i have tried to recount this most peculiar of musical cases many times before but with each attempt some strange ailment has struck me dumb. i feel that if i put fingers to keyboard i might at least be able to help other revellers, less fortunate than myself to share my wicked fate...

after a lengthy hiatus, tuskegee music is back with a heavyweight release indeed: it features tracks written by detroit heavyweights seth troxler—under his young seth alias— and cult fxhe boss omar s. amazingly they were written 11 years ago and have been long forgotten until recently being unearthed. the first track here was inspired by a trip seth made to berlin’s club der visionaere in 2005. “it basically was me returning to detroit and telling omar about this crazy music i heard ricardo play during the day.” the result, ‘deep’(cdv 2006 mix), is a spine tingling atmospheric deep house track. the drums are lo-fi and loose, the bassline is a meandering thing that really sucks you in and soft, gentle toms tumble around the groove and encourage you to cut loose. then comes the experimental slow motion drum shuffle of ‘detroit after midnight’ which the pair made after “finding loads of weird records in his basement sampling them and making a classic mpc detroit cut.” it has the sounds of people talking as if coming from the room next door laid over a lazy and undulating bassline, and is brilliantly weird and sketchy. last of all, young seth goes solo on ‘luiza’s inferno’ five minutes of him jamming on omar’s ms20 with a warbling synth line coated in warm tape hiss and layers of dust. it’s a beatless piece that shows how inventive and ahead of his time troxler was even as a young man. this is a brilliantly unusual ep and another winner for seth troxler and the martinez brothers’ tuskegee label.

proving he knows how to work a dancefloor, rising star latmun makes his debut on hot creations with the mighty footsteps, featuring vocalist amy douglas. in equal measure, the b side piquant delivers another heavy hitter.
a certified tech house bomb, footsteps is full fire from of the off. new york based vocalist, amy douglas, brings extra heat, adding a distinct intensity in the build up. with a current track out on soul clap records and an upcoming ep with juan maclean as part of their peach melba project, amy is one to keep an eye on. one the flip piquant offers another peak time killer for the dancefloor.
latmun shot into the limelight in 2016 with 3 great of ep’s. his def ep on viva received support from heavyweights like skream, claptone, claude vonstroke, matthias tanzmann, steve lawler and many more. the following releases on wow! recordings and leftwing & kody’s lost records had similar success. in 2017 he released his biggest to date, the everybody’s dancin’ ep on relief.

by now, the world is familiar with the extensive works of monsieur dimitri from paris. his prowess as a globetrotting dj and taste-maker for over 20+ years, his reputation for the finer things in life, his sartorial style and of course most importantly his infamous remixes and disco edits. isn’t it odd that until now, there hasn’t been an official home for the man’s stellar reworks? it just doesn’t make any sense. this is exactly the reason that he has decided to set up this brand new venture - le edits records. naturally, a high standard of quality is present with all le edits releases across the board - from sourcing 100% virgin vinyl used for pressing to the mastering through tape, to the beautifully crafted and designed tip-on sleeves that were popular with record companies in the 1960’s and 1970’s, to the wonderfully imagined graphic design that adorns said sleeves - dimitri has overseen every aspect of this, his first label.

‘below the line’ inaugurates a fictional timeline of events set in a hypothetical future. a climate-related disaster acts as a catalyst for a complete overturn in society, the repercussions of which will be explored subsequently.
the british producer has become one of modern dance music’s most pioneering figures, having produced four full-length albums, various eps and contributed mix albums to renowned series such as dj kicks, fabric, and for berghain’s ostgut ton label over the last decade. donning the scb name in 2010, paul rose’s pseudonym for esoteric techno found home on labels like aus, nonplus and hotflush recordings, not to mention its own eponymous imprint.

