his demo was thrust into our hands by one of his fine colleagues, and now finally we can bring his debut platter for horizontal. as you will hear its a bright start for vlad at horizontal, he brings us two charming pieces of upfront house, chango with its cuban overtones and incessant groove calling all at the party. johnny frisco on the other hand has its own low deep funk flavor. both tracks nevertheless are proving to be a favourite of chefs such as tobi neumann, locodice, onur ozer, raresh, josh wink and of course dinky & matthew styles. we hope you enjoy as much as we do this summers release for horizontal!