deep house doesn t get deeper than deep explorer, dubbyman s evergreen label transmitting out of spain. on this latest 12inch, allstarr motomusic makes a welcome return after the first volume of beauty & simplicty back in 2015. this time they re working in collaboration with vocalist sarignia bonfa and the results are stunning. burning (in my soul) is a gorgeous, dubbed out slice of deep house with a true midwest flavour, while el sonido deepex takes things into even more sultry territory. there s also space for downtempo reflection on space of life, but also watch out for the deadly remix of the whole hood in my house- by cvo.

smashed atoms make a return after launching the magic circles label earlier in the year, bringing more of that sassy disco flavoured house music with a fondness for the good old way of doing things. the nods to rapture are hard to ignore on cut this way even if the ingredients are fresh, and there s no denying its the perfect formula for an addictive dancefloor cut with an old-skool hip hop monologue over the top. lost someone is a more sprightly affair that plays off bouncy synth lines and another discoid drum groove to create its infectious good time message.

for their 12th label anniversary, jazz & milk have decided to launch a new series called “twelve inch jams” in order to celebrate vinyl culture and the legendary 12&#8243,,, format! jams002 sounds the bell for the second round of the series including a 10 years re-issue of the classic sam irl cut “you don’t feel enough”. originally released as a b1 tune on his “african dance ep” debut on pulver records in 2007, this jazzy house gem found its way into the record bags of many influential djs over the years. from session victim, glenn astro, max graef to hodini… the record never disappeared in club sets but certainly from discogs a good while ago. so it was about time to give the tune a second life and finally press it on the format it deserves - a whole 12&#8243,,, side. the german production duo session victim are well-known fans of the track describing it as their secret weapon playing it in quite many dj sets for years, including their 2015 appearance for mixmag’s dj lab. hence, it is a great pleasure that session victim contributed a remix to the new release. their absolutely elegant and groove-driven version with a charming 90’s touch to it makes a brillant counterpart to the original with its jazzy piano-, drum- and double bass samples leading to an epic synth break that regularly causes ecstatic moments on the dancefloor.

french producer okain has long been entrenched in the minimal house movement, from time spent on four:twenty and tsuba through to memoria, no fit state and now shoring up on dogmatik. babylon is a sharply focused workout with playful organ trills darting in and out of the mix, while radio therapy gets into a light-headed, bubbly state of mind thanks to some shimmering synth work. permeable drops a little dubby magic on the track and r4r5r6 finishes the ep off with a more muscular groover for when you need to keep the energy up on the dancefloor.

limited to 300 copies! following his recent releases on tartelet records and oye, uffe kicks off the nos classics label with a record consisting of three mutated disco tracks that marks the start of his own new copenhagen-based label. run together with fellow tartelet affiliates vktr and jeppe wolmer (of vivian international) the first records a-side is a dubbed out percussive testament to the darkest and saddest times of uffe s life. a2 is a melodic and dreamy homage to one certain apartement located on the lijnbaangracht in the jordaan area in amsterdam. on the top floor of this worn down old house there was light to be found in these dark times. on the flip-side tings gets trippy. the title track finds uffe deeply intertwined in an occult-like bass-heavy ritual. an attempt to escape reality and cure the scandinavian misanthropy and the grey weather it comes with. a twelve minute voodoo disco tool perfectly crafted for a dancefloor which most probably does not exist.

shore is a vibraphonist and composer based in brooklyn. eamon harkin and justin carter from mister saturday night met him through nyc music institution, nublu, where he worked with the legendary jazz maestro butch morris and sex mob and tom waits drummer kenny wollesen. at the very first planetarium listening session, where eamon and justin blend records into live performances for people sprawled on the floor of a loft for six hours, one of justin s friends leaned over to him and asked, -what is this record? it s amazing.- it wasn t a record. it was shore, playing a hundred times in the corner of the room.

paris based label blocaus series is back with their third strike and comes with a selection of quality techno tracks bringing the sound to another level.
this time, blocaus resident absl takes the reigns over four powerful techno tracks. k ep is a variety of styles with broken beats, hypnotic background, drilling leads and distorted drumlines. also it includes two fantastic remixes from sunil sharpe and i hate models.

patrick weblin gives us this very special ep. 2 original tracks named after his 2 sons, so a lot of time and heart has gone into making this ep with a superb remix from iuly.b. “tadhg’s groove” give us solid house drums, percs and hats but its the pads and bassline that gives it the movement throughout the track, taking you to another level of space and conscious. iuly.b’s remix is down right tasty. it takes you on a little trip and makes you loose track of time all while grooving to this great remix. “ollie’s groove” is something a bit special, big 909 kick combined with 808 tops but this time some melodic synths add a very soulful and elegant sound.

the second ep of samuel rohrer’s range of regularity album presents two more striking reinterprations. these new remixes provide an intriguing parallax view of the original tracks, using the percussive eclecticism of the parent lp as a starting point from which to journey into sonically vibrant, feature-rich territories. the production specialists on hand for this project include burnt friedman and ricardo villalobos. villalobos, has already formed a strong working relationship with rohrer’s ambiq trio, lends his talents to both of the eps. (ror remixes i - amel-ep716). nonplace label boss friedman, as well, has carved out a unique space for himself within the electronic world, logging several decades’ worth of releases that with dub-wise production sensibility, skewed humor, and riots of tone color. though each individual remix has its own character, they are all united in their ability to provide a quick cure for fatigue with the common “loop”: though not improvised, they are strung together from fleeting phrases that evolve as if they are taking on a life independent of their creators. burnt friedman’s own dramatic interpretation of “microcosmoism” pairs up his consciousness of deep bass and analog inventiveness with rohrer’s continually transforming sound objects, making for a flowing and wordless narrative that simply dares listeners to stop paying attention. feeling more like a collaboration in “real time” than a remix proper, friedman brings his characteristic ‘mad scientist’ wit to the proceedings and delivers an energetic piece that simply glows in the dark. this is complemented nicely by villalobos’ remix of “microcosmoism”. it carries the energy level of the 1st ep over to a new disk, while heavily experimenting with feelings of emotional ambiguity. at some points aggressive and at other points merely curious, this mischievous collage of attitudes feels as inspired by the questing jazz of sun ra as it is by continental techno. contemplative keyboard runs, enthusiastic spring-like percussion and malfunctioning machine chatter all coalesce to make this a most fascinating piece of multi-purpose electronic music.

runemark records comes back with the seventh release and this time it s a perfection from dumming dum and rush midnight and their co-creation three pills into a fist including remixes from atapy, black mami and the first ever remix from ten walls. the original version from dumming dum sets a deep and groovy tone with acidic bass line and the wonderful rush midnight s creamy vocals on top. ten walls has made an official remix that grabs attention from the very start. it s ten-wall-ish bass line, orchestral and emotional breakdown construct dark and epic vibes. a beautiful trip through deepness and back to the dance floor is laid out in black mami s interpretation. and the last but not least remix in the release is a banger from atapy. dance-able as hell and the most energetic composition in the pack. dumming dum - three pills into a fist (feat. rush midnight) is available in vinyl and digital formats. enjoy the music!

dmt 013 is philippe petit s first and only techno attack for 2017. the record starts with lose yourself (part i) , an atmospheric track with a groovy rhythmic pattern that builds into a menacing acid trip. it continues with one life , using some very clear dubby pads, snare and toms, its underlying baseline bringing a happy feeling to the e.p. lose yourself (part ii) is aggressive and hypnotic at the same time, its intricate structure leading the listener to a state of trance. the record ends with distant memories , a prime time techno cut with several layers of synths to cover all sound frequencies to devastating effect.

following the release of the homemade waves ep in 2015, the room below returns to don t be afraid with his second ep for the label. the title healing scaphoids reflects on the period of time he spent constructing the tracks, during which he suffered two separate broken wrists whilst cycling around london. one right, one left. both time, the scaphoid bone! unfortunately, only one of the wrists healed properly and the ep retains a slightly broken feel, steering away from four-to-the-floor territory, and with london as a clear sonic influence. 2017 has been a productive year for henry keen aka the room below. as soundspecies, alongside brother olly, he released a collaborative album with afro-cuban percussion group ache meyi, performing live at the barbican in may to follow the previous year s appearance at the manana cuba festival in santiago de cuba.. henry also has a solo ep forthcoming on rising new york label maddjazz, due for release in mid september.

visionquest special edition returns this september with sakro s supersymmetry ep. edgardo alonso aka mexican producer and dj sakro has been rising up the ranks over the past few years with his raw, stripped-back approach to house seeing him release material with revered imprints in the field such as raum...musik, housewax, karlovak and fathers & sons. here we see the sakro joining the roster of visionquest offshoot special edition, the vinyl only imprint home to material from ricardo villalobos, craig richards, wareika and konrad black amongst others. up first on the package is lusyd , a shuffling percussion fuelled number featuring swinging snares, murky atmospheric pads and choppy sub bass hits at its core. jazz in mars follows embracing robust rhythms and an amalgamation of jazzy sample snippets alongside resonant synth swells to create a sturdy peak time workout. voices opens the b-side of the release with heavily swung drums, smooth ethereal chords and lumpy sub frequencies while a dark and brooding vocal ebbs and flows throughout the composition. title-cut supersymmetry then closes out the release with an energetic rhythmic drive, intricately modulating synth flutters and snaking pad lines.

following a big ep from richy ahmed, play it say it returns with a talented collaboration in the form of mark fanciulli and rob cockerton, with honey dijon on the remix. mark fanciulli has carved out his own sound that takes the best of house and techno, turning in his own infectious releases on the likes of joris voorn’s rejected, as well as the legendary planet e and intec. long time friend and collaborator rob cockerton joins fanciulli, who’s own credits lead to labels including suara and snatch!, and together the duo cook up a storm here. ‘slave to the rave’ is the fantastic opening cut and is a real party starter with an old school feel. acid stabs bring raw energy alongside chattery claps straight from chicago in the 80’s, whilst the whole production is bolstered by slick drum programming that won’t fail to work crowds into a frenzy. the excellent ’10 channels of bliss’ is equally massive, with robust kick drums down low and huge incendiary hi-hats up top. swaying claps and rolling bass all help lure you in and shape shifting synths bring all that important looseness and colour. next up, classic music company artist and new york tastemaker honey dijon steps up to remix ‘slave to the rave’. her version is dark and intense, with an unbridled sense of frantic raves bottled up in the train-track grooves and the cleverly filtered vocals, this is a powerful ep of high class, high impact dance music.

after moving from london to berlin cromby is back on tenderpark with his second ep for the vinyl label. the young man recreates our love for deep house with two sample-based tracks which showcase his ever advancing skills with the old school akai sampler mpc 2000 xl as well as his cool understanding of mixing haunting melodies with gripping groove patterns. the remix on the flip side comes from hip-hop super producer gone house lover hodini who has collaborated with the talented bass player chez kerim for this funky workout. the cover image shot by achim valbracht is the start of a new artwork series developed by tenderpark art director till sperrle which revolves around critique of investor-driven architechture that has been dominating berlin for several decades now. the speciously precious and glittering image displays a normalised and globally standardised kind of beauty but at the same time reveals a strong sense of loneliness. as always both the mastering and as well as the lacquer cut of this record have been carefully executed by vinyl sound mastermind helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

arthur russell epitomised the spirit that defined downtown nyc in the 70s and 80s. yet his inability to complete projects resulted in limited output. be with now present the reissue of event horizon, an album arthur did finish with his cult group the necessaries. criminally neglected for 35 years, its scarcity on vinyl has caused it to evade his most diehard fans and its relative obscurity has rendered it largely unknown, even amongst arthur acolytes.

the album’s title makes a direct and heartfelt reference to a real-life l.a. musician, long presumed dead, who resurfaced online in 2007 after 35 reclusive years to pen his autobiography and tragic life story in a series of blogs and youtube tirades. “his book and life resonated with me to such a degree,” pink states, “that i felt a need to dedicate my latest record to him.”
